In an all-hands meeting with employees today, Apple's future CEO John Ternus teased an "incredible road map ahead."

"I'm not exaggerating when I say this is the most exciting time to be building products and services at Apple in my entire career," said Ternus. While the meeting was private, Ternus' comments were reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Appearing alongside Apple's current CEO Tim Cook at the Steve Jobs Theater, Ternus expressed optimism about artificial intelligence in particular.

"AI is going to create almost unlimited potential," said Ternus. "We're going to be able to keep unlocking possibilities that are going to create entirely new opportunities for our products and services, and I'm so excited about what that's going to mean for our users." Unsurprisingly, he did not provide any specific details at this time.

"We are about to change the world once again," he said.

Ternus ensured that design remains "core" to Apple, and he promised that the company is still committed to user privacy and environmental responsibility.

As for Cook, he told employees he is "healthy" and plans to serve as Apple's executive chairman for "a long time." Apple said Cook will "assist with certain aspects of the company, including engaging with policymakers around the world."

Ternus will become Apple's CEO on September 1.

so Gurman got fed by Apple ...
and while Ternus "sounds" like a CEO, what he is quoted here is as meaningful as when Cook was quoted saying almost the same thing ...
The key is, he needs and deserves the time to actually show "stuff" of ...

Ternus is sounding more like a CEO with every passing moment.
If Tim Cook made this exact "incredible road map ahead" comment, some forum users here would be rolling their eyes. I guess that's the benefit of an unestablished track record in the CEO role for Ternus. There is more hype for now since we don't know exactly what will come or change under his leadership.

Nah. We are at the point where those most exciting years predate him even being born, though yes, the passage of time is inevitable, and is of course a factor.

This is a typical statement, but in this case I really do think it's different in 2026: this is not the passing of a torch, it's a capitulation. Call me cynical, but I do not expect things to get better. The innovation of thought no longer lives in Silicon Valley.

If Tim Cook made this exact "incredible road map ahead" comment...
Tim Cook did say something similar earlier this year

"As I said at the beginning of my remarks, this was, in so many ways, a remarkable quarter for Apple, and we're excited for all the opportunities we'll have in the year ahead to deliver innovations that have never been seen before and enrich the lives of users every step of the way," said Cook, on an earnings call on Thursday.

I know that a lot of folks are down on AI but it really is having a huge impact on how I use personal computing devices on a daily basis. Being able to use natural language and actually being understood has been game changing. For Ternus to state upfront and early on feels that he understands that this is the direction that Apple needs to take.

Tim Cook has been an exceptional CEO in terms of the shareholder value that he has returned, so I'm not going to bash him for that. However, with advent of LLMs, personal computing is undergoing a transition that is at least as big as the internet. Let's hope Ternus is the guy the the job.

I think September/October is going to be a ton of product announcements all around AI and home automation. We have heard about new AppleTV, new HomePod with a screen, iPad with a robot arm, security cameras, smart doorbells, AI pendants, etc. Some of that has to start shipping once Gemini Siri gets re-announced. There is zero chance Cook bowed out only to have Ternus get on stage and have nothing to announce but the iPhone now comes in red (sorta). You just don't set the next guy up for failure like that. So it better be an awesome autumn.
