Can't wait to see that redesign of the Mac mini....I was so hyped when Apple announced the Macbook Pro redesign and the redesign didn't disappoint, although the notch is still quite odd....maybe there will be a similar gimmick with the Mac mini redesign?

My guess of order

Monday: iMac with Magic USB-C peripherals

Tuesday: MacBooks

Wednesday: Mac Mini.
Monday: Apple Intelligence / iOS 18.1 plus other OS updates
Tuesday: MacBook Pros
Wednesday: iMac plus USB-C peripherals
Thursday: Mac mini (the mini is always last) + quarterly earnings

Sorry, but this is just stupid 😁 Problem is that you need an additional device, isn't it?

Heavy and I'm hoping for a redesigned keyboard. I really don't like the feel of it.
Getting a keyboard with touch ID or some other device would be needed for face ID. So another device is already needed. Already have a watch.

No, they’ll do both at the same time. They’re not going to swap an OLED display in to a new chassis just one year in and there is absolutely zero reason to change the chassis at this point. The new chassis will be built only to house the new OLED display. This Is The Way.
This is pure speculation.

What? You come up with very strange arguments. TouchID is built in on MBP, MBA keyboards and it's on iMac keyboard that is in the box. You do not need to buy anything additional.

I'm using a 16inch M2 Max daily as a creative professional and really wondering if the upgrade to the M4 Max will be worth it...

So, the M3 Max is 32.7% faster than the M2 Max at Xcode. The M4 Max will likely bump that by another ~20%, assuming its core config stays the same. So that’s about 59% likely improvement.

Of course, you don’t run Xcode. But generally speaking, 1) the M3 Max was a big boost in part because it changed the core configuration from 8p4e to 12p4e, and 2) the M4’s design is the first big jump compared to the M1.

So, it’s not a definite no. Whether that’s worth it to you individually, we can’t answer.

Several Win11 Arm workloads plus possibly some C++ remote development for Linux via VS. It’s going to need plenty of RAM and all the processors. Looking at you, M4 Max MBP 16. The hardest choice will be the colour. It’s going to make my maxed out (and worn out) Intel 2019 MBP 16 look and feel pretty sad.

I wonder if the decision to not do an event is because of the Russian unboxing videos? Stole their thunder, decided to do a soft launch instead?

Doubtful, that whole thing was so inside baseball. Only the terminally online world of Mac/tech obsessives know about it. To the rest of the world (i.e., the real world) those videos were never seen, and Apple knows that.

Face ID on Mac?
That sort of upgrade would be reserved for an event. With just press announcements, I think it’s safe to say most we’re getting is spec bumps: M4 chips, 16GB RAM base models for Apple Intellegence compatibility and USB-C accessories. I’ll be very surprised if we get any design changes.

Apple can and most likely will us AI to cut off many macs that are just a few years old. Maybe they can say 12gb is the minimum spec needed for AI. In any case, they have the chance to give very little in terms or hardware speeds and mostly make it a system requirement thing if you want some Mac OS goodies. The higher benchmarks will come from the higher ram in the system and maybe they might put a fast HD in them too. But if all the AI was available to the lowest end M1 macs, there would be little reason to upgrade. Thats why they will cut them off from getting the same software the new systems get. I will be surprised if they don't go in this direction.
Everything Apple has stated so far has said that any M-Series Mac will run Apple Intelligence. Including info on their main website. Pretty sure they are going to stick with 8gb as the minimum spec needed for AI. Will 12gb, or 16gb run it better? Sure, but that is to be expected.
