It should be re-named to Steve. In honor of Jobs. It's more fitting to Apple.
Steve is too common a name and would have to be conjoined with another word to avoid inadvertently triggering the virtual assistant. SJ might work though. Not that it or any other prompt is going to get me to start speaking to my phone or any other device.

They'll need to get the post keynote "hands on" session right.

This time round, they have to be able to properly demo hands-on what they "show". They'll have to do beyond "staged demos".
Agreed. I don’t think they will be given the benefit of the doubt as easily as they would have in the past.

Seriously, I'm calling all of you out. You're stuck in your own little mental walled gardens, and the lot of you are getting very close to being like that high school or college friend who was always dour and pessimistic, maybe even worse than E'ore the donkey. At least E'ore had a reason; none of us would like to have a cardboard tail stuck to our rump by a thumbtack!

There was only ONE post up 'till mine that expressed anything close to optimism.

Well, I'm here to say that I'm optimistic about Apple, and yes, I'm optimistic about a real makeover for Siri. And yes, I am looking forward to WWDC. I won't be able to watch it live, just because I have some real-life responsibilities to attend to on that day. But my God, I'm looking forward to it, and you should be too.

The last 5 times I was at ANY Apple store, I saw customers lining up all the way toward the front door. And a couple of those times, I was one of those customers, waiting patiently for my turn, and having fun conversations with others in line.

I've never gotten support like I have from Apple.

I've never had a smoothly-working tablet AND PENCIL combination like I have from Apple.

I've never had a QUIET laptop like I have from Apple.

I've never had a reliable phone like all the ones I've had from Apple.

I've never had watches last as many years or do as many amazing things as I've had from Apple.

I'm even impressed with the earbuds. They only go bad when one falls into the pool, lol!

Or, you know.
They present a series of updates that have some things that we care about and other things that we don’t, and the forums light up with complaints no matter what, while the regular consumers could care less and just continue buying iPhones.
You know, like the last… 20 years… Of WWDC.

+----This guy has it right. Apple will continue. Millions of people own AAPL stock in their investment portfolios, its price hit a new all-time high last Friday, and today it's only 2.3% off that high. An awful lot of you sure do make a sport of talking smack like Apple failed without ever being a leader, and is a company who hasn't done anything right in the last 20 years!

The CEO changeover may turn out to be a good thing. You can love it or hate it right now, but you didn't like Tim Cook either, so there's that. And it's a fact of life that EVERY company eventually gets a new CEO, at least until the company stops being a company. And well, that hasn't happened yet.

Pro Tip: New CEOs often presage a whole new era of success for a company. That's not a guarantee, of course. But this is something to be optimistic about.

The folding iPhone may have issues when it does come out, but Apple's not going to just let it fall flat. People will buy it, and people will enjoy it.

Look at all the hard things Apple has done just in the last 5 years. Constant camera improvements, even to the point that the phone in my pocket is almost a better camera than the big and heavy DSLR in my camera bag. Tighter operation between the Apple Pencil and the iPad. And tighter operation between the Apple Watch (and the Ultra) and your ungrateful wrist.

Apple, TSMC, and ARM made the world sit up and take notice with the Apple-designed M processors and an overhauled OS that could use them, doing what even Intel couldn't do with performance and efficiency cores, while also providing backward compatibility with older code.

Those things, and much more, all served to breathe life into not just Apple, but the entire computing industry, and even every corner of modern life.

I'm optimistic and I'm looking forward to hearing what Apple has on tap for the rest of 2026. And I think you should be optimistic too.

Seriously, only one optimistic post. This one from me makes TWO.

One parting thought: If the marketplace was so horribly bad for Apple, then we would all be on Android by now, and MacRumors wouldn't even exist.

Have a good week, and we'll see what the big thing is next Monday.

It's more likely that we'll be underwhelmed by the demo/presentation, especially in light of Apple's previous overselling of the unready platform. "You're launching it wrong..."

iPhone 13 entering siringbal lock... LTE signal almost 0, wifi ? ... NO WIFI !! We're loosing reception fast.... disengaging Siri, entering manual mode... Cupertino we have a problem... we are venting some sort of fart it's coming from the vapour chamber.... it's farting everywhere in space, intoxicating the droids... fart fart fart.... we're not going to the smart assistants planet anymore.

ewww chatgpt. already picked the loser. too late to switch to claude?
We'll see. The big players are perpetually trying to out-do each other with their flagships. I don't particularly love OpenAI, but they've made some good improvements. Of course everyone's assuming the tokens are 'endless' while for real work, people are more likely to strategically use the right model (and cost) for the job.

For general coding, I've been moving a lot to self-hosted QwenCoder-Next personally, but people are gonna do whatever works for them. And of course for Siri, well - almost anything will/should be an improvement, really.

I bet the mood for the teams involved in the presentation is significantly different from pervious years...

In previous years, they would typically be focusing on showcasing their upcoming products from the position of a virtually unblemished brand. The pressure is to ensure the presentation goes well, but it's always easy to present impressive results. Today, I think they are — for the first time in many years — on the back foot, having to reassure both consumers and investors that they are still 'with it' and haven't completely lost the plot.

This pressure is obviously due to the whole Apple Intelligence fiasco, but I would say there is an additional layer of pressure. Not only do they have to showcase a Siri which reliably aligns with modern users' expectations, but consumers and investors alike look to see how Apple strikes a balance of using AI within it's current strengths, being mindful of privacy and security, and not shoving it in the faces of those who want nothing to do with it. That will not be an easy balance to strike.
  • Previous pre-WWDC moods: Pressure to maintain the brand, peppered with excitement and pride as teams showcase their work.
  • This year's pre-WWDC moods: Everyone is watching... Apple is not as untouchable as many previously thought, and the teams behind the presentation know that...
The pressure is undoubtedly on.

(I'm a corp comms specialist -- this is what I do for a living)
Would be great if they just did a live presentation with actual emotion involved instead of the lifeless, generic pre-recorded presentations that happen now.

To be fair, Apple has never cared about Ai. They said it themselves. With Final Cut Pro, with pixlalmator. They have said, we don't believe in adding Ai features.
„It’s packed with powerful AI features that build on Apple Intelligence“.

Second sentence on the page. They began to believe when they could put paywall it behind a subscription.

„All systems glow“ and that logo obviously allude to Siri. A voice assistant that was (gasp) almost market-leading when introduced 15 years ago. And Apple has, from public perception, been failing to meaningfully improve ever since. Even going on the big stage in 2024 to proudly demonstrate vapourware as their main feature, against the backdrop of a public frenzy about AI.

So yeah. I definitely get why commentators are apprehensive and somewhat cynical.

You're looking at this the wrong way, I think. Pretty much everyone here is - from a helicopter point of view - happy with Apple and its devices. There will always be a few who hang around an Apple forum whilst hating Apple and not owning Apple hardware.

It's just that some people have personal issues, like not liking Liquid Glass, or real life issues, like not being able to get any work done because of Tahoe's rounded corners. In the end, every window resize is a struggle because of them corners. The struggle is real. 😉 /s

I think it's just that comments and remarks more often than not come across as negative. It's hard to say you don't like Liquid Glass without sounding negative. In the end, it is a negative thing and people can be passionate about things.

I suppose one could always say "OMG I really love Liquid Glass, I just wish it didn't exist - yay!"

Hopefully, Siri actually works...somewhat.

Current version of Siri is pretty much useless. Has been since it was first released.
