Do we need more powerful? Or do we rather need more battery life? Lighter devices without affecting the said battery life? Better and more durable devices?

If only they could make a device the size of the 12" retina macbook that'd somehow have a fold-open display that'd be closer to 15-16" than that tiny peephole while still being small and light enough to carry around without sacrificing the battery life or the keyboard/touchpad quality. So basically everything my 16" MBProM3Pro is, but in a smaller form factor.

Yes, I know it's not realistic but *that* is what I want. The current device is easily powerful enough as it is. Sure, it could be more powerful when using the efficiency cores as (if you couldn't guess already) "two-day battery life" is a requirement for me. And that means, that the device will last me the full work day no matter what I do with it without me having to carry around an extra battery. Their current devices advertising "all day battery" die on me around 4pm latest. This one usually survives ok, but I'm not willing to sacrifice a minute of the battery life on this beast.

...but I know the M5 series isn't for me. It's for those who need to have the newest model no matter the cost. I will probably upgrade this when M7 comes out. Or maybe not.

I'd say that the M5 is for those who have older MacBooks/Pros who are ready to upgrade. People with the M4 are not likely to be in need of any upgrades for a while.

Apple only makes major design a structure changes to its Macs every few years. We are about 4 years into the current MBP design which was built to maximize functionality and performance while being a little heavier and bulkier than the previous models. The rumors are that the next design generation is coming in a year or so and may slim the cases down a little which would probably reduce the weight a little, too. They would probably retain the current battery life. The screens are expected to switch to OLED and probably be tandem layered to offset burn-in. A more radical, foldable screen Mac isn't in any near term rumors so I wouldn't hold my breath for that, though. Maybe when this next design has matured and they are preparing the next next design, we could see something like that. Hard to know at this point.
