The one thing that frustrates me about the M4 MacBook Pro range, based on all the YouTube reviews I’ve watched which seem pretty much unanimous in their conclusions, is that despite having lower performance the basic M4 model has higher fan noise under load vs the M4 Pro version because the latter has a dual fan cooling system so the fans can spin at lower speeds vs the single fan in the non-Pro version.

I really value a quiet working environment so for me the interest in paying a premium to go with M4 Pro vs non-Pro M4 is not only for that extra performance (that I accept I probably don’t need) but also for the quieter fans. I’d love it if Apple went to a dual fan cooling setup across all of its MacBook Pro M5 range.

wait...I was told M chips are dead quite and users hardly ever hear them turning on

Cosmic orange MacBook Pro !

Cmon. Let the colours of Apple in the late 90s bloom again.

I know it will just be tasteful muted metallic colours as always.

But I can dream.
Would love to see colors. An orange colored one will be fun. I would buy one. Apple could have at least one fun color for each Pro device. Hopefully that will happen some day.

Wait, "something powerful".
Power... Book...?
There's the Roman numeral V in the image too.

PowerBook G5 confirmed?

Be interesting to know what the investment to profit ratio is for Apple doing yearly vs a 2 year upgrade cycles as they rarely introduce more than a minor speed bump… Nearly bought an MBP last time but got a $600NZD cash back deal on a 13” M3 MBA midnight 512gb shortly after release. Apple still make the best laptops.

Weird teaser headline considering we are only expecting the base M5 model to release, which is expected to be weaker than the M4 Pro even.

When the brains beneath the surface change, it's not the same computer. We could be about to step into a paradigm shift in mobile computing with the M5.
Most likely not. The only ones who would notice a difference between M4 and M5 are those who should go for a Pro or Max chip anyway.

I mean, it's not a bad thing to get the M5, it's just extremely "incremental".

Imagine everyone's face when the base M chip becomes the new Pro chip.

The Pro/Max chips being for ultra-level users only.

What is incorrect? No one expects anyting else than a base M5 and of course the base M5 will be less performant than the M4 Pro (maybe apart from single core performance).

First off, comparing the base chip vs a Pro chip is not a fair comparison.

second The M5 is already a 10% boost in CPU based on the M5 iPP benchmarks.

A 3.93% difference in single core and 33.33% on multicore.

Based on the M5 iPad Pro leaks, the numbers would be closer.

If they only teased the MacBook Pro, I predict that Apple will announce a new product each Wednesday for the rest of the month. So MacBook Pro this week, Vision Pro next week and iPad Pro the final week.
I second this, especially because there was nothing on Tuesday.
Apple usually announces products at 10am Pacific so we'll see what we get today!

Well, I was wrong about that. I prefer a simultaneous announcement like they did it today. I just was thrown off by the way they teased it yesterday. Very cool that the base iPad Pro now has 12GB RAM.

Wow. The same computer with a new chip. How thrilling.
So, when they have improved chips, they should just not bother putting them into computers? Is that what you want?

These are spec bumps and there is a long tradition of spec bump improvements every year or so to keep the machines competitive and provide the best performance for someone who buys the machine today rather than them getting older tech for no good reason.
