The one thing that frustrates me about the M4 MacBook Pro range, based on all the YouTube reviews I’ve watched which seem pretty much unanimous in their conclusions, is that despite having lower performance the basic M4 model has higher fan noise under load vs the M4 Pro version because the latter has a dual fan cooling system so the fans can spin at lower speeds vs the single fan in the non-Pro version.

I really value a quiet working environment so for me the interest in paying a premium to go with M4 Pro vs non-Pro M4 is not only for that extra performance (that I accept I probably don’t need) but also for the quieter fans. I’d love it if Apple went to a dual fan cooling setup across all of its MacBook Pro M5 range.

Cosmic orange MacBook Pro !

Cmon. Let the colours of Apple in the late 90s bloom again.

I know it will just be tasteful muted metallic colours as always.

But I can dream.
Hahaha. You know what, that would make me tempted to sell my m2 macbook air. An orange macbook pro would be epic.

If rumors are true then no point upgrading until next year with thinner OLED design unless absolutely necessary
Coming from M2 MBP and 96 GB RAM I have no need to upgrade, but if I did have a need it would not be to get "thinner OLED design." I might upgrade to get nano-texture display and the improved brightness, but thin means nothing to me.

I'll be waiting for the M6 Air or maybe Pro. Bigger changes expected and the timing wlll be about right for me to upgrade.

Why bother releasing a base M5 without the Pro and MAX. Between not releasing am M4 Ultra and releasing a M5 without a Pro or Ultra it makes it seem like they are stuck at the M4 Max.

At what? You're dusting the M1 Pro in single and multicore. M1 Pro has a HW video encoder on it. Memory bandwidth is comparable. M1 Pro has a little more graphics oomph but it's not huge. What could be slower?
Batch generating 1:1 previews in Lightroom takes twice as long on my M4 iMac compared to my M1 Pro MBP, despite having twice the RAM. Maybe there is some other explanation going on, but this is consistent and repeatable. This process takes near 100% of all CPU cores.
For example
135 vs 65 seconds for 76 pics
55 vs 28 seconds for 30 pics
68 vs 30 seconds for 36 pics
These are 45 mp raw files

Could be as simple as which chips they have in bigger supply. They make the M5 for the iPad pro as well. They may now have an increasing supply of M5 chips and less of the M4. Since the rest of the MacBook pro design seems the same it's just an easy chip swap. Then they'll wait for the M6 a year later for the _real_ upgrade.

True but the all time best application for the touch bar was this, hands down:
Sad, but true. The TouchBar was a great idea, but so poorly implemented. Should never have replaced the function row and it should have had at least the same height as the key row in front of it. Apple should have created a better system for developers to integrate. Apple couldn't even be bothered to properly implement TouchBar support in their own apps.

If people talk about M5's, I'm thinking of this:

Back when cars were stylish.

Apple fans aren't easy to cool down or keep quiet, especially when there's an event or press release coming.

My bet is that this is the re-birth of the "12-inch" MacBook, this time with a 13-inch, or 13.3-inch display like the M1 MacBook Air (the size of the display of M2 MacBook Airs and onwards is 13.6-inches), with the new M5 SoC.
