Strange, I just purchased it on my UK account.

Anything funky going on?

I've got 35448 songs in total - I hear matched and iTunes purchases don't count towards this, only what you upload.

Can I make sure this is 100% the case? If so, I may plump for it in the morning when all has settled down...

i'm still confused on whether or not i should get this.

it says it will play the higher bit-rate version, is it possible to download that higher bitrate and keep it on your computer (for instance if you don't have an internet connection)

i don't have many songs (~500) and only have an iPhone so the only reason i would do this would be for the higher quality songs.

Yes. What I did was let iTunes match finish. Created a smart playlist with iCloud status of matched and bit rate < 256. Added a comment to all of them so I could sort by that. Selected all those songs and deleted them from iTunes. They will still appear in your library, and will still be selected. Right click and select download.... iTunes will begin pulling them down three at a time.

That is the case...

anyone know what 'check back later' means... is it ' check in a week or two' or 'just retry until you're in?'

Ah good, its just I've seen some reputable Mac sites suggesting splitting the library in two (Macworld), and thought; surely not?!!

I hope it all turns out to be good value. What I've seen so far of iCloud is disappointing at best...

When I click the iTunes Match tab and then click on the "Subscribe for £21.99" button, I get the message that new subscriptions are not available right now and to check back later.

That's what I was expecting, except it went through.

Nope, it's just finished gathering information and is now matching my music with the iTunes store. It got to 3000 of 5000 really fast but now it's chugging along. Will probably go to bed and check on it in the morning now.

But since iTunes Match doesn't back up your TV shows or movies, you'll still lose those if your HD crashes, and if it wasn't originally purchased from iTunes you'll need to back up your library yourself.

Here's a question I have: say I subscribe for a year and my library is matched and upgrade to the iTunes versions of songs...when my subscription lapses will I still be able to use iTunes in the Cloud to download those songs that were already matched when I was subscribed?

Yes. I added a computer to iTunes Match pulled my entire library down to it and unjoined it. All the music plays just fine.

I'm relieved that I was able to grab a subscription this morning before they stopped accepting (Canada). The upload is exceedingly slow at this point though. Only about 1000 songs to upload and it's 2/3 done.

I'm guessing the last bit will take the rest of the night to upload.

One thing to note: I hope no one is expecting the uploads to go as fast as downloads. I think most ISPs place a severe cap on upload speeds. Mine does anyway.

Two completely different services.

With Spotify or rdio, you have access to unlimited (streaming) music for as long as you continue to pay the monthly fee, stop paying and you no longer have access to that music.

iTunes Match ($24.99 a year) will upgrade your personal collection (if its matched) and back-up your entire library. So if your Hard Drive were to fail or you were to purchase a new machine, you will easily and quickly be able to get your music back (rather than have to re-import your entire cd collection). As a plus of DRM-Free, once iTunes Match matches your music and you upgrade to the iTunes version, you can keep those tracks and not have to re-new your subscription next year.

Since last night my iTunes has been hanging on Step 2 as well.

I've seen Spotify mentioned before as an "alternative", but I also don't understand the comparisons. Two entirely different services.

Spotify is like satellite radio or old FM radio. You listen but you don't own anything. Ans Spotify can add or delete songs at will - one day they might have Pink Floyd for example, and the next day it's pulled.

iTunes Match is like owning a car. But they also do a tune up for you for the $25 service change, but in the end it's still your car (that's assuming you take it out of Apple's shop before your subscription ends - if you don't, they might repossess it).

I missed one word in your sentence "matched" iTunes match doesn't count purchased songs against the 25,000 limit.

Right, so anything I have purchased won't matter, and neither will anything that matches correctly… right?

So even though I've got nearly 35500 songs, I can still use iTunes Match?

I just tried…

Looks like I can't.

Damnit. Why is the limit 25k? That sucks…

The Post Steve Jobs Era of Apple Begins...

I'm terrified that this is the Apple we will gradually see more of as Steve Jobs is not there to chew some asses and ******* the people responsible for these screw ups. Apple is now governed by committee with Tim Cook acting merely as the mediator. The Steve Jobs era of Apple was a dictatorship where the All Mighty Steve made sure **** was done right or heads would roll (completely the frak off)!

I must have been lucky. It matched around 1,700 songs. And uploaded maybe some 300-400 songs. It didn't pass the hour and a half mark.

This is just so damn stupid. What sounds like a great product cannot be used by me because according to Apple, I shouldn't be so interested in music. I have so many songs because I absolutely love music. I don't see why I should be punished like this.

I've spent about £8500 on iTunes over the past 6 years (call me stupid if you want) and then this in return?

Matched songs _do_ count. Only purchases at the iTunes store don't count.

Yes as I just found out… and I'm not going to delete 10,000 songs just to get iTunes match!

Wake me up when they push the limit to 50,000…

EDIT: Looks like I have got 26855 songs which are not iTunes purchases...

The £8500 that you have spent on music in iTunes won't be counted towards your 25K limit.

Edit: Sorry I didn't notice your previous post where you acknowledged the above fact.

Yes, but only if the higher rate version is available on the iTunes store. I.E. if when matching, a version of a song on your drive is found in the iTunes store at a higher bit rate, you can use match to switch out to Apple's version. Once done, you have a shiny new high bit rate DRM free file to replace your existing one.

interesting.. i will buy this then.

Not for me

Damn I am about 60,000 songs over the limit and growing. Come on :apple: sort the limit out so us big users of iTunes can be included as well!

Quick question, what happens if I rip another CD after "Match" has finished it's original scan on signing up? Is what is matched on first run what you get for 12 months, or can you add to your Library as normal and those tracks are matched also?

You can update the existing Match DB. Store> Update iTunes Match...or just right click on the songs and select Add to iCloud
