noooooooooooooo pen pleaaaaaseeeeee  pen's are so outdated.

Think outside the box. I always see pens/stylus's hanging up in nearly every shop that sells an iPad. Even Apple has one in their shop.

Think of what can be done more precise with a pen than a fat finger? Maybe I just need to stick my finger in a pencil shapener?

Hell, if you don't like it, then don't use it. Just leave it in the device and keep using your finger on a iPad/Possible Phablet

The first three were in the spring, then they moved to a Fall release with the iPad 4 -Oct 2012(Source - MacRumors buyers guide and my own purchase history)

They obviously have moved it to a fall release schedule to it can release in the same time frame as other iOS devices- iPhone and iPods.

Weird. Then why does the buying guide also have an iPad listed as being released in March 2012? The iPad 4 was a minor update, bringing the 128GB option and just a minimal spec bump.

Oh, don't misconstrue my post. I still think Android is the better platform for those of us that like to tinker and customize. For useability, IMO, they're both on the same level now.

But after using my S4, Note 2, or OG for a few days, coming back to my iPhone 5 drives me insane. Some of it is the "walled garden" where I feel restricted, but mostly it's just that TINY screen.

And don't get me wrong...I have no desire for a 6-inch screen. The Note 2 is absolutely the largest I'd ever go in terms of device size and even it feels too big from time to time. For me, 4.7"-5" is the sweet spot. So I'd welcome a 4.8" iPhone with open arms. :D

Thats not true. The workflow for android is overly complicated in my opinion. I takes way too many clicks through a number of screens to get stuff done honestly. Secondly, its not secure and thirdly its slower by default no matter how much hardware they throw at it.

The people with phablets all were basically trying to avoid an actual tablet only to fail and later end up with an tablet anyway. I think the best near term solution is to add phone calling capabilities to the tablets with cellular capabilities.

Nope. You're not going to say that without proof. Bring examples or pipe down.

Examples of the overly complicated workflow?

Too many clicks to do what? Again, examples?

Not secure, huh? It's been approved for use by the Department of Defense...just like the iPhone. Try again.

Slower by default...how? Benchmarks? Actual use? Again, stop spewing Apple propaganda and bring facts.

I'm tired of people around here just regurgitating the same old tired arguments and acting like it's fact. I'm not listening to that crap anymore. Stop being a mouthpiece for Apple and think for yourself for once.

I own a Galaxy s3.

Good for you. Then you're qualified to give some examples.

For example closing out an application is not simple at all. I have to navigate through a number of screens to turn off running applications.

Security: https://www.google.com/search?q=fbi+android+phone+not+secure&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&client=safari 718k high risk android apps.

I'll add two more issues...there is no support. The updates are slow to market when google makes their updates...rushing to add beta software onto devices that isnt vetted properly... The list goes on...

Um, hit the multitasking button and tap clear all or the trash can. Or just hit the back button until you exit the app. Two taps, max.

I'll have to read the security link later as I'm headed to bed. But I will read it.

Buy a Nexus. Problem solved. Or do what I do...root and flash. Easy.

And beta software? Really? Ever heard of Siri? Apple Maps?

I like the 4 inch phone because I can type with ONE hand.
You have no idea how useful this is........

if they can find a way to increase the screen size, but doesn't compromise 1 hand typing, I'll definitely support it.

BTW
I have a galaxy s4, I love the screen size, it's amazing for movie viewing (I prefer this over iPhone 5), but not typing
It's hard to type on this.

LOL. Do you have baby hands?

What about the small girls with small hands ? What should they do ? I understand there are giant people here with big hands but there are also smaller people, especially women.
What's the solution here ? If Apple insists having only one size ?

Easy - buy the 'C' range. Why couldn't they have two form factors?

The easy solution is an iPad mini mini with Phone app.

In my opinion 3.5" is a great size. When I look at it right now it looks fine to me haha.

Anyway I asked my girlfriend to one hand text on her GS3 she had no issues whatsoever and her hands are much smaller than mine.

I guess a larger screen wouldn't be so bad and extra screen real estate is always nice. (I still think her phone looks absolutely ridiculous though, especially when she's on a call).

I'm sorry, but one thing that is generally recognised and accepted by fans of both parties is that Android offers much better shortcutting. Hell, people Jailbreak purely for this functionality. You do not own an S3, and if you do, you're overlooking its potential.

Apple are replicating a dumbed-down version of the Android power control widget in iOS7. This is coming so late that many Android users don't even use that power widget - Nova launcher and the notification bar toggles offer far more.

Coincidentally I'm using a GS3 i9300 and have been since last September. I'm moving back to iOS for one simple reason: it's so damn consistent. Something I'm finding Android lacks.

I 'prefer' Android OS (stock), in that it's incredibly intuitive if you put the time into setting up your perfect environment. But it takes time, it's only about 97% consistent, and custom ROMs are a PITA to keep up to date. Android offers more - granted mostly little things, but lots of them - but you get things like the launcher process being killed, so clicking the home button causes what is essentially your desktop to restart, you get poor battery life when something gets stuck trying to sync. It's tit for tat, you could say.

I'll be keeping my S3 when I get the next iPhone...I'd like to keep up-to-date with custom ROMs and enjoy using both. I'm in the UK, so don't have any contracts to worry about. If I was going to bind myself to any contract, you can bet your bottom dollar it would not be with a non-Nexus Android device.

Personal opinion: If you're a geek who loves tech; get yourself a Nexus. If you're a regular guy/girl who needs a smartphone; iPhone. If you're signing into a contract (why?!); iPhone.

An easy way is to have a one-handed mode keyboard, like on the Note:

Personally, I sometimes miss cursor pads and slide-down keyboards as an adjunct input method. Trackballs/pads allow the option of one-handedly selecting anything even on a large screen. Slide-down slide keyboards allowed easy one-handed typing, plus they didn't cover the screen. (I.e. I liked the Palm Pre, and I liked the optical trackpad on my original Incredible.) Touch is great, but it's not always the best input method for one-handed use.

It amazes me how people impose their PERSONAL PREFERENCES upon the rest of the world, as if their preference is the only good one!

If Apple makes a phablet and you don't like them, guess what? DON'T BUY ONE! I, personally, don't like chunky peanut butter, but I don't bandstand against it. I know many people do like it. It's called choice. Having an Apple "phablet" isn't going to affect you having a normal iPhone whatsover, so what are you afraid of?

Too much choice is a bad thing. Steve Jobs upon returning to Apple realised this. And removed all the superfluous choice in the Apple line up.

Also Apple should only make the best products. Not any old crap. Apple are the best for a reason, it's not time for their standards to drop by making similar crap to other companies. Apple are not doing this, not. And I hope Apple never do this.

Yes choice exists. I can buy a good product or I can buy a crap product. Ah but remove the crap product, and less choice out there, but in the end life is better as there's no crap product for people to buy.

I don't think having two sizes of phones will cripple the buying public.

This is from the same company who once had four sizes of laptops on the market at the same time.

the only thing which can make the apple's phablet a success is a special stylus(just like the spen)
there is no BIG competitor of the note, why? because the note offers a stylus. so, if apple wants to make a phablet they better bring a stylus with it.

Just add the phone parts to an iPad and be done with it, then you can have a Dom Jolly phone all of your own.

It'll work great with your iGlasses and iWatch

Apple doesn't need to make a stylus. There are a dozen third party ones that work great.

Now better support like finer pickup points etc, sure. That would always be good, even just for using fingers

For sure! I've never seen a Note user actually take that piece of **** out. Not in my Apple, thank you.

Never. Going. To. Happen.

Oooooh, I have an idea. If you are one of the FEW that wants this.... you go buy it. Makes more sense than giving everybody one and you telling the other 99.99% of people that DON'T want it just not to use it, right?

Aren't you ignoring 50% of the population that doesn't need pockets?

I see a lot of women using these large phones with a wallet case they put in their purse.

No not at all, I am happy for there to be a bigger phone but not at the expense of the normal sized phone. Samsung put all their eggs in the s4 basket and the mini 's' is shocking. They are just running on the name - it's not remotely the same.

Apple key winning feature is little fragmentation and this may be an issue.

Like I said though a big phone could have a massive battery. Whatever anyone says about iPhone it's battery is way better per size than it's competitors. And that is down to the OS.

For those who like/need to have/carry only a single device instead of both a phone and a tablet, a phablet is a very useful compromise.

As for being too big to use as a phone, some of us started out with devices like these:

View attachment 431861View attachment 431860

Today's phablet is a thin wisp of a device in comparison :)

Besides, people spend far less time actually talking on phones these days, and more time interacting with what's on the screen.

True. But I've gotten used to smaller phones that fit in my pocket. Anything larger than a Galaxy S3 (haven't tried the S4) is just not comfortable in my hand or my pocket. If I was a woman and carried a purse, I guess I wouldn't mind as much. I don't want to wear a holster for the phone like I remember people doing in the 90's.

That's what I don't understand. How do guys carry the huge screen phones? I've tried the various Notes and they're too big to fit and carry for day to day use.

Samsung said: "Sorry Apple. No displays for you. We are too busy with Galaxy Note 3 right now".

Samsung isn't an iPhone display supplier nor have they been one in any recent years. In fact they don't even really make phone LCD displays anymore as far as I know.

I am in the minority. My dream phone is an iPod Touch-like iPhone with the original 3.5" display which will be amazing for my pocket and one hand usage. I have the original Galaxy S and the HTC One S, 4" (but bigger then the iPhone 5's 4" screen) and 4.3" respectively and find them to be just a slightly bit too big for my taste. However there probably will not be another 3.5" phone in the near future.
