Posted several times that I wouldn't mind a 21 inch size laptop that acts like an iPad.

Soon...

I am not sure what the fussy is all about?

This is what they should have done while back. Introducing many different sizes.
NOw, they see that their other computer's are being cannibalized, they feel that they will have to adjust. Fine, I will give apple the benefit of the doubt and give them a chance 2 years later(for now, I am patiently waiting on note 3).

As to 13 inch ipad, this is just super natural progression and where everything is going. Laptop/tablet hybrid is the future. Imagine your mba.. but also you can detach your screen to bring to your bed to read or study or watch a movie.. or bring to presentation.. This is why apple is now reacting instead of dictating.. Again goes back to Cook's inability.

I still like apple(after all, everything I own is apple product). But my next 2 years , I won't be purchasing any apple products..

awesome!!!!

That's not surprising. In fact, SONY and at least one or two other companies did something like this. This is the general direction of what the tablet PC market will appear to end up as an alternative to desktop computing.

The best use of the large tablet screen is the Wacom Cintiq

They don't come cheap but look around and find youtube clips of them. Very, very cool.

I think Apple is happy to leave that market to Wacom. Realistically, there are significant design trade-offs to turn the iPad into a tool for digital artists and I can't see Apple taking those trade-offs. The iPad has never been intended as a professional digital drawing tablet and probably never will be.

At first the iPad had some interesting painting apps when it came out. Initially, that became the ideal conceptualizing tool for professional artists. It still is a good tool for this reason, but when it comes to doing 'heavy duty' or finished artwork on high resolution for print, using the Wacom is the best method working with a desktop program.

I think the new POGO stylus pro is a good alternative for iPad users. I'm waiting to hear from Wacom Europe on that announcement of their new tablet product. It should be unveiled, I think, around August. A LOT of professional artists have been clamoring about it lately on message boards. I would love to get that so I can do some actual digital art on it and be able to export it to the desktop, if needed, for more tweaking, or the finished piece to a client from the tablet on a cloud network, ie. Dropbox.

Not sure if anyone has does the math to see the exact match but... even if you kept the same resolution and stretched the phone to 4.3 or 4.5 with the same aspect ratio the PPI would still be in the "RETINA" range as it would be around 300 PPI, which is higher than the retina iPad. So for everyone who is saying that they can't... they still can call it Retina without having to really backpedal at all, since Retina was their own marketing term anyway.

Cheers! :):apple:
Everyone but Apple already moved on. 300 ppi+ is not really something special any longer. And since iOS 7 I begin to understand why: The contrasty, fine graphics used do look kind of pixelated to me (things like the battery status, the empty circles for reception status or the "GPRS"-symbol).

It is about time! A lot slow on the uptake.

Who is running the iphone department? Must be some luddite.

It's amazed me that people want a bigger screen on an iPhone, yet won't pick up the bigger screen of the iPad mini- it all just seems like an excuse to me.

But the iPad getting bigger should definitely be done, it just makes sense. Either way, if bigger does come, I'm just seeing it as Apple beating companies (and their customers) at their own game.

In a perfect gadget world we would have five sizes of each device however I know too much would cause fragmentation along the line.

A bigger screen iPhone next year seems obvious. With all the built-in navigation gestures in iOS 7, it all just adds up.

Taken Apple so so so long to come up with a larger screen for the iPhone. Let's hope it's not too little too late...

It is possible some people that moved on to larger screens would come back if Apple has more options. Of course it likely will not even be until the iPhone 6 and that may be pushing it a bit.

YES for large iPad!!!
Musicians, artists, engineers, architects, photographers, students........

Thank you for having vision while the rest of this thread is grousing about how they would hold a 13" ipad. Perhaps--you would use a 13" ipad differently...sin't this the 'think different' demographic? And good for you if you'd rather have a mac book air--but try drawing on it. A 13" ipad with active digitization would be an awesome art and music tool--if only we can figure out how to hold it?

Yep everyone who deals in the management side of construction would want a large iPad or the other killer product in that space would be an A3 sized ePaper device, like a really big kindle, especially if cheap enough for all the trades people to carry on site with them.

this is ridiculous. i've always loved the iphone for its size, and i wouldn't want a phone any bigger than the current iphone 5. hopefully they'll at least keep offering different sizes or i'm out.

if you're unable comfortably to use it with one hand only, it's not a phone anymore.

Bring on the maxi pad

This is the best new product rumour ever - would love a larger ipad - just keep it skinny and light :)

Would make an awesome business presentation tool.

Although it might seem he does little next to nothing I highly doubt the board would allow him to do absolutely nothing. If he has or hasn't been pursuing a larger screen size we wouldn't know at this point unless a major leak was revealed.

If he spends time defending his product, it might not be because he's not open to larger screen sizes but simply because he's proud of what Apple up until September of last year was able to accomplish with the iPhone. I love Tim Cook and I think he's a great CEO. But just like every time that he's asked about the future of Apple TV, only time will tell.

This rivalry with Samsung apparently came out of nowhere and sort of caught them off guard. I don't think anyone expected a big screen trend to develop like it did. Initially people believed it looked really silly.

Again, I think in the past year Apple has had a lot of misfortune and Tim has a lot of work ahead of him. I'm sure we all love our Apple products here and if you don't well, there's always the other guys. I mean, if Apple fails it's not the end of the world right? :)

I am speaking as an APPLE SHAREHOLDER.

I seriously doubt they would make a 13 inch iPad. What I am really hoping is that they are testing a 13 inch touchscreen for a MacBook Air. I won't buy one until it gets touch. As it is now, I'm so used to using my iPad with a logitech keyboard, every time I go back to using my 17 inch MacBookPro, I constantly find myself reaching for the screen to move something around only to quickly be reminded it isn't a touchscreen.

Ok dude I was just going to say this but glad I saw your comment first. I totally, 100% agree! I have been toying with the idea of buying a Macbook Air, but I think I will wait until this fall to see if this happens or not. I think it just would make sense really, the Air is thin enough that's for sure! Let's keep our fingers crossed!

13 inch iPad

great news, just for numbers, the current iPad is 7.76 by 5.82 inch, a 13 inch would be 10.40 by 7.80 inch. So, if you want to know what this would look like, just turn you iPad sideways in comic zeal or good reader. All of a sudden, you don't have to squint, don't have to zoom, it is, yes magical! I would buy one in a second, 128 GB, or if possible 256 GB!

Please Apple...

Dont laugh but every time someone says is it possible to download torrents (movies-mp3's) then the usual answer is: iPad is not meant for that...not meant for piracy...virus alert. Its for casual use. In the days i had my ipad i only opened my mac in order to download tv shows/music albums... i prefered my ipad for surfing the web/youtube/ibooks/music/even watching tv shows/basketball games etc. But wouldnt it be great to have one device for all that stuff? I mean i got the f.....n money to obtain an ipad/mac/iphone etc but i dont want all these devices. I dont want all these devices to constantly distract me from Life!! I loved my ipad 3,4 and mini but after a while i always sold them cause my macbook air was better for my needs... iphone 5+ MBA Air is ideal for me.... ipad never filled in the equation. So thats the proper file system for me... if it will ever happen then i will purchase an apple tv and i will happily say goodbye at my MBA. But it wont happen and after a while i found all my ipads to be big iphones... and thats why i sold them.

Maybe you should pay for stuff like an adult?

The OS X UI (in it's current state) would be terrible to use on a touch screen. That's why there is iOS! :)

MacOS X has a touch device - either the trackpad, or the magic mouse. So the OS can handle it easily. It's the users who can't handle it long term, because the human arms are not built for that. You can do a simple experiment: Open your laptop, then point your finger at each of the four corners in sequence. Repeat this until you think your arm is falling off. Tell us how long you could do it.

Let me restate, OS X isn't meant to be used on a "touch screen", I said nothing about not being about to handle a touch device. That is one area where OS X really shines. OS X is just not designed to be used in a touch screen interface. Imagine trying to close a window by hitting that small red dot with your finger, a mouse or trackpad is a lot better tool to use for quick and accurate navigation.

Yes choice is good. However, if you've lived through a post-Jobs world before, you'll remember when Apple had so many products in their lineup they become irrelevant and confusing. The company lost focus and sped towards bankruptcy.

Let's hope that isn't happening again.

I think they have a better management in place than before, and more importantly the world is more of a tech consumer market than it was then.

Most people don't upgrade their computers ever 2 years but don't think twice about doing that for their phone, tablet, music player etc.
