13" iPad is very similar to a standard 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper.

Musicians would love it for sheet music.

I hate to tell you this, but you're very, very wrong. The phone portion of the iPhone has become less and less important as time goes on. People now expect them to be multitiered communication devices, PDAs, and small computers. They want to take a phonecall with it. Text someone. Email a bunch of people. Watch movies on it. Listen to some songs. Use it to take pictures. Read a webpage. Post an update to their blog. Play a game. Check up and possibly edit a .pdf document while eating lunch away from work. There are a bunch of things people do with their iPhones, of which calling people is but one smaller feature among many.

It's true. A lot of people prefer texting, tweeting, and using other nonverbal communications channels over speaking on the telephone.

The iPhone is really a pocketable tablet with a phone app. iPhone is arguably no more a phone than it is a camera, web browser, or iPod.

Apple Flavored Maxi Pads!?

Seriously....iPad Maxi...

Great they are going to go into the feminine hygiene products business! Those are going to be some interesting commercials, and you thought sexting was a joke before! Now you can really let your crotch do the talking. with a camera no less! Here comes a wave of political scandals so hot even herpes don't seem so bad.

I'm hardcore Apple don't get me wrong but this is ridiculous! I've talked to countless friends and family and the all to common reaction is an initial blush, a comment of horror followed by uncontrollable laughter!:eek:

My God man pull it together! :apple:

Now a days, I've realize that I use my iPhone much more often as a pocket email/internet device than as an actual phone. Therefore, I could indeed welcome a 5" iPhone.

Yes, I know I could get an iPad mini, but...
  • it's too big to be pocketable
  • I don't want to carry 2 devices.

Therefore, blending them both into a 5"-ish iPhone could be ideal for me.

7.9", 9.7", 12.9" - Can't they make an iPad screen with a whole number?

That said an iPad with an A4 size screen would be brilliant.

it's a rumor, dude, not a press release. and quite clearly a dumb one. not sure why you would take it that seriously.

Simply put no. Os X would be horrible on a touch screen device. Not to mention what you're suggesting is putting x86 intel processors into a tablet form factor (see surface for how well that has been implemented). That means a battery life hit, fans, and extra bulk. We're not there yet.

Perhaps for right now, but I wonder if Apple isn't considering another year down the road. . . . The successor to Mavericks with the upcoming Atom processors (which are rumored to sip power at a level comparable to ARM) or a future low-powered AMD APU might produce a tablet powerful enough to do basic to moderate work for the average consumer. Win 8 RT tablets have been a disaster, but I think Apple will need a tablet which runs OS X software natively to compete with future Win 8 tablets which will appeal to more casual users/consumers.

Everyone says this over and over, but plenty of us have found alternatives that are so good, we don't need a filesystem. For example, Dropbox. Other option - Google Drive. I'm sure there are plenty more, but they've all but rendered a filesystem unnecessary.

Dont laugh but every time someone says is it possible to download torrents (movies-mp3's) then the usual answer is: iPad is not meant for that...not meant for piracy...virus alert. Its for casual use. In the days i had my ipad i only opened my mac in order to download tv shows/music albums... i prefered my ipad for surfing the web/youtube/ibooks/music/even watching tv shows/basketball games etc. But wouldnt it be great to have one device for all that stuff? I mean i got the f.....n money to obtain an ipad/mac/iphone etc but i dont want all these devices. I dont want all these devices to constantly distract me from Life!! I loved my ipad 3,4 and mini but after a while i always sold them cause my macbook air was better for my needs... iphone 5+ MBA Air is ideal for me.... ipad never filled in the equation. So thats the proper file system for me... if it will ever happen then i will purchase an apple tv and i will happily say goodbye at my MBA. But it wont happen and after a while i found all my ipads to be big iphones... and thats why i sold them.

Going to 4.3 or 4.5+ wouldn't eliminate RETINA designation

Not sure if anyone has does the math to see the exact match but... even if you kept the same resolution and stretched the phone to 4.3 or 4.5 with the same aspect ratio the PPI would still be in the "RETINA" range as it would be around 300 PPI, which is higher than the retina iPad. So for everyone who is saying that they can't... they still can call it Retina without having to really backpedal at all, since Retina was their own marketing term anyway.

Cheers! :):apple:

"iPad Maxi".... MaxiPad.... -really, guys? Since when did Harry Knowles become editor-in-chief of MacRumors?

If the 13" is light enough I would so buy this over the current one. My ipad is always at home anyway. A 5" phone and a 13" ipad would fit my needs perfectly.

Been a Galaxy user for the last several years with my current phone being a Note 2. That being said, if Apple decides to come out with a phone that is at least as big as the Note 2 (or even a tad bit bigger) I would definitely be interested. Same for Blackberry. I'm a sucker for giant screen phones :D

And that is terrible. Apple stock has underperformed the S&P 500 by 30.7% during that same period. So you could have more than tripled your gains if you invested in a broad market S&P 500 fund. It is all about perspective.

And by the way, Apple stock is only up by 12.9% since 8/24/2011 (424.95 vs. 376.18).

GL
Stock closed down 5% after hours, after the announcement (i.e. before he was actually "on the job"). Cook inherited that hole and he's the one who got to dig out of that hole, so no, it's up 19%.

Plus, if you look at the technology index instead of S&P to compare Apple to its peers, the sector only rose more like 26%. So is it great? No. But I don't think it qualifies as "tanking" either. Fact is, if you invested money in AAPL on Cook's first day on the job, and sold it today, you made money. Sure, you could have made a better investment, but you also could have lost money investing in other companies.

If Apple makes a larger iPad the would probably call it... the new iPad. Notice how they break up the screen sizes of their other verticals: no more than 2 sizes for the MBA, MBP, and iMac. Any more than that would put off and confuse the customer. They have a lot of fragmentation with the different carrier models and different storage tiers as it is. Plus, The iPhone got a larger screen size and it wasn't called the iPhone Maxi, it was called the iPhone 5; and obviously the "5" had nothing to do with the screen size.

And yeah, iPhone needs to get bigger.
