5C is higher profit. Simples.

Exactly, they're advertising it more because it's likely a higher margin product (remember earlier this year when Apple took heat from investors for having lower margins?).

5s has been selling itself though, reports say it outsold the 5c 4:1 on opening weekend.

I loved it

When I held the 5c in my hands for the first time, I was amazed how well it felt. It felt like the highest quality plastic. Solid, not flimsy like Galaxy phones.

I have the option to get the 5s though. But now that I have the 5c, why bother?

You know what I noticed? I'm coming from a 5 and by the time I was done with that phone it looked like crap. The edges were frayed, the coating was gone and the scratches were nerve wrecking.

If I'd have gotten the 5s, I would've had to put up with that all over again.

The 5c doesn't get hot like the 5 did.

I don't really understand why pay to switch to the same phone but heavier, thicker, and with a plastic backing. Could have just gotten a case for the 5 for less, and otherwise they are the same phone.

5C is higher profit. Simples.

Only in terms of percentage on the unit. In terms of gross profit, the 5S still makes them more. It doesn't cost them $100 more to make the 5S than the 5C ;)

Not when wanting high speed data in many parts of the world.

Parts on the 5s cost more than the parts on the 5cheap... A7 chip, finger print scanner, etc....

Given the choice between the OLD iphone 5 or the iphone 5c, I would chose the ILD iphone 5 hands down.

Well that depends, factors would include how many of the iphone 5 parts they can recycle from last years phone, a more durable 5C would result in less warranty claims, I think apple got burned on the iphone 5 and scuffgate, hence why this years 5S addresses that issue with a slight redesign. The 5C is more then 100 dollars cheaper for apple.

Last years phone is the best phone.. got it.

I think the iphone 4 was so far ahead of the competition, and still think its the best phone they made.

The ads simply mean Apple is hoping to drive demand for the 5C. It really says nothing about the 5S. The comparative lack of 5S ads at this moment is readily explained by the comparative lack of availability at this moment.

And observe:

Go to your local Apple store. The tables with the 5S are mobbed. The tables with the 5C... not so much.

5C is a great phone, but it's not turning out the crowds just through the mere fact of existing, as the 5S does. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the role advertising was born to play.

Really not down with that silver colored stainless steel band. The 4/4s is short and thick and the glass on the back broke a lot. Put it in one of those fugly neon bumpers that 4 and 4s owners really seem fond of and you get a really ugly phone. Or use an Otterbox and totally hide the fact that it's an iPhone inside the case because you can't tell and there goes any of the beauty that that model may have.

The 5 is solid black and has a metal back. If you get the white one the band is silver, but the white one is not my cup of tea. Both colors of the 5 are considerably thinner than the 4/4s and because there is not that big ugly gash for the 30pin connector at the bottom it looks better. Add in the fact that Apple relocated the headphone jack to the bottom and it's ifinitely better to have in the pocket with the headphones in. You don't have to pull it out and turn it around so you can see what's on the screen.

Just my opinion, to each their own. The 4 and 4s is still a great iPhone, I just don't care for it's looks.

LOL! You could have split it down the middle and gotten yourself an iPhone 5. It's not the 5s, but the 5c is last year's 5 with a PLASTIC case, unlike the iPhone 5 itself which is METAL!

Just sayin' :D
You know, not everyone wants a metal phone. The soft, smooth plastic of the 5c feels a LOT nicer in-hand than the harsh, cold aluminum of the 5 and 5s. I could have bought a 5 months ago but when the rumors of the 5c started, I held out specifically for the 5c.

I don't understand all these newcomers coming here trying to justify their new cheap version of a 1 year old phone. You bought it cause you like..... ok, so.... NEXT PLEASE!

It's a shame Apple didn't come out with a black iPhone 5c, but they knew exactly what they were doing. Knowing that the professional types would then be turned off by lack of a black option and instead would go with the more expensive 5s.

I know and I don't begrudge anyone their choice. It's just my opinion is all. However, the way MY iPhone 5 with it's metal case feels in MY hand is so much better to me than any other phone I have had, including my 3GS which is also plastic.

Why hello again wrathofmavrix/wrathofmacs/fukai-no-mita ;)

Are you saying the person that started this post, is the same person who started the The thread

Dude joined, made 5c threads talking about how much better it is over the 5s (which mods completely deleted some), and got banned 5 times last night from what I could tell :p

He is persistent if nothing else, pretty sure mods got tired of the work and just let him be.

He sure does love his 5c though. He just wants validation from others to feel like he made the correct choice so you can't be too mad at him for that ;)

EDIT: And just like that... OP is banned again.

The parts do cost a bit more, but Apple still makes more money on the 5S than on the 5C. Let's say it costs them $40 more to make the 5S, they still profit $60 on it.

As a percentage, it may be less (I don't know the exact figures for cost production) but it's all about gross profits.

And I too would happily take a 5 over 5C. At least there's the option of getting a plastic or any kind of case you'd like, but the phone is still thinner and lighter. Still considering a used 5 if I can find one on iOS 6.

I liked the 5c a lot when I held it and I'm huge in the build quality department. Hate creaky plastic. It felt nicer than my iphone 5.

It might be my next phone. The space grey looked nice but it's the same stuff - awful scratches are a given.

That being said, there's no reason to get one now since I have a 5. If the 32gb 6c is still the same price as the 16gb next year, I'll be getting that.

do you think it would be possible to put an iphone5 white front on a white 5c?

I'd make love to that ****ing phone with a white face instead of black.

Aside from the fact that it wouldn't be cost effective and would destroy trade in value

Funny, I loved the black-front/white-back of the white 3GS. I was glad to see it coming back with the 5c.

Apple could actually make a cheap iPhone and it would probably look better. It's just Apple's way of doing things ...

Nah. The reason Apple products are superior is because they don't make things cheap. Apple = fit/quality/finish. The moment they stray from that is the moment they cease to exist in the capacity they do now.

Yes I agree. Of course nothing they make will ever actually be cheap

So, because Apple is advertising it more, and it's ~easier to attain than the 5s, it's the better phone?

Typical sheep mentality. If A is more advertised than B that equals A > B.

*slap OPer* think McFly, think!

I'm also sick and tired of seeing pink, red, green, blue and yellow on apple.com...I think it's unprofessional...

Lol this Is why I got white. Me though idc what other people think . I got the 5c because it's the phone I wanted. I went in told them I wanted two space grey 5s's but wanted to look at the 5c. I looked at them and decided... I picked a white 5c for me and a blue one for my fiancée which she is in love with ...

TLDR - The 5C (repackaged 5) is marketed more heavily, therefore I've given in and accepted that it's the superior phone.
