So Apple owns the rights to what Steve Jobs looked like? That's insane!

It looks like it comes with an iPhone shaped device with the Apple logo on it, so I'd assume that's where the infringement comes in.

Also, it's tacky and tasteless.

Who on earth would defend the figurine makers here? This is hardly a frivolous lawsuit; they clearly don't own the rights to Jobs's likeness. It really doesn't matter whether it's Apple or the Jobs Estate filing the suit, the point is that they have no legal right to be making a profit off of a (deceased) man's likeness.

Dude that is a F@#KING AWESOME idea for a psychological thriller. LOL!!! Make this Happen! The best possible thing to come out of a doll idea like this for sure.

Steve Jobs Doll the new "Chucky"?

I was in the process of editing my post to include a small script but cancelled it. If the original post hits more than 10 likes, I will be posting it.

I will definitely buy it!

Pls Don't become a jerk .. Apple ...

BTW, I still can't guarantee that there might be someone, who isn't an Apple fan, buy it and try to set the figurine in the ridiculous action -"-

I don't understand

I don't understand what the big deal is. All the maker has to do is make a few changes to the doll and Apple won't have a problem with it. That's what I did and they're selling like hotcakes!

Amicable Solution

I would be quite happy to have this mini Steve Jobs questioning my every move and decision relating to my business. I would guess that quite a few people would like one for their own reasons.

Why not sanction this figurine, but stipulate that x% goes straight to cancer research?

Would this not be a better thing to do than waste millions on legal stuff?

Just a thought.

Didn't Elvis Presley die in 1977? Don't see people getting sued imitating him.

I seriously doubt Apple owns Steve's personality rights. In all likelihood, those rights belong to his estate.

So, Apple can sabre rattle all they want, they don't have standing to sue.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/9A405)

Soon Apple will be suing people who call their kids Steve or calling employment websites job websites.

Fanboys rated this down? WTF. This is a legit worry. Pretty soon apple will sue grocery stores over using the name "apple" to describe a fruit. WTF is wrong with this multi-billion dollar bohemeth who just doesn't have enough money.

I can't imagine what it would be like to be a member of Steve's family and see some company from Hong Kong trying to make money off of this thing. Going through the grieving process is difficult enough without having to look at stuff like this.

As others have said, most likely Steve assigned the rights to his image to Apple upon his death. There's nothing wrong with him or his family, or Apple if they were assigned the rights, trying to protect his image, even posthumously.

Is this a joke?

Apple is really becoming a company I do not want to support anymore. These legal issues are becoming outrageous. Honestly, who gives a s*** if they make a doll?

A bit more nuanced...

Laws protecting likenesses (such as Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley) are based upon the monetization of the image itself. Public figures whose appearance is not a part of their business are not covered. For example, you can buy rubber masks of presidents in novelty stores. Do you think Nixon's estate licensed them?

As for Steve jobs, it would be hard, but not impossible, to claim that his image was part of the Apple product line...

i've never seen steve wear a belt with his jeans/mock turtleneck. strike 1 for "realistic"...
