Hopefully the end result from all of this is preventing Apple from forcing devs or companies to pay Apple 15/30% of their revenue. This would destroy a significant chunk of Apple's revenue, future plans, and send their stock falling but it's only a matter of time til the US gov't steps in. Apple deserves all the bad press it gets over this.

As a consumer I certainly hate it when someone is prevented from supplying me something for a better price.

Then you should be throwing a fit that the real reason they did it was to increase their own bottom line. Or, did you miss the part where they reduced pricing by only 20%, keeping a new 10% portion that was previously being given to Apple?

Epic made their point. They will probably wait 14 days and bring it back in to compliance. They are just trying to prove violation of the Sherman act and get public attention. They did that, so they don't have any reason to keep it out of compliance for more than a couple weeks. Just long enough for Fortnite players to notice. Maybe they will add a V-Bucks store on their website instead, since those rules are much more vague. It basically says that only a minority of users can purchase outside a game.

Apple is as bad as MS of their era.

The amount of pro-Apple bias, even on a fan site like MR is unbelievable.

The same people would have rooted against the MS monopoly of past, now rooting for the Apple monopoly (cause Apple is somehow their friend).

That Apple can even cut out a company that displeases them shows how artificially locked-down their devices are. No consumer wins from that.
I disagree. This is exactly what protecting my interests looks like.

I’m as big of a fan of Apple as anyone else here... but defending Apple on this is weird to me. You LIKE paying more for things as a consumer because of the high cut Apple takes because they can? Should Microsoft take 30% of every windows program, that you in turn pay for?

Nope. Apple charges the same 30% everyone else does. I don't see PS or Xbox letting people sell products without taking 30%.

Part of what drives me nuts about all the people complaining about Apple is that they seem to not realize that anyone selling a product, that isn't the product's manufacturer, is charging the manufacturer to sell that product. Everything on the shelf at Home Depot, everything on Amazon, everything at Best Buy, all those companies are paying to have their products sitting there. Apple, Google, Microsoft, Sony, they're not at all unique. It's such misplaced anger.

New from Epic Games: "Apple has removed Fortnite from the App Store and informed Epic that on Friday, August 28 Apple will terminate all our developer accounts and cut Epic off from iOS and Mac development tools."
Apple is using their monopoly power over the Apple Mac App Store to extend their monopoly over... the Apple iOS App Store?

See you weren’t around for the dark times, times when developers like Microsoft or other game devotees actively ignored the Mac platform. I still remember going to my local electronics store and seeing wall to wall games, all made for pc, then going to the Mac section that was 2 rows deep with most being productivity programs. These company’s never gave one **** over The Mac platform and if we did get a AAA title, it’s usually a 2 year old port done by asypr.

I bought my iPhone cause I want the best user experience for a mobile phone, same with my computer/tablet.

Game developer here, I use Unreal Engine on MacOS. If Apple blocked Epic from developer tools and Epic are unable to release Unreal Engine 5 on Mac I will be forced to stop using Apple entirely and will ditch my Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods Pro, etc for alternatives. I am sure a lot of other developers will end up doing the same thing. This comes at a critical time as well. Good thing I didn't buy a new MacBook Pro yet!

Also how come apple doesn't charge Amazon any fees and let's them use their own payment system but doesn't let Epic use theirs? This is extremely anticompetitive.

I hope you take a step back and realize how silly that comment is. China has helped Apple become who they are as well with the low labor costs building their products. Apple can put all the cute 'Designed by Apple in California' tags on their products they want, but most are still made in China. Apple is not some innocent victim here. This battle between Epic and Apple is literally a Goliath vs Goliath and WILL likely cause shockwaves across the industry when it is all said and done. This isn't anywhere near being done.

Why should I step back? I don't think my comment was silly. I literally stated a fact. Tencent is a majority stake-holder in Epic Games. Which means they are a large investor, that, if you take a look at their portfolio, is heavily invested in the gaming market. Tencent is know for funding growth over profit because they simply want to become bigger and bigger.
This is not silly. This is a fact. Just look up their portfolio. Tencent is also pro-government of the CCP. Anything or anyone that is pro communism should absolutely not be supported, regardless of who or where or what. Anyone can disagree with that of course, I respect that.

Microsoft had 90% global marketshare.
Apple has less than 20% global marketshare.

Microsoft was literally a monopoly while Apple is currently not a monopoly.

Except in retail, the physical product goes through the hands of various employees before it ends up on the shelf. The product mentioned here is a digital kilobyte file that doesn't take any manpower to store/maintain.

That being said, I believe Fortnite will be back in the store soon enough with IAP removed completely and the only way to purchase would be through a website.
That's against the rules, too, as games aren't allowed to not use IAP for digital goods and services (in contrast to apps like Netflix and Spotify, which are exempted as "reader" apps and allowed to go sign-in-only). If you sell in-game currency for your game, you must also offer it as an IAP under App Store review guidelines.

That's completely insane to me and anti-consumer to its core. I really hope Apple loses this battle.
