Sure. I mean, if you feel perfectly well-rested and can’t tell that you haven’t been sleeping, it’s important to know that you have a sleep problem that isn’t affecting you in any perceptible way.
Well I don’t always feel well rested...

If you wake feeling great that's a definition of good sleep.

Serious question here. You seem to be annoyed that some people find the sleep tracking useful. Why does it bother you so much?

I do agree that it's a silly feature for some people or perhaps even most people. You can drown in stats and miss the forest for the trees by obsessing over numbers that might not mean what you think they mean.

On the other hand. It's a huge benefit for those of us who really need this. I'm not going to bore you with details, but I actually have an easier time leading a normal life because of sleep tracking. For you, this might be a novelty. I get that. For me it's game changer.

Anytime you're not wearing it. Perhaps after you wake up in the morning. It only take a few minutes to top off the battery. You can put it on the charger while you shower and dress.

But that would throw off my Shower and Dress trackers.

Actually, NO, that is NOT the definition of good sleep.

If only they’d make it so Apple Watch would track my gluten exposure, warn me if there are any blue light wavelengths nearby, and remind me to drink water once an hour...

Aren'tt hey working on glucose measurements for a future version? that would be great for diabetics.

the blue length wavelength thing is nonsensicle.... since almost every light has some form of blue wavelength in it... or you'd have light that wasn't... well, white light.

and there are apps to remind you to do things on regular basis. alongside stretching, getting up and doing things. So i'm pretty sure there's apps out there to remind you to drink a glass of water every hour.

I frequently sleep with my Apple Watch. I just put it in airplane mode and turn on theater mode before getting in bed and it doesn't run the battery down much at all while I am asleep. Then I put it on the charger when I am in the shower the next morning and I usually have 90+% charge when I leave the house in the morning.

What do you mean? I said it’s a good thing.

People like to micromanage things thinking it will help when there are actual moves you can take to make sure you have quality sleep and no tracking is needed. You don't need a sleep tracker to try and go sleep at different times. Useless for anyone with a brain.

Well, at least it would be useful for you.

why is everyone so butthurt about tracking sleep.

I track with AutoSleep. Throw on Theatre Mode and I lose about 15% overnight. That easily charges back while I shower. Then the app tells me how long I slept, how I slept, etc, which is very helpful to know if I'm slacking. Then I'll go to bed earlier or allot myself an extra hour in the morning if I'm behind. Matt Walker says “Sleep is the greatest legal performance enhancing drug that most people are probably neglecting” and I absolutely believe him. The days I've gotten 8-9 hours are amazing.

I can only imagine how great the experience would be if Apple baked this in.

Really what is the point?
I really would not want to wear my watch while I slept any way.
And unless they are planning on either improving the battery life or shortening the charge time considerably.
The watch would be dead by mid morning.

I had a mid-day nap a couple weeks ago that my Apple Watch woke me up from with a warning about my heart beat. Thanks to the Watch, I was able to figure out what had happened and get medical help. It turned out to be a minor problem that was easy to correct.

But since then, I let my watch charge while I'm getting ready for bed and wear it overnight. Then I let it charge when I get ready for my day. Between those, I'm able to wear the Apple Watch all day and I have much better data than before. If I start losing ground doing this, I'll watch an hour of TV while it charges. The battery capacity may be small, but that means it doesn't take long to charge either

Wait - is apple adding a butthurt tracker?

AutoSleep is incredibly slick and does not impact battery life the slightest. I only ever charge my watch when I'm taking a shower in the morning and it's an S3.
