Someone explain why so many people hate this deal on this site? Who cares what apple spends it's money on as long as it keeps making great products.

Maybe because some people don't consider Beats to be great products.

But all the speculation points to the same thing. I have yet to see one of these stories mention any amazing tech/IP that Apple is after. What's really scary is this part from the NY Post article:

So Apple just begun doing "due diligence" and dug up some unsettling information but are still going to announce the acquisition this week? WTF?!?

I was thinking more of the number of rumors that have been repeated on here. At one point the site published articles predicting a television on an almost daily basis. The same happened with the iwatch (ironically could also work as a television name). I was just pointing out that you shouldn't take everything so seriously. None of us have truly meaningful information on the topic. What we do have should be treated as speculation. As for conducting an audit, that is normal.

Who cares? Apple has more important things to worry about than headphones. If Apple doesn't have any idea how else to spend $3 billion I'll give them an idea: more iCloud storage at a cheaper price. Microsoft gives you 7GB cloud storage for free. I just got charged $20 for 10GB iCloud storage.

so basically, give $3b back to the consumers?
yeah right.

(not that i don't think that would be awesome-- just that i don't think it's going to happen.. ever)

Yes! Love that this is coming true and eating at the hearts of all the buffoons on these forums that spewed nonsense and subliminal racism over the past 2 weeks. A few parting thoughts:

1.) The Beats Music app is awesome on iPhone and iPad and makes iTunes look tired and old
2.) Beats Music features every genre of music, not just hip-hop for you ill-informed
3.) The executive team at Apple is smarter than you and is likely to have thought everything through before forking over $3,000,000,000. Certainly more than your sensationalistic opinions on MacRumors.com Forums.
4.) Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre built a billion dollar business together - what have you done over the past 6 years?
5.) No one cares what you "audiophiles" think sounds the best. Hilarious how all you guys just throw out random brands that no one has ever heard of and declare them the best quality. Perhaps those brands should learn from Beats and figure out how to get people to spend $200-$400 on headphones to drive $1B in revenue per year. That's what Apple cares about.

I get that due diligence is normal. My WTF was around Apple apparently just starting that now but the acquisition is supposed to be announced yet this week. Seems a bit rushed IMO.

If this is true I hope Tim Cook gets sacked. Browett was an obvious terrible decision but everyone (including Jobs) makes mistakes.

However, this is just embarrassing. Even if it was a great decision (which it isn't) Apple shouldn't do it because of the message it sends to the world. In that, Apple'slargest acquisition in history is for terrible, overhyped, overpriced headphones.

I had argued that if this led to Apple getting license to make a Spotify competitor it would be worth it. But we now know that won't happen so I am dead against this.

I think all the hate here is because a lot if you guys are hipsters and beats are trendy right now, so you hate them.

Is it because he's black? What's the hate for?

This just reinforces what all the haters say about Apple, namely that their products are overpriced and more about fashion and marketing than good technology. Well Beats basically fits that definition to a T.

If this is true, T. Diddy has tarnish the image of Apple with Beat.

Shawty's gone low...in taste.

Hey I'm just saying if Apple needs to spend money and doesn't know what to spend it on, here's a way to do it.

Don't consider them to be great products based on personal use, or don't like them because big black athletes customize them and wear them during pregame warmups to listen to....GASP....RAP music. ? Guessing the latter for a lot of commenters here.

The Beats acquisition makes sense to me. We all expect wearable tech to be the future of the industry. Cook noted that, even though Google Glass is interesting, you're going to have a difficult time to convince people to wear something they've spent generations avoiding. People are already wearing beats- build wearable tech into them and brand out from there.

Beats is a company, neither black nor male, and inspires hate due to being overvalued and underwhelming. It's as simple as that.

This just reinforces what all the haters say about Apple, namely that their products are overpriced and more about fashion and marketing than good technology. Well Beats basically fits that definition to a T.

Why do you guys care so much though? If the products are what you like why does it matter what somebody else says about it?

I just don't understand how a successful company buying another successful company can draw so much hate.

If the future of wearables is lower quality, higher cost, Well marketed accessories please count me out.

Beats js ****. Apple would be so much better off spending $3bn acquiring the company run by the iPod founder.
