I know this may sound dumb to some, but can someone explain to me how this affects the rumored iPad event on the 15?

According to the rules of the SEC, Apple has to announce their quarterly earnings once every three months, once they have the final results for the previous quarter. There will be an earnings announcement next January, April, July, October, and the year after, and the year after.

So how does this effect any other events, rumoured or not? Not one bit.

Very interesting. Here was last year's schedule

Tuesday, 10/16: Invites to Event
Tuesday, 10/23: Event
Thursday, 10/25: Earnings
Friday, 10/26: Pre-order
Friday, 11/2: On-sale

We'll see how this year lines up. Already a slightly different schedule by having the earnings call on Monday - and maybe a sign that Apple expects to beat the numbers and dominate the news cycle for the week.

So...

Tuesday, 10/15: Invites to Event
Tuesday, 10/22: Event
Friday, 10/25: Preorder (if they allow)
Monday, 10/28: Earnings
Wednesday: 10/30: Mavericks
Friday: 11/1: New iPads, rMBP, MP, etc..

I'm going to assume that the new iPhone will be included? I wonder how well it did. The supply constraints seem to be more pronounced this time and at the same time there wasn't this big buzz as we normally hear. I guess it's because it's an "S" model and not a new design. I guess the "C" is kind of a new design.

I can never remember. . .do these calls follow major product launches typically or precede them?

*sigh*
These "usually" happen every three months, as dictated by the securities exchange commission & have f * * k - all to do with product releases.

If you'll remember back to last year, the iPad 4 and mini were announced two days before the Q4 earnings call (OCT 23rd and 25th).

*edit*
And they announced the iPad 4/mini media event on the 16th. I assume we'll be seeing the same thing in the next couple weeks.

COINCIDENCE??!! I think not!!!!
Half-Life 3 confirmed!!!!!!

----------

Earnings. Thank you Apple. Whatever.

Please don't forget to inform about the new ipad, ipad mini, macbooks and apple tv as well.

Yeah Apple..... Ok, we get it you're a "publicly traded company"... Ok, people "care a lot about your profits"!
Grrrrr!!! Can't you just break a myriad of laws & announce new product info for user: miazma INSTEAD of the legally mandated & eagerly anticipated earnings call??

----------

mavericks is 100% for sure coming soon though.

What?????!!!
An OS that went gold four days ago & thus is COMPLETELY done, will be actually coming out now?!!!!!!!
Holy crap... NOBODY could have put this together!! Did you notify the press??

Edit: *ugh* sorry, somebody else must have overheard you talk about this wild theory at a dinner party... turns out there's over 475,000 articles on Google also stating that.. Now that OSX is GM, it's arrival is imminent. *sigh* maybe you can scoop them if you come up with another clever unknown tidbit to post??? like the fact that Thanksgiving will be occurring AFTER Halloween this year?

I haven't seen anyone with the 5s or 5c, I don't think they are doing well at all. Even the Apple store I walked by last weekend didn't seem that busy as before. I think people are holding out with the larger screen iPhone 6 next year. Apple needs multiple sized phones to sell instead of just one size. 4" screens just don't cut it anymore.

Here we go, countdown to once again not being able to meet unrealistic expectations, and the Apple is doomed comments.

Sigh. When Apple's earnings outperform expectations by 10-20% and profits increase 20-30%, as they did for years running, then the stock soars. When the company fails to meet expectations, and earnings decline, as they've done for the last three quarters, then the stock falls. How the totally obvious logic of the markets manages to elude so many people never fails to amaze me.

I understand that; but you can't tell me that Apple doesn't strategically time product launches to coincide around the times of these quarterly earnings calls when it can to give investors something juicy to sink their teeth into.

I think that makes the most sense, with Apple usually wanting to release the software a few days before the new hardware (that will be running the software). It also allows them to maybe make a comment on the Earnings call that "preorders have exceeded our expectations".

I can tell you that they don't. Apple times releases to strategically coincide with the times when they belive they can sell the most product. Apple selling the most product is giving investors something juicy to sink their teeth into.

Apple to Announce Q4 2013 Earnings on October 28

I feel like it must be coming sooner. Why would they release a GM and then have the official build come out a whole month later unless it has bugs they must correct.
Mountain Lion GM was released a month before the final build.
*The GM was the same as final build for public release.

Ah, my mistake then. I don't know why I thought they usually release 1-2 weeks later. Either way it will be here soon.

Actually, this is a week later than normal (look back at past several years). Could be interesting.

It is always interesting. Maybe it is just taking them a little longer to close and reconcile the books. They are larger than they were last year. Also they have to give guidance and they may want to make giving guidance for the current quarter a little easier. One more week of data will help them on that guidance.

Apple does not care about short term movement of its stock. So no that type of game playing would be silly. Yes you might bump the stock for a quarter, but such a bump would be meaningless in comparison to actual sale results.

They time releases based on when the product is ready to get shipped and consumer purchasing patters (i.e., the ramp up to Christmas).
