Apple plans to announce its long-rumored 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with Apple silicon at WWDC, taking place in less than five days, according to Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives.

In a note to investors seen by MacRumors, Ives says alongside the normally expected announcement of new versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS, Apple is planning a "few surprises," including the announcement of the new MacBook Pros. The analyst, who has made predictions regarding event announcements in the past, says the M1 Apple silicon chip will power the new MacBook Pros; however, that's unlikely to be the case.

The upcoming MacBook Pros, which are already rumored to include several new changes such as the removal of the Touch Bar, a more flat-edged design, the return of the HDMI port, an SD card slot, and MagSafe magnetic charging, are likely to feature a more powerful iteration of the M1 chip, or even possibly M2. Apple announced the M1 chip last November, and since its initial debut in the low-end MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac mini, the chip has expanded to a new 24-inch iMac and the iPad Pro.

The new MacBook Pros, which reliable Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman believes could be announced as soon as early this summer, will be the highest-end Macs featuring Apple silicon to date. Apple formally announced its transition to its own silicon at WWDC last year, stating it would take a total of two years. Apple leaker Jon Prosser also believes that the new MacBook Pros, presumably the new 14-inch and updated 16-inch models, will launch at WWDC.

In his note today, Ives also reiterated previously reported predictions, including Wedbush's belief that the upcoming iPhone 13 lineup will feature 1TB storage capacity options, double the current highest 512GB models. In addition, the analyst also reaffirmed the belief that Apple plans to announce its AR glasses being dubbed "Apple Glasses" at WWDC in 2022, followed by the Apple Car in 2024.

Removal of the Touch Bar?????? You kidding right? The Touch Bar is a great feature.

Honestly, what apple really needs to announce is a display for the mainstream. It’s crazy we hook our beautiful Mac laptops up to crappy plastic dells or Samsung. Amd the lg partnership was a bust.

(that, and a proper OS for the iPad.)
Since my company is working remotely until at least Jan. 2022, I was thinking of treating myself to an LG 5K Ultrafine, buttt I want to see what Apple cooks up. If it would even be compatible with my Lenovo lol.

no it freezes and crashes. If Apple thought it was a great feature it would be in the new iMac keyboard. Only touchID was added.

FN keys don't crash or freeze on me so they are better.
Mine has crashed exactly one time on me in more than a year of everyday usage. What advantage does the MacBook Pro have over the air and over Windows laptops without the touch bar?

for me I don't care about mini-led, I am all for the M1X. After all thats more juciy than screen tech. haha
Agree, but we’ve had the same screen tech on MacBooks for a while now, time for a refresh 😃

Hoping for a Mini 'Pro' announcement as I've got a brand new M1 Mini that was delivered 3 days ago still in its box while I wait to find if I'm going to be returning it or not.

In really excited for this, have a 15’ now from a couple years back but I hate the Touch Bar and I want some of this M1 or M2 goodness lol. Gonna be hard to bite the bullet for the little amount I’ll get on a trade in with this MacBook but Id also consider the 14’ perhaps.

We already know this, as we've all seen the schematics! Lol

How is this fresh news?

I'd also like to issue a note to potential investors and interested parties that its my understanding Apple will announce new 14" and 16" MacBook Pros at WWDC next week. I also believe they will announce some surprises too! They might however not announce those products.

Where can I pick up my cheque?

The 2019 MBP wasn't, the 2016 MBP redesigns were not either.

Quite a few have been though:

15" and 17" in 2007
13", 15" and 17" in 2009
13" and 15" in 2012
13" and 15" in 2017

And of course they have launched other hardware there too including the MacPro several times, the G5 PowerMac's prior to that, the iMac Pro and so forth. Usually these systems don't ship within a few days/weeks or the keynote but sometimes they do. Usually the Laptops ship quite soon after the keynote, within June itself.

Personally I think the rumours are right and we'll see them unveiled at WWDC this year. I'm quite excited!

I just pulled the trigger and bought 13” MBP. I figured the new design will only be available on the higher end MBPs and the lower end will get the new design next year with M2 chip refresh.

M1 is more than enough for me. Absolutely blown away by it. Wanted the new design refresh but would have to shell out £1700+ Plus overkill chipset for me

So are we pretty confident that there will not be a macbook with mini led ( well not for the foreseeable anyway). There has been some conflicting information over the few days about this. I for one would love this.

I hope at least one version is sealed, air-tight, fanless like an iPad.

I know Macbook Air is that, but 2 ports are quite less and that too both on one side.
