And heavy work specifically requires a magnetic connector?
Yeah. Cutting movies for example requires the whole power of the machine and battery power drains fast - even on Apple MacBook Pros. That's at least my experience. So longer sessions without a power cord are not possible and this is, where MagSafe comes into play. Still I believe, Apple has some of the best batteries available on the market in his devices. But until today, mankind is not capable of building the type of batteries, people really would love to have. They drain too fast under load and they age too fast. No breakthrough here in sight IMO.

no it freezes and crashes. If Apple thought it was a great feature it would be in the new iMac keyboard. Only touchID was added.

FN keys don't crash or freeze on me so they are better.
During all the years of heavy usage of my 2017 MBP, I remember crashing the Touch Bar maybe once or twice - perhaps the same number, the whole MBP crashed during this time. Does it crash so much more on your machine?

This is a MacBook. I don't want to carry adapters and now the people that do use SD cards don't have to either.

SD cards are used more than CFexpress so it would make sense.
The amount of megapixels and bit depth modern professional cameras are offering is getting larger at ever increasing speed - think of 8K movie recording as an example. SD cards are foreseeable not capable of handling this huge amount of data in adequate time. That's why CFExpress was invented. If a have a MacBook PRO, I could also ask for a CFExpress card slot as well. So we have a SD card slot, a CFExpress card slot and maybe also it's successor on the Mac? This clearly looks terrible! If I would have the choice between any type of card slot and an additional Thunderbolt 4 port, I definitely would choose the TB4 port - no question. It's much more future-proof.

I can kill a fully charged battery on my 16" in an hour as I did in a meeting not so long ago.

All I hope for is a powerful GPU. This is what will make my day [and my pro apps all supporting M properly.......]

bracing to see 8gb ram show up as default. $600 increase to bump to 32gb.

sad to see the touch bar go, i did get use out of it.

hdmi port seems unnecessary. usb-c to hdmi accessories arent expensive or lacking abundance. hdmi port is just large and not a thing one *always* needs to have.

99% percent of cameras still come with SD cards. SD cards are not going away. Apple probably did their research.

oh and I use SD. I bet a lot more people use SD than CFExpress.
The floppy isn't going away. The CD isn't going away. Technology will stop evolving because I like what we already got.
The only thing that will stop evolving, is your ability to understand the concept of the future. In the future everything changes.

Even the [standalone] cameras themselves are going away. They are being replaced with iPhones, or haven't you noticed what's been happening the last 10 years? This evolution is not going to stop. Only a matter of time. Right now you will reject the idea because you resist change, but once everyone around you has adopted it, you will consider it normal and start complaining about the next thing on the way.

It's not technology that isn't evolving, it's ignorance that isn't evolving.

Yes phones have taken over to a degree in photography but the laws of physics cannot be bent when it comes to lenses.

Anyway I agree with you - TB4 ports are the best and most versitile way of adding expansion on the laptops. Apple have always been a little ahead of the curve when it comes to moving forward, and I honestly cannot see them returning, and am quietly hoping the rumours are wrong. It would be amazing to see Apple backtrack on the SD card , HDMI, magsafe and Touch Bar in one launch !

I just pulled the trigger and bought 13” MBP. I figured the new design will only be available on the higher end MBPs and the lower end will get the new design next year with M2 chip refresh.

M1 is more than enough for me. Absolutely blown away by it. Wanted the new design refresh but would have to shell out £1700+ Plus overkill chipset for me
Good call. There will always be something newer and more powerful. In the meantime, you’ll be creating on your new screaming machine.

When your laptop is capable of lasting all day, people don‘t find themselves camping besides power outlets as much. People don’t complain about their iPads not getting magsafe, and with M1, I would argue there is even less of a need for magsafe now.

Magsafe is overrated nowadays, when it was out there were always the "magnet falling off" threads. Cncerns about tripping on wire is so much less due to battery life improvements.

Ideally bringing it back goes along with iPhone embracing now it, along with freeing up a USB-C port isn't a bad thing as long as USBC can still charge as an option. The ability to not be so out of luck at the 11th hour on the road if you forgot your MagSafe is good too.

Or they could take a leaf out of Sony's book and create a slot that can handle both. Like that in the Sony a7S III.

How would you explain the Magsafe charger in the new iMac?

So are we pretty confident that there will not be a macbook with mini led ( well not for the foreseeable anyway). There has been some conflicting information over the few days about this. I for one would love this.
Nobody knows, but I guess it depends on supply chain and price point. We all remember that putting the retina screen in the 12" MacBook kept the price higher than Apple would have liked for quite a few years. miniLED might be too expensive for the Air?

There's been quite a few rumours around the future of the MacBook Air and the possible introduction of another ultra-light laptop, but nothing concrete.

The 16" Intel MBP already comes with 16GB base. Going back to 8GB would be a regression.

It would be really awesome if the 13”-14” would be really Pro and not a Pro wannabe as is being until now

Not saying that no one is still using SD, but for me it would be a wasted port and dust collector that meanwhile most Mac users will already have as an adapter.
Canon dropped 1 of the most popular cameras out right now (Canon C70) across all the major camera companies and it uses SD V90 cards, SD CARD companies can barely keep them in stock. SD is here for a while!
