They used to announce things before as well. You’re butt-hurt about AirPower and HomePod.

Im not butt hurt about anything. I just don’t see a reason to announce something before it’s ready. If Apple has a tv service ready, reveal and release it. If they don’t, then don’t waste our time talking about something that isn’t ready. This doesn’t need to go through a supply chain that will leak parts, likely won’t get a beta test for developers... if I’m wrong about that then I understand but I don’t see why that would be necessary.

Typical Apple. They announce then take years to launch!

-AirPower
-AirPods wireless charging case
-Apple Pay still not available in multiple European Union countries (mine too)
-HomePod restricted to just a few countries
-News and TV app only in US, UK and Australia
-ECG in the US only
And the list goes on.

Meh, cant see this working at all. If Apple Music is anything to go by, outside of the US this'll be pretty much a niche thing. Especially here in the UK where its basically Sky, Cable, Netflix, FTA, Amazon (pretty much everyone I know has Netflix and/or Prime). The (exclusive) content on these platforms combined is something that Apple would have to spend litteral billions of dollars, and 5-10 years competing against to have any hope in hell of getting anywhere.

Most countries that Apple would serve dont have a nearly as poorly executed television service as the US. It's pretty shocking how bad US tv providers are, so it makes it easy for Apple to take a (all be it small) chunk of marketshare there.

They’ve literally never done that with a new product... Ever

You must be pretty new then...like, really, really new. Apple used to never announce a thing until the keynote. That stopped the day they announced the trashcan mac pro as something they were working on for a future release. They did that (wrongly IMO) to quell pretty strong rumors at the time that the Mac Pro was going to be killed off entirely.

Go back pre-2014 when you joined the forums and you'll see.

Did Tim fly to your country to announce the impending release of the services mentioned?
No?
Then I guess “announcing services that take years to launch” is a disingenuous statement, yeah?

No one should be surprised by the wording in this headline. I literally lol at "...But Launch is Months off".

This statement is incorrect. Not only is it incorrect, there has been many times that the product was released the same day and week as it was announced.

I think announcing way before it is actually available is a newer thing, and becoming more common. It may of happened it the past too, but it is happening more and more now.

Prediction:

$9.99 per month including 1 TB iCloud storage, Apple Music, Apple “Netflix” and News.
Yeah right... in wish it was this way, but I doubt it will be under $10.

Apple does both :) They pre-announce when it makes sense in light of their business objectives. Usually, this is related to building buzz when they launch products in a new category: AirPower, AirPods, HomePod, Watch and iMac Pro are recent examples. Like you mentioned, this is relatively recent behavior, for the most part.

re: delays in availability, Apple gives their best estimate of launch time, but are not beholden to schedule. Some MR forum posters like to call this shameful and/or embarrassing, but Apple doesn’t seem to have a problem with it. They have a history of releasing when they’re ready, and not before.
  • AirPower—announced September 2017 for shipment sometime in 2018. Still not shipped, 6 weeks late (and counting).
  • AirPods—announced September 2016 for late October. They shipped in mid-December, 6 weeks late.
  • HomePod—announced June 2017 for December. Shipped in mid-February 2018, 6 weeks late.
  • Apple Watch—Cook teased a new product category in April 2014, then it was announced September 2014 for availability early 2015. It shipped in late April, technically on time since Apple refers to January-April as “early”.
  • iMac Pro—announced June 2017 for December. Shipped on time, though certain configs shipped 6-8 weeks later (14/18 core models).
Apple also pre-announces by popular demand ;) In April 2017, they held a roundtable with some tech reporters regarding their plans for an all-new, modular Mac Pro and their returning to market with new Apple-branded display(s). Stated availability to be “not this year”. In April 2018, Apple updated the schedule, stating the new Mac Pro wouldn’t be released until 2019.

In addition, Apple sometimes just holds events or issues press releases to introduce products without a pre-announcement. In 2018 for example: entry-level iPad, iPad Pro, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, Apple Watch Series 4 and of course IPhone XR/XS/XS Max. These products will typically ship a week after announcement, or a definitive future date that’s relatively soon (e.g. iPhone XR).

Dear Apple, please go back to announcing things only when they are ready to roll out.
I could not agree more. Apple is getting into the habit of announcing things way before their time. In fact, we are still waiting on a couple of announced products that where announced well over a year ago.

Don't forget the next-gen Mac Pro that we are being promised since 2016...

I don't get the fuzz about this "new service" to get so much attention from Apple. I could understand when all of their other products and services were top notch and best in class. But at the moment all their offerings are mediocre at best.

It's chaotic compared to what it was. There was a time you could chose from Good; Better; Best.
Today you can chose from: Old; Older; Oldest and Expensive; More expensive; Outrageous expensive.

Most of apples services don't even work outside the USA and if they work they're a hobby compared to other services.
Why are they going to introduce or announce another half-baked service nobody misses if it weren't introduced at all?

Bring back the focus on good products first instead of another messy fragmentation of half baked offerings.

So how long will it takes to the actual launching of service this time ? Apple begins to get bad habit about announcing and delaying for ages...

There is a name for that: vapourware a tactic that made MicroSoft famous in the good old days. Now Apple is targeting to get vapourware king.

One of the first times that Apple announced a product a relatively long time before it was actually released was the 2013 Mac Pro.

I remember how surprising it was because Apple is usually very secretive when it comes to what and when their products are released. It was announced with the 2012 Mac Pro, which was hardly an update over the 2010.

I guess Mac Pro fans were upset with the lack of a new Mac Pro so Apple teased the 2013 Mac Pro.

who would have thought that the 2013 Mac Pro would still be the only Mac Pro in 2019.....

I’m sure the UK will have to wait a long time for the streaming service and news subscription.

I think AirPower is the only one that’s been extensively delayed. The rest were only a few weeks late. Apple Watch was slated for early 2015 and they held another event before it was released to show it off and again and finalise everything.

Why?

I certainly don’t mind Apple pre-announcing a service or product. Clearly there are excellent reasons Apple chooses to do so.

For sure that isn’t something that will get me frothed up along with a case of the shakes.

Pre-announcing PRODUCTS and SERVICES is not a bad thing. Announcing IDEAS that may never come to fruition is dumb. Makes it impossible to trust future announcements.

Is it real? Are we going to see this released soon? Are we going to wait for eternity?
