The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple is indeed planning on attending the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) for the first time next year. Apple had been rumored to be exhibiting at the 2010 CES shortly after they withdrew from the annual Macworld expo.

The article also reveals that Apple's Steve Jobs has been formally invited to keynote the 2010 CES but has not yet accepted or even responded:
At a dinner with journalists this week in San Francisco, CEA’s Shapiro was asked whether he’s invited Jobs, who recently returned from medical leave, to keynote the show. Yes, Jobs has been asked, but nobody from Apple has gotten back to him, Shapiro said.
Jobs was on medical leave for the first half of 2009 due to complications surrounding his history of pancreatic cancer and he ultimately received a liver transplant. Jobs returned to work in late June and was spotted today on Apple campus.

Oooooo, culture shock. It will be very interesting to seeing Apple go head-to-head with the big boys of CES. Macworld must be upset indeed.

There's Apple, once again biting the hand that fed it when it was down. You know, if I were a MacWorld person, I'd be ticked.

Then again, if Jobs is at CES, I just might go.

feeling kinda sad, drop Macworld and attend CES? I m sure CES has great spotlight, but Macworld is like a culture I guess.... the hometown maybe?

Bout time Apple decided to do this. They will go into CES and turn it into an Apple Event. Going to toe to toe with MS at a show like this will be awesome.
I think it's pretty clear when the release date for an Apple tablet is now.

Hello - I'm a Mac..

Imagine CES making a deal for Jobs and Ballmer to do a parody of the Mac commercials to lead off the show.

Yeah - I know - it'll never happen but it's fun to think of the possibilities lol...

Given the TMZ photo today, I doubt Jobs would want to put himself in a position for all to question his health one more time if he doesn't gain weight between now and January 2010.

Not true. Jobs hasn't accepted the invitation.

And he was asked by Shapiro before and declined.

Texas, unfortunately.
Interesting I suppose.. but what are they doing that for? I thought the point of leaving MacWorld was because they didn't want to have a strict schedule for product announcements. Isn't this just the same thing with a lot more companies involved?

In some ways, I have mixed feelings about Apple at CES. At Macworld, they were the star. At CES, they're going to be one company (with a high profile, granted) amongst many.
I'm hoping that they're displaying at CES, because they want to show off their brand new tablet. That'd be a hell of a way to dominate the CES headlines. :D

I think they will dominate the headlines regardless, the buzz around apple in the media is HUGE right now and they will report anything they can about it. I'm just excited that I might get to see Jobs do a keynote again, theyre just so much fun.
