Those are all things that need to be done. What I really hope comes from this movement to privacy is at least the option put back in to pay for apps instead of it all being freemium. It shouldn’t take much code to do and it gives users the choice of which payment model to use. Let the buyer decide how the developer should be rewarded for their hard work.

It's like doing drugs. In a world of infinite freedom you should be allowed to take them. However it's not allowed for your own good.
As long as you don’t steal, rob, cause pain to others, or call emergency services when things go wrong go for it.

That's simply empty rhetoric masquerading as folksy wisdom. It also has no relevancy in this instance. I mean, how would that be for their own good? A person receiving a reward for allowing ad tracking wouldn't be harmed any more than they've been harmed before 14.5. Remember, we're talking ads here. Ads that have been allowed since forever and a day ago.

I still haven’t seen a single app asking me. Does that mean they never tracked me or did they not implement it yet and are waiting for the last minute?

The apps need to be updated first, if you force app updates on the App Store you should then start to see them.

Apps can also employ a splash screen before the pop-up appears that provides information about what the tracking is used for. These splash screens, however, most use wording like "Continue," "Next," and not "Allow," which may mislead and confuse users, according to Apple.
The new section will be helpful for developers looking to make sure they're up to date with Apple's latest guidelines and can be an exciting read for users looking to learn more about ATT, and the privacy aspects of App Store apps.

I'm pretty sure apps aren't following this? Doesn't facebooks one say allow on it?

I’m actually a bit conflicted. Should I not be allowed to sell my own info? I’m all for transparency and will block every app from tracking me, but shouldn’t I be allowed to decide to share my info with someone who wants to pay for it?
Same. This strikes me as going much too far. What matters here is that users have truly informed consent when they agree to tracking. If they do and want to get paid for that it's their choice and Apple should butt out. I would never chose the to get paid to be tracked personally but if someone wants to it should be their decision, not Apple's.

This is a really bad analogy for a number of reasons. Ads are hardly doing harm to your body as drugs do. Most importantly, Apple should not be in business of deciding what's good for their users on most things, period. They have this attitude far too often and it's one of the most wrongheaded things about the company. I often find it just plain infuriating.

Users should have informed choice on what they do (this is what's great about ATT - it gives users that choice) but the choice should be their's, not Apple's.

Well well well. That will kill the business model (at least on iOS) of companies like Gener8 or Brave, based on rewards given in exchange for allowing tracking.
Brave never tracked users it was all served locally prior to Apple wanting the payments removed. Now its just a ad/fingerprinting resistant browser or you can view the ads to donate to sites but the income option is gone. Still the best day to day browser I've used on ios.

I came to the forum to make this exact point! One the big arguments is that companies and making all this money from data and the user isn’t, i wouldn’t agree for the value you’d get to sell mine but i’m not sure I feel that we should stop others.. there’s an argument that is creates a two tier system of those who can afford the “luxury” of protect data and those who can’t, i’m on the fence on this one and will be interested to see whats said on this.

Then others can set their phone to allow tracking. It may be beneficial if you could specify companies that can and can’t track you but that is probably difficult because a single person could have hundreds of allow/block options.

I'm a little surprised that the Facebook iOS/iPadOS app has not yet asked me to track in 14.5, which I installed yesterday. Has anybody else noticed that some apps are not throwing the prompt -- especially apps that were expected to? My privacy settings are definitely set for apps to ask.

Apple to developers:

"
- don't do X
- don't do Y
- don't do Z
...
"

Repeat and add new restrictives rules every week.
Developers have become Apple's bitches.

Lol. Advertisers getting desperate and finally paying people to be tracked which honestly, is how it should have been all along. These leeches tracked everything we did and every location we've been to for over a decade and made trillions of dollars on our backs without paying us a dime and disguising their behavior with 'free' Tetris ripoff games.

Make them suffer. Some people don't mind giving up their privacy but they should receive cold hard cash in exchange for it.

If third-party platforms other than the App Store are allowed, the impact of these restrictions on the App Store will be lessened and users will not be protected from apps that collect data.
Apple is using the chilling effect on the App Store to curb evil like FaceBook.

I do agree. I think they can "tone" it down. I think they should maybe only reject apps if accepting app tracking is the only means of unlocking app functionality or app content. If it's for like 50 extra coins a day for candy blitz whatever game then fine.
