The iPhone 5 is already awesome in my opinion. The problem isn't the phone. It's the freaking OS.

I totally agree with you on this one. Honestly, this year almost everyone is anticipating a HUGE improvement in the OS. I seriously think if Apple just doesn't update the hardware and simply goes with a groundbreaking iOS 7, they will win the market for at least an extra year, even with just the iPhone 5 itself.

People will attack Apple regardless of a top tier revamped iOS 7.

They will bombard them with criticism, saying the new features they bring forth should have been implemented years ago, and that they are not innovating etc.

(I am of course assuming they bring more simplicity to iOS 7, widgets, features, or easier ways of using the operating system).

The 5S can't come fast enough for my wife who had her 4S stolen a few months ago. She's been hobbling along on my old Android. Actually, I'll be getting the 5S and she'll get my 5. :D

meh

unless it supports payments, wireless charging, or graphene ****, no one really cares.

Software is all that matters.

Also I didn't think they needed full multi-tasking but am changing my mind on that.
At least they should make their current implementation of multi-tasking to work. They say apps can download stuff in background, but Safari never does that and it's really annoying to keep it open for a minute or so on slow network while it loads a page.

It's going to be called iPhone 5G, G for gaming along with the "squashed" controller #
Or just iPhone 5S and iveOS 7- lets hope we see invited to an apple media event soon. It's been a while since we had something to look foward to in iLand

It's all about the software this year. Apple better come out guns a blazing because we know Google will be in May when it unveils KLP.

They'd better deliver something to make me optimistic about or...I'm done with iOS. I'm not a fan of having to jailbreak and not update anymore. That's the main drawback of google, right? Waiting for a release of software?

Also you need to jailbreak to install some things. Though it's called "rooting" and is more easily done. Says a lot about the ability to exploit the system, doesn't it?

thats ridiculous. who has ever said they are the Ferrari of the tech world, let alone what Apple has said. how many bloody students own a Ferrari?

Well if you're from Asian your parents are rich and you're studying in the US and you happen to show up the Ferrari dealership realizing the same car is only a quarter of the price at home. Yeah you have a lot of students driving Ferraris. :p

Agree

I totally agree...I went to android a while ago. There are things I miss about iOS but constantly jailbreaking isn't one of them. I have a note 2 and LOVE the big screen. I can't see myself using anything smaller than a 5 inch screen. As for updates, it depends on the phone and carrier. Definitely a drawback of android.

I just wish Apple would go for the bigger screen size. NO, 4 inches isn't big (TWSS). Stretching out the phone was nonsense. They should have just gone to 5 and just made the devs deal with it.

Money for nothing chicks for free.

Ferrari did start making a lower cost car with the California.

However, I definitely get your point.

Motor Trend magazine sez: Roughly 8000 Californias have been sold to
date, with 30 percent coming Stateside. At slightly more than $200K a pop, the state-of-the-art production campus in Maranello has been humming along to meet demand for the least-expensive
Ferrari.

Over 200K US a pop is "lower cost" for someone I guess........

I don't really understand the fuss about this alleged low cost iPhone. It wouldn't be the first time that Apple would make a low end product. Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't the iPod nano be seem as a low end iPod touch? Or the former MacBook white a low end product of the MacBook line? Cheaper product aren't the same crappy ones.

Cheaper iPhone just sounds like the dumbest idea ever. Apple wants to be known as the Ferrari of the technology industry. Ferrari would never announce a cheap Ferrari.

Yeah, dumbest idea ever to try and access the billions of people in this world whose phones aren't subsidized by their carriers and/or who can't afford to drop $600+ on a cell phone.

This phone is not being made for the US market. It might be sold here at some point but that's not why it's being made.

Where did you get your business degree?

I think a lot of kids here object to a supposed cheaper made phone, because they are hung up on the status symbol mentality.

If Apple does go this route, so what. That could translate into more market consumption.

How much can Apple really save by going with a plastic back. Couple bucks a phone?

You mean BMW doesn't make different cars at different price points? Or Mercedes? Or Lexus? Or Infiniti? Or Audi? Or Jaguar? Or Range Rover? Bad analogy.

$2 per phone x 100 million phones = $200 million dollars additional profit. That's a big deal.

Apple doesn't need new hardware...

To re-make the iPhone, Apple doesn't need stunning new hardware. What Apple needs, and can do rather easily, is give iOS 7 a stunning makeover that will make your crappy old iPhone 4 seem new again. Keeping iOS stale over the last five years has actually given Apple a potential advantage. By giving iOS a radical makeover, it will make every iPhone look new again. Even an iPhone 5 on Apple's own web site will look markedly different with sufficient changes to iOS app grids, home screen, etc.
