For those of you that still use physical wallets, what do you store in them?

My main credit card (as there are still quite a few places that don’t accept Apply pay, especially restaurants- at least in the US), my drivers license (a digital one is great, but if I get pulled over for whatever reason I’m sure as hell not giving the cops my phone), my car registration (since I don’t want to just leave that in the car, as it makes a hell of a lot easier to steal), and my health insurance card (even though I have my health insurance card on my phone, I carry it just in case - if you’re not from the US you probably don’t need to worry about it, since most places have universal healthcare, but the US is still ass backward when it comes to that).

It's great that it works with Find My, but do you need to create a Chipolo account or otherwise use a Chipolo app to use it?

FWIW, I just setup the eufy SmartTrack card without using eufy’s app and it works fine in find my.

Wait...you don't? Guessing you have a digital driver's license then? Which state allows you to not carry the physical one anymore? As far as I know, all the states that have digital IDs still require you to carry your physical one.

UWB has nothing to do with the 'left behind' notifications. It has more to do with the precision finding feature. The 'left behind' feature simply just uses the location of your phone to see if it's moving away from the reported location of the tag. (I've got a few AirTags and don't get the notification until I'm half a block away or way on the other side of an airport.)

According to Chipolo's site, 'Notify When Left Behind' can be turned on for the CARD Spot.

Article says it requires iOS 15 - maybe that was it. I was using iOS 14 at the time (early last summer), but it definitely had a message about being unsupported when I tried to enable separation alerts. I had proper Apple Airtags at the time also paired to my phone and it would work with those.

Excellent — just the right size to tape to the back of my iPhone. Then, when I lose it, all I have to do is open “Find My” on my phone and … oh, wait.

The question I have is will this work in wallets that block RFID? I'm guessing no, but I don't want to spend $30 just to test it.

That is a good question. I have a couple RFID wallets from Waterfield. Anyone out there used this device inside a RFID wallet?

I've now had 3 of these cards and sent them all back and finally asked for a full refund. Either the chirped every time I sat down, or they stopped working after a few months. One time I was in FL with my wallet and and the card, and it said the wallet was back home in Denver. Not a great product.

Yes, exactly my experience (and my wife's). "This item was left behind" notifications when it was inches from my phone and was that way for hours really did it for me. At that point, it is worse than totally useless, it is false alarming to the point I never will trust it.

Disappointed to hear some people’s Cards were not working well!

I bought one for myself and my girlfriend the day they launched and haven’t had any issues. Outside of the lack of UWB support, they work as well as our AirTags.

Granted, neither of us sit on our wallets- so it sounds like that may be the Achilles heel of this thing.

One thing to note- the battery is supposed to last up to 2 years and although there is no user replaceable battery, you can send in your dead one and receive a new one at 50% off which isn’t too bad.
My wife has never sat on her wallet and I carry mine in my front pocket or my messenger bag exclusively. Both of ours would never stop claiming we had left them behind when they were literally inches from our phones. Consistently. Worse than useless: they flat out lie to you.

Looks like a solid option for wallet carriers.
Sure, replacement every 2 yrs is not ideal, but ffs, it's not like it can last forever. Their discounted replacement + recycling program seems a fair way to address battery limitations while remaining a functional business.

What would be cool, and I'm not sure this is even possible in such a thin form factor, is if CARD Spot was wirelessly rechargeable. Just drop it on your MagSafe charger from time to time and be good.

You're missing the point, I think. It's meant to track items such as luggage, keys, etc, rather than a person. This one particularly is for your wallet, so I can see how it would effectively track a person, but that's not the perspective these things were created from.
"that's not the perspective these things were created from", is exactly how we progressively lose our freedoms.

I had the Chipolo Card Spot in my wallet, which I keep in my back pocket. I was surprised one day when I went to "Find My" to add an AirTag that the Card Spot had last been "seen" three days ago - despite being with me! It just quietly died without any notification. Also, since its lacking UWB like Apple's AirTag, you cannot enable left behind notifications that might have helped.

Another downside is that it was frequently beeping and making noises when I'd sit down - the Card Spot has a button on it unlike Apple's Airtag.

I had used a Tile Slim Tracker for years in the same wallet. It too had the beeping problem, but it lasted years vs 22 days for the Chipolo.
I avoid all that kind of fun by carrying an airtag in the coin purse of my wallet.

The gas stations near my house have disabled touch pay systems on their pumps. So I still need to carry cards for some things. But since I only need to fill up my volt a few times per year, it’s not that big a deal. Also some stores still seem to refuse to use Apple Pay in lieu of their weird app based payment system.

I have the wallet one and it worked great for 3-4 months and then it just started being awful. It's in the house, it's last location is in the house, but then when I try to make a sound on it using "Find My" it doesn't connect no matter how close I am to it. Battery also can't be changed but I knew that going in.

Driver's license, pilot's license, racing license, a facility access card, CCW permit, PBA card, insurance cards, credit card, cash, Metro card (NY/NJ Path not contactless yet, still rely on card for that) ... and AirTag!

If you walk around with a smartphone you already have a tracking device in you. Also if you live in a big city there are cameras tracking everything.

Driver’s license (Ohio doesn’t have digital yet), CC’s (not everything is contactless), insurance cards (health, vision, dental, prescription - providers want a physical card), HSA debit (again, no contactless) and cash (some places I frequent are cash only)
Yeah, I can't think of any place on earth where digital social and commercial interactions are completely ubiquitous. One can do it if they are willing to narrow down their points of daily interaction to just those that accommodate them, but that is usually a much smaller and more limited subset of what is available or, in most cases, what is necessary. These days it may even be prudent to carry cash to make it through a weekend just in case your bank fails and gets taken over by the feds.

It's also really hard to make it rain at the Cheetah Club with Apple Pay.

Been using two of these since they became available for pre-order after they were announced. No complaints. Over a year now. As with any of these wallet trackers, there's always a false "left behind" message every so often. However that aside, this has helped me find a lost wallet a couple times. As well as my partners wallet. One of the best ones I have tried.

A lot more that can fit in the useless Apple MagSafe wallet!

Driver‘s License - because hardly any states offer digital ones
Transit Card - because so many systems still rely strictly on physical cards
Medical Insurance Card - because who knows if an EMT can access the digital one in my Apple Wallet or not
Credit Card - because so many places don’t have Apple Pay
Debit Card - because we still need cash now and again
Cash - see above

That’s 6 things. MagSafe Wallet holds max. 3 items - and if you stuff 3 items in there, good luck getting them out quickly when you need them.

MagSafe Wallet only works in the Apple dreamland of the all-digital life.
