Beautifully put. The company isn't in financial trouble with him at the helm. But a certain spark seems missing - excitement.
I'd say it's all about no longer having exciting products.

All products they (and all the copycats) have are matured and Apple can only spec improve or launch smaller or larger sizes of the same. (Again, like everybody else)
Some are not for everybody: aWatch
With the way business works now, they will not be able to ever keep secrets again.

Don't think an excited Steve would make a difference right now.

Why not? Wasn't that his greatest talent? To see beyond what we have already? I mean that was his whole deal. Tim Cook doesn't have that kind of vision. He's to worried about what Hollywood thinks of him.

Do you go to the car dealership and bitch about the high end model of a car getting all the features??

You HAVE the option to buy the better iPhone just like everyone else. Stop crying.

Except in a car if I want a better feature I can get it without getting a bigger car.
Me: "I want a reverse camera",
Dealer: "Sorry that only comes in the Van"

I don't mind paying more for the better feature. I just don't want a huge phone I can't easily work with one hand.

I hope they really do improve the camera - I'm not impressed with my 6S+ camera since it seems to be doing the "painted" effect like my LG G3 did.

exactly! Its not the money, its forcing that gargantuan phone on me.

Tim is a financial guy who ended up in the Steve jobs role.

Obviously financial guys have not been known to be creative visionaries for products, although they can get creative with taxes, numbers etc.

So, why are we faulting Tim for something he is not and cannot be?
He was not hired for that.

What I do not see (and that is because it is not that easy to come by) is an Apple hire of a visionary type of person.
These "types" are all doing their own thing (like Elon Musk for example) and would probably disturb Apple's business sleep more than help.

We fault him because he accepted the job. That gives us every right to now fault him.

Personally my problem with Cook is that he uses Apple for his own political soap box and he caters the company to Hollywood. With Jobs it was the other way around. He kept his private matters private and didn't cater to anyone. Im also annoyed that after all this time certain things have not been fixed. I hate Apples approach to the cloud (Jobs didn't do any better here). I hate things like AirDrop still sucking. If you're not going to be overly innovative at least put some money into polishing up what you already have, ya know?

It is complete BS that only the "plus" models get camera upgrades, I am becoming less and less of an :apple: fan as of late.

The only difference between the 6/6s and 6+/6s+ cameras is OIS. Otherwise, they received the same camera upgrades. You're statement makes no sense.

Also, the 6+ series is much bigger, there's more room to add physically larger camera modules. I've had a 6 and a 6s+ and the cameras are both great.

Referring to the car dealership and the high end model analogy, it is unfortunately off. As others have referenced you can get a car with all the options or none of the options, but the car is the same.

A more accurate comparison would be truck sizes. The basic truck concept is the same, but single cab (smaller) vs quad cab (larger) can differentiate things a little. The single cab may be perfect for one person, while someone else needs the "too big" quad cab because they like the extra room. You wouldn't complain that the single cab only has one row of seats, demanding they put two rows in because the quad cab has 2 rows! Similarly, you can get different weight ratings, a heavy duty (larger) truck may have some options available due to more available power. For example, a gooseneck or fifth-wheel hitch might be usable in the larger truck because it has a higher towing capacity than the smaller truck does. (Forgive me if smaller trucks can use those hitches, I just know they are usually used for larger loads and the larger trucks have more towing capacity.)

Taking that analogy to the iPhone, the larger iPhone Plus has more room for components. This means there may be features that cannot physically fit inside the smaller, so demanding that you fit the same components in a smaller space just doesn't make sense. Furthermore, the Plus has a larger battery, so if a second camera lens (or any other feature) takes up more battery power that drops battery life below a determined threshold, then I could see it being left out of the smaller phone to promote better battery life, while the larger battery in the Plus may still allow it.

That being said, I think they should keep the features as close to the same between the model *as reasonably possible*. If there is a feature that currently won't fit or work with the smaller form factor but will in the larger, I say go for it. Hopefully in time the components will shrink and it will be able to be put in the smaller phones, but until then saying the larger phone shouldn't get anything the smaller phone doesn't is just selfish and ridiculous. It would be like saying the quad cab truck can have more room, but you don't get an extra row of seats because the single cab truck doesn't have it.

Keep in mind, the iphone 6s plus got the optical image stabilization while the 6s did not. So it's not unreasonable to believe that the 6s plus will get the new dual camera while the 6 will not. But who knows. Supposedly this technology actually makes the camera depth smaller, so perhaps it will. Again, this is all rumor & speculation to begin with, so we aren't even sure it's true, or if true that any of the iphone 7's will get the dual camera. Maybe it won't be ready until the 7s or 8. Only 8 more months to find out. Patience.

Yes, always easy to criticize people without being in their shoes.

As for what is not working, I am wondering how Apple cannot see it. idisk, .mac and icloud have been disasters compared to the competition. Never mind ping LOL)
I have used Apple products since the first MAC in 1984 and while I am not the end all of all users, I find that when I do not use a certain service or app (I try before I judge) they are not up to MY Apple standards.
iTunes and app store logins are ridiculous and the fact that we can't combine accounts.
For some things to work (find my phone) they force you to log into iCloud.
Then my old login no longer is accepted and I have to figure out that despite changing it , it doest't work.
Even mail irks me after OSX upgrades and I have to hunt online what they f'd up now.
Better communication in what's new rather than "improves stability and security" would be nice at times.
Don't mind doing things differently, but let us know just every once in a while.

Also, I am not sure if the constant dropping of ports is always necessary. We have so much stuff to connect
that forcing us to buy multiplier docks is more annoying that having a 1 mm thicker device.

I can't comment on Hollywood or politics, which leaves me ice cold, just as religion does.

We are only living on earth a limited time, to begrudge others in what they do is a waste of time.
Easier trying to figure out how to be happy. That alone isn't really easy:)

I hope they're also testing OIS for the regular iPhone 7. It's sad that it's not yet a standard feature in 2016.

I keep waiting for them to start testing 1/8" headphone jacks for the iPhone 7.

Yeah I think this is a b*tch move from Apple, too. I understand they want to charge extra for extra features, but why making them available only on a phablet version which is not for everybody?

Do rant that Apple is not making some impossible product just to displease you....
The 6s already has a much less battery life than the 6s+, if they can't go to 10nm this year (probable) and thus not getting much better efficiency, you'd be OK losing possibly 1h of battery life for that much bigger camera?

With optics, you need space, and yes, smaller phones have less space. With an increase in efficiency in the 7s, you may get the same thing (but I'd bet it would come in the 8 instead).

The dual lens rumour is the one that I find the most believable.

1. It follows the parallax trend that is finding its way into new Apple products (iPhone perspective wallpapers, AppleTV covers).

2. It's a marketable product differentiator like TouchID and 3D Touch.

3. It enables a thinner camera module, allowing a path for increasingly thinner iPhones going forward. They already hit the limit on the single sensor camera.

4. There's a verifiable record of Apple buying a company with the technology.

My head is spinning after reading this, but then I never bought a truck.
I did get hitched a few times though.

A bit late in the year to be sending samples, no? I don't believe it's going to be included in the 7 series. If this does end up being true for the 8, and the wireless at a distance also ends up being true, that would be a heck of a iPhone 8 release.
Or it is for iPhone 7 and the report is bogus on its claims of timing .

Idiotic publicity strategy of Tim. On the name of rumors and brand name they try to gain hype of the product, reveal Apple's secret (so that competitors can take benefit of it), making an image of regular phone company like every other phone companies who are hungry for attention by own leaked news and most importantly killing the actual thrill and importance of Keynote! Steve was fighting so hard to hide everything till the he himself announce the product. And here is this guy, who dont want to take headache of announcement. "Let users already know everything when I announce the product, so that I dont have to explain much :D".

Sadly It is certainly un-Apple!
Its not to Tims advantage to use these leaks as publicity stratagey as they will surly hurt the sales of the present lineup.
These are either leaks or speculation.. Imho

I'd guess a lot has to do with space for new features. Packing two flush mounted camera lenses in a smaller phone may not be feasible.

It not be a reasonable request, if the space doesn't allow for it. If you wanted a third row of seats in your car, you couldn't go with the sedan you had in mind, you'd have to upgrade to an SUV or minivan.

I think that's a better analogy here, since the size differences may very well prevent feature parity.

That being said, I totally LOL'd when I read the pretend conversation in your post. :D
