When is it absurd for a large company to screw every last penny out of it's customers and make a profit? :D;)

LOL. Ok, it's absurd from a customer's point of view. It's pretty much a game of semantics as to whether matte is an upgrade (for which an additional charge is justified) or a downgrade (for which it certainly is not). From Apple's point of view, take the money and run if people are willing to pay for it.

Ok rather semantic in nature and agree that it's not an upgrade but should be an option/choice for consumer! Question? How much more or less does it cost Apple to make a screen "glassy" or "matte". Is it just Apple charging image professionals etc just for being fussy? Is it a "Creatives" Tax?:D

How much would it cost in Euros, shipping included? Sadly enough, I suspect it's too much after import tax...

Could always declare it below proper Value. (Like $500NZ... or $0) GST is already payed but you guys have Vat aye? I'm not sure about import/export tax. Ill have to ask NZPost.

Im pretty sure it would work with European Sims, most phones support any GSM Sim. "iPhone 3G & iPhone 3GS purchased at the Apple Online Store can be activated with any wireless carrier. Simply insert the SIM from your current phone into iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS and connect to
iTunes 8.2 to complete activation.2 Purchase limitations may apply."

iPhone 3G 8GB $950.00NZD, 449.647 Euros
iPhone 3GS 16GB $1,149.00, 543.836 Euros
iPhone 3GS 32GB $1,349.00, 638.498 Euros

Ill be getting one soon so I can try my Cousin's Irish Vodafone PrePay sim. (Hopefully Ill have one soon)

We don't know for certain, but there is likely a coating on the screen that is not present on the glass MBP's, and there is probably labor involved for which they have to pay extra since it would be outside of the usual assembly line (either the computers would have to be pulled out of the line before the glass is placed on the display, or the glass would have to be removed from one that already had it on there). Is it $50 worth? Probably not. Then again, the machine doesn't cost Apple $1999 either. It's a reasonable charge, since it's not simply swapping one part for a virtually identical one.

Are you sure about that? Where did you hear it'd be any different to the 17" MBP matte finish, which has no glass?

Let's wait for the reviews first

Well, I can't say I'm as enthused about this as I would have been a year ago. I'm a Windows 7 convert now (because of the glossy screens) but will consider the new MBP (because I've invested a ton of money in Mac OS Apps over the last couple of years) if the reviews are as positive as for the latest-gen glossy panel.

Huh? Of course it doesn't have glass. The 17" MBP has a anti-glare coating applied to the screen, which is not present on the 17" MBP that has the glass. Same with the 15" MBP, we can safely assume.

Sorry I think I got the wrong end of the stick when you mentioned coatings (for some reason I read coatings to mean that the only change was a coating on the glass). Yes, my expectation was also the traditional matte finish known and loved to generations of Mac users prior to the Unibodies.
