I know that a lot of credit cards are offering purchase protection including lost. I wonder if, say, "losing one side of AirPod" would be eligible for a claim?
Most likely, yes. AMEX will have you get the service done and then reimburse you but this only works for the first 90 days for lost or stollen. Warranty wise, AMEX adds a year to manufacture warranty.

Now, an event that happens all the time if you take the subway (people bumping into you), or run outside can cost you $69. LOL. Biggest joke of a product Apple has come out in a long time.

But oh wait I know what people will tell me "don't bump into people" or "move to Montana" or "just don't seek human contact"

Or, if someone bumps in to you, and in the off chance it comes out you bend down and pick it up. Dropping things on a subway and it falling into a black hole isn't a common problem that I'm aware of.

Many people have mentioned that these actually stay in a lot better than the wired ones, which I've personally never had fall out unless the wire has been snagged on something.

Total ******* ripoff.

Tim Cook is a joke. The sooner he is fired, the sooner they can get someone in there to save Apple.

How this incompetent has lasted this long is beyond belief.

Boy, I'd have loved to see your reaction when they announced the $1000 extra for a 64GB SSD in the first-gen MacBook Air.

Great first post, by the way. I'm sure we're going to see some fabulous objectivity from you in the future.

Same price for repair vs lost? Looks like they couldn't be bothered to think about this pricing at all.

Probably because they'll do the same thing for both: give you a new one. Not much an Apple tech will be able to do in store to repair a broken AirPod, so if you bring one in they will probably give you a new one and just send the broken one off the Apple to be refurbished or something. Just speculating, though.

It's a ripoff to offer a reasonably priced option to purchase half of a whole item in the chance you're irresponsible and lose one of your AirPods?
Right! People will complain about anything here. This is a big reason I usually don't post here.

For those complaining, please name another manufacturer that will offer anything like this for replacement if lost. Also, please share where online you expressed the same vitriol for the president of that company.

I know I shouldn't feed the trolls but I was actually happy Apple has a replacement option out of the gate and the trolls here just **** all over it.

You know what would be easier? If they were somehow connected so if one comes out, my $160 pair of headphones dont disappear and I'm crawling around the subway floor looking for it like some kind of bonobo. Ill give you an example. I rarely drop my phone but just yesterday I fell asleep on the subway and it fell out of my hand and slid downwards since the bottom of the car isn't totally flat. I kept looking under my seat to find it but couldn't. Luckily the woman sitting in front of me found it and gave it to me.

As for them fitting easier, that's pretty subjective since people's ears have slight variations.

Or just don't buy them.
True but I suspect these will be the norm once the new phone comes out next year. Then what

At least they offered an option to just buy one.

I agree and understand that there is a convenience factor to having them connected. They are going to be offering the one pair of beats that offer the W1 and are connected (I forget which ones they are), so that might be a better option for someone in your situation.

There are always options, this is just one of them. From what I've read (and just to say, I'm not actually getting a pair) these are a great pair of headphones for the price. Not necessarily in the sound department, but in their function and ease of use, as well as compared to other wireless headphones.

^^ This

I got sucked into the Ipod Touch 3 back when it came out. The Ipod Touch 4 was an instabuy. The IpT5 wasn't really on my radar, but I decided to reward myself for a life milestone, and I did enjoy the improvements. When the IpT6 came out, I decided to ride out my IpT5, and decide where to go iOS-wise when that dies.

If you suspect these will come packed with the iPhone, you suspect wrong, and even if you suspected right, Apple would be offering $159 buds to iPhone buyers, that you’re still totally free not to use, because the Lightning port will not stop working by some magic.

what do you expect? what would happen if you lost your phone? expected it to be cheap? if they cost 159 then why would 69 be a ripoff? it's expected

don't lose your stuff and there is no issues.
