I have a 6 and just got a 6S in last week. I'm returning it. The extra RAM does not affect my usage and the camera is not what I'd call a vast improvement. Live Photos and the front facing camera flash are software upgrades and should have been part of iOS 9 for iPhone 6 users at least, but they're gimmicks to me. I've not yet seen force touch to be worthwhile. Hoping the 7 is a worthwhile upgrade this fall, otherwise I'll keep my 6 for another year. I did the same with the iPhone 4; didn't get another iPhone until the 5S.

I also purchased the 6S Plus and played with it for about 12 days before deciding to return it for a full-priced refund. The added gimmicks do not justify spending the $949 for the latest & greatest... The extra RAM was noticeable, but because I had the "Samsung" processor (not the more efficient alternative which was in some), my battery life was horrible, compared to my 6 PLUS. I am happy abou the return and will await the 7 PLUS!

I'm still using an iPhone 6 Plus, but (for those using a 6S) was Force Touch and a better camera vast improvements for you to have upgraded? And how's the extra RAM helping you?
The iPhone 6S is the first Apple product I've ever regretted buying. Just my own personal feeling, I'm not suggesting Apple is doomed.

I've learned over the last couple of years that supply chain rumors, especially at this time of year, are usually garbage.

EDIT: Also, I do not find 3d Touch or Live Photos gimmicky at all. 3D Touch is GREAT for its camera features, logging food into MyFitnessPal, and all kinds of other stuff. And my vacation photos from vacation with my family are so much fun to look at with the extra animation. Some of them accidentally turned out super cool because of Live Photos.

The 6 sold too well. All that pent-up demand for the bigger screen couldn't be matched this time around.

Or maybe the 6s is just too thick.
This is something people should think about.

I personally do not agree with those stating that the iPhone 6s is a little improvement over the iPhone 6, but it's just that the iPhone 6 had incredible sales numbers. Most people upgraded last year and just don't want to do this every year.

I still think the iPhone 6s will sell very well. Just not as good as the iPhone 6. And that's totally fine. Would be the first time to see Apple not saying they've got a record quarter for the iPhone, but I'm pretty sure their revenue will be higher compared to last year.

The reason I think that, is because the new iPhones are a little more expensive. Also, two iPads have been released (heck, it could've been a decent quarter for that category), and the iPad Pro is really an expensive device. The iPad mini 4 might not make a huge difference, but I have no doubt it sells better than the previous model. And last, there's of course the new Apple TV. I hope Apple will give us some insight in the sales number of that one, by the way. Very sure it's been a record quarter for the Apple TV.

So yes, less iPhones might have been sold. But more revenue could have been made. And hey, maybe they HAVE sold more iPhones than ever before. You should not underestimate the power of selling older iPhones. I think both the iPhone 5s and 6 could have done very well last quarter. A lot people in my area have bought one of these two recently. And not just here, but in many other countries as well. :p

I sold my 6 and bought a 6S because of the fact that I was eligible for an upgrade, the upgraded camera and I had seen Youtube videos that show the 6S being tougher.

Once I got it I appreciated the fact that the Touch ID was faster and more seamless, and that the RAM increased browsing speeds. But the main reason I kept it was the 3D Touch keyboard that makes it very easy to move my cursor around in emails and documents. Sounds weird, but I find it to be a great time and frustration saver.

Nothing wrong with keeping a 6 until later this year, though.

It's an S model. Most of us have contracts ending this year. Sales for the 7 will pick up again.

The 6/6S cameras are what drove me to get a DSLR. The photos look amazing on the screen, but you zoom in at all, any fine detail is lost to noise reduction. I'd rather have snowy details than blotchy smoothness.

The RAM and Touch ID though should be HUGE improvements. My iPad Air 2's ram is incredible. I always have that app anxiety when I leave a game or safari to do something in another app for even a moment on my iPhone 6, which shouldn't' be the case for a premium smartphone. Since Touch ID is how you get into your device, the faster the better.

Oh I agree, they cannot replace a DSLR by any means. The noise reduction hasn't been the same since the 5S I think, but for a pocket camera, I'm very pleased.

Here is me hoping they are going to introduce another iPhone that will compete with the current line up.

I going to keep my iPhone 6 until 8 comes out. I bet then it'll be worth it.

I absolutely agree. The only thing is that many of those people who upgrade because of a cracked screen or bad battery don't get the newest flagship model. I know several people (anecdotal evidence means nothing, but still) that went with the 5S or 6 vs the 6S just for price.

Still, one thing Apple has going for it is that "new iPhone" hype. I don't know how much longer it can sustain, but many people upgrade just to upgrade.

Yeah, no doubt it's a challenge for Apple to get users to upgrade every year. I think the iPhone upgrade program will help. I signed up for it... I felt like it was a good value and a convenient way to get the latest and greatest.

It certainly won't cost me any more than upgrading every 2 years which is what most people I know do now.

Does anyone offer two year contracts anymore? I think this will be your last two year contract.
This... Plus it would be silly to think that, the few people who are left on 2 year contracts, aren't on an S cycle... Which was my case before leaving my contract behind.

I think phone sales are going to slow a bit due to carriers switching from subsidized two-year contracts to installment plans. Upgrading is no longer the impulse purchase of less then $200. It's more like a computer/laptop purchase.

I had one relative who was amazed his iPad was cheaper than his iPhone, and I had to tell him the cellular part of the iPhone is pretty expensive. I wonder if these trends are the reason Apple may be pursuing the rumored cheaper 6C option mid-cycle?

It's just too pricey, I can easily afford to buy an iPhone 6S but I won't because over the years buying a new iPhone got more and more expensive.
€750 for a 16 Gb 6S is just too much.

Agreed. And I won't replace my phone until it is 100% unusable.

The whole phone purchasing process has changed significantly. I suspect the more in your face costs will delay some in purchasing but, mostly it will take sometime to allow the process of upgrades to adjust to the new purchasing plans.

The price has increased by almost 30% due to the rise of USD and fall of NZD. When I bought the iPhone 6 Plus 128GB it was close to $1349NZD, this year when I bought the iPhone 6S Plus 128GB it was $1799.

I'm sure this applies to many other countries.

Between the 6 and 6S models I have there's so little difference it just doesn't matter. I have a feeling this truth has escaped to the mainstream buyers. I know I certainly cannot recommend the S series.

You've got to be an Apple devotee to care. Or someone who isn't happy unless they have the latest. At Apple's nearly obscene prices, it's a heavy hit for so little.

Thought all the iPhone 6S sales and promotions during December would have helped reduce inventory. Guess not if this story is true. We'll find out how sales were in 3 weeks.
