My 3rd gen Apple TV from 2012 still does what I need to do.

If the thing just provides AirPlay... However, it'll never support AirPlay 2, 4K, HEVC, apps and whatever new they come up with, in a word, limited.

Hope it has a new remote!

I think the current remote is excellent. Certainly, light years ahead of Samsung's and Philip's remotes.

3D is not dead. People not caring about what they consume is true.

It's dead. Even the TV manufacturers recognise that.

These charts are stupid and not at all reflective on people's REAL world personal experiences. I wish this dumb meme would die already. I have a 55 inch 4K UHD and can see the difference perfectly fine.

Yeah... if you sit close enough.

If only there was a way to check that? Oh there is? http://realorfake4k.com/my-product/oblivion/

It is not real 4K in any material way due to having a final master at 2K. Studios have upscaled the 2K image to 4K and retouched the content for your 4K UHD TV. You should see some visual improvement over a standard 1080p Blu-ray. Check the information below to see if the studios have upgraded the video with HDR or added immersive Dolby Atmos or DTS:X audio tracks.
  • Shot in 4K and 5K
  • VFX Rendered in 2K
  • Digital Intermediate at 2K*

Saying I am wrong doesn't make you right.

Here is the definition from a dictionary:

a measure of the sharpness of an image or of the fineness with which a device (such as a video display, printer, or scanner) can produce or record such an image usually expressed as the total number or density of pixels in the image a resolution of 1200 dots per inch

If you stop and think about it, it is the ability to resolve detail.

If I have a 2 by 2 square, I can draw 1 vertical line with gap to the side. I can resolve 1 line of detail
If I have a 4 by 4 square, I can draw 2 vertical lines with a gap to the side. I can resolve 2 lines of detail

If there were 4 times the resolution I would have been able to resolve 4 lines of detail but I can, there is only 2 times the resolution.

Perhaps you should stop and think before criticising people and try to answer using facts.

You also mention that 2 x 2 = 4, you are correct. Multiplying by 2 gives you double, twice...

Don't conflate total pixel count and resolution.

I understand what you're saying. But resolution is the surface area, not just the number of pixels that measure the width and height. You're talking about linear resolution (vertical or horizontal resolution). 2K contains roughly 2,211,840 pixels (2048x1080), 4K contains roughly 8,847,360 pixels (4096x2160). Or if we're taking 1080p vs UHD then it's 2,073,600 and 8,294,400. 4x!

This is an article of an interview with the cinematographer where he says specifically that they captured in Sony 4K RAW format but decided to master the movie in 2K. I think he mentions something about visual effects being the main issue. He does go into great detail about certain technical aspects so it’s a pretty cool read if you have the time.

I don't, but if that's the case then there will never be 4k due to visual effects

Who said they are the same size and it's a stupid subjective argument to begin with. You be you, leave the rest of us alone.

There's a reason why billboard ads are printed with relatively low DPI... The same applies to 4k TV when viewed from far enough to make it a pointless purchase. This isn't up for debate thus not sure why you're complaining about it.

You should see the lines at the local Walmart registers. Vertical and horizontal.
Easily twice as long with no resolution in sight.

They clearly have to increase the number of available pixies at the registers.
4 times as many would be great and we'd get out of there real fast.

As for 4K at the current prices it's more like screaming than streaming.
I have seen UHD displayed at the local Sam's Club and they seem to show always the same video with some guys riding camels through some ruins.

Anyway, I can't get into 4K , UHD and all (Yet).
Not enough space for the camels in my living room.

Sorry, guys, couldn't resist: FRIDAY! YAY!!!

Still wondering why they can't combine the aTV with a mini?

Panasonic, for one, has 16 new 3D models for this year in Europe

You claimed this earlier in another thread, but it's still false.

"...the EX750 is the only model in the entire range to support 3D. It uses the active shutter system. Demand for 3D has dwindled to the point where most manufacturers just don’t bother any more..."

http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/panasonic-tvs-2017-4k-hdr-2952995

"The EX780 series also, it seems, offer 3D support. This makes them not only the only 3D-capable TVs in Panasonic’s 2017 range, but also one of the only 3D-capable TV series available from any brand in 2017."

Then you don't speak for everyone.

never said I did and that's the point. I don't care whether you like 4K or not, it's a personal preference which is something a LOT of people in this thread can't seem to grasp. I'm not trying to convince people that 4K sucks and providing arguments why "I think it sucks," nor calling implying that people are sheep for falling for Marketing "hype," nor acting condescending to people who dare not listen to me when I tell them something "sucks." Not that I think you've done that, but there are several people in this thread who are saying it.

Again, I don't care you don't like it nor why you don't and you seem "offended" by the idea that I don't care.

Again, I'm not the one complaining and making condescending statements. We get it, you hate it, move on.

not demand - weird anger. Nice room, I'm jelly!

Sadly, no 4K for me until 4K projector prices come down. Now that I have a 100" screen, I'm not going back to a TV anytime soon :)

Time to get a new ISP. ATT doesn't for me.
Yeah, just go out on the free market and choose a better ISP. You know, since it's such an open market.

Oh, what's that you say, you only have ONE choice that isn't DSL? Weird.

Again, I'm not the one complaining and making condescending statements. We get it, you hate it, move on.

What?! LOL, please don't post false statements. Nowhere in ANY of my comments did I say anything remotely close to that. Like I said; sit far away enough and 4k is pointless.... although I have no idea how you interpret this as me hating 4k?

Please explain how you came to that conclusion.
