These fires are still wreaking havoc and causing misery.

Status of the two biggest California fires:

Camp Fire (Northern California): 130,000 acres, 35% containment, 48 deaths (many more people are missing), 7,860 structures lost, most of them homes

Woolsey Fire (Southern California): 97,620 acres, 47% containment, 2 deaths, 435 structures lost

The Camp Fire is now the most destructive fire in California history. Meanwhile, firefighters are also battling three other large California fires, named Nurse, Hill, and Sierra. Altogether, tens of thousands of structures are still threatened.

It's very profitable for Apple.

First they don't pay taxes by using offshore accounts. Then they make these donations which they write off against even more taxes.

I'd wager more a lot more money would go to public services if they just paid their taxes and "donated" nothing.

Then they also allow people to donate via iTunes, which gets people signed up with accounts and credit card information and just one click away from buying music and other products.
It's just horrible that money is being donated for various causes/needs.

Update:

Camp Fire: 149500 acres, 60% contained. 76 people dead, 1200 people missing. 9914 homes and 367 other structures lost. 15,000 structures still threatened.

Woolsey Fire: 96949 acres, 88% contained. 3 people dead. 1130 structures lost.

Rain is predicted statewide on Wednesday, which will likely cause mudslides in the burn areas, threatening more homes.

To make matters worse, a contagious norovirus has been spreading at several shelters in Northern California, so far putting 25 people in hospitals.
