Are you suggesting Apple (more like *saying* since you clearly don't trust Apple) might not be engaging in honest business practices by donating a lot of money for disaster relief?

Please elaborate.
Again you are twisting my words. Apple’s ceo is tweeting (bragging and misusing this disaster for his own goal) without mentioning how much he’s donating.

Nope. He's motivating people to act similarly. Apple doesn't need to brag. You may not know they're one of the most successful tech companies in the world.

Try not to be so cynical. Many people and companies like to help others who are in need during desperate times. Have you ever personally donated money to those suffering a disaster?

Imagine the whine-fest if Apple disclosed a very large amount. It would be dismissed as a PR stunt by the perpetually-unhappy-ragging-on-Apple crowd here.

It amounts to a damned if you do, damned if you don't, based on years of history.

Much better to stay quiet, imo. No need to brag. Apple doesn't need to.

Apple has disclosed natural disaster relief effort donation amounts several times in the past. Of course, nothing anywhere close to the "hundreds of millions" you were suggesting.

Some examples:

When they’re one , as you’re saying, of the most successful companies in the world it’s very laughable they’re only donating 1 million dollars for help.

The tweet from Timmy is headline in all news articles and for 1 million dollars he’s grabbing headlines everywhere. It’s cheap advertisement.

Only one million dollars by a company whose got billions and billions on the bank.

Yes $1M to the Red Cross. You may not know there are many other organizations providing relief.

Will you be donating?

Why do you call him Timmy? He goes by Tim. I get that you think it's a slam on him.

I've seen us jump faster to assist other countries when disaster strikes but happy to see this. Hopefully more will join to assist.

It's crazy how many towns have been destroyed and how bad the impact of this has been. The response so far has been really pathetic from the government and companies compared to other prior disasters. Hopefully bigger players like apple chipping in gives a bit more notice to the catastrophe.
I think the damage is so widespread and transportation links so disrupted that it must be hard moving aid in. I don't envy FEMA - with catastrophic damage across so many states where does one even begin? Appalachia has struggled economically for some time. This must be a gut punch for those affected.

Perhaps Apple can put up a link on the app store to donate to Red Cross, if this hasn't been done already? (I am using UK app store so can't see the US version).

In case anybody is wondering how to donate to the American Red Cross: https://www.redcross.org/

Everything helps, but I really think they, and anyone should just give quietly. No need to shout it from the mountain top how much you are giving. I memory serves me right, Steve Jobs never said anything about charitable donations that were made. Some thought they never donated, other thought opposite. I have no answer to what, but I could very well see quiet donations made purely to help with no need for recognition A million dollars is nothing to a company Apples size, but it is a sizeable donation to the rest of the world none the less. With all that damage though it is a mere drop in the bucket.

Also, not to get picky, but might be good to look for other charities than Red Cross - they are very administrative heavy and have been known to do shenanigans like driving around empty trucks during hurricane Sandy relief to make it look good. Not the worst but not the best

You know this is a tweet from 2018, right? Different hurricane? If you have evidence that they are donating "only one million dollars," perhaps that would be more relevant.

For those claiming this is just PR, a reminder that Cook was born in Alabama, got his undergrad degree at Auburn and his MBA at Duke, in North Carolina. He was born and raised in the South, and I have a feeling that if you can put aside your reflexive hate or distrust of him, expressed as mockery and minimizing in the MR forums, you can hopefully see that he honestly is concerned with the people who have been impacted by this devastating storm. He is one of them. If your personal animosity toward Cook prevents you from doing even that, then that's just sad.

Fair enough. Can you list some?
A quick search results show cnet has a nice list, donated to several different charities so it’s distributed in different ways.

I'm guessing by the comments that everyone here is ready to donate and say how much compared to their earnings. Should be fun to see.

I contributed five pairs of low mileage used shoes via our local running shop that helps out. Shoes are far more important than people realize during flooding disasters. I'm retired and earn dividends from Apple and 401k money.

Because it's his job to decide such things. Some people are never satisfied.

I'm not dissatisfied in any way just pointing out that tweeting to millions is hardly going about your business quietly.

It's nice to see Apple is doing some good with that cash rather than just sitting on it.
