In response to devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles, California area this week, Apple said it will be donating towards recovery efforts on the ground.

"The devastation caused by the fires in Los Angeles is heartbreaking," said Apple CEO Tim Cook, in a social media post on Wednesday. "Thank you to the incredible firefighters, first responders, and all those assisting for your heroic efforts. Apple will be donating to support the victims and recovery efforts on the ground."

Apple frequently donates towards recovery efforts following natural disasters around the world, but it typically does not disclose the donation amount or recipient. In the past, Apple has donated to the American Red Cross for these purposes.

Well a million here, a million there, is easy for a company generating much more in the time I type this message. But it’s better than nothing 😊
So since it's "better than nothing", what do you feel would be a more appropriate donation level?

As much as we complain about Tim Cook he actually donates to charities. Steve Jobs almost never if ever did.

This post is worthy of a downvote? Wow.

No down vote for me, but I don’t buy into the charity image washing these mega corps do

Stop artificially offshoring your profit to evade taxes
Stop gouging your customers with 4 to 6X Mark ups on component upgrades
Stop lobbying for tax cuts so you can juice your stock price with stock buybacks

I’m not giving them credit for “being a good citizen” just because they do a token donation when there’s a crisis that’s highly visible

If there wasn’t a PR opportunity, they probably wouldn’t be doing this at all

For a company making as much profit as Apple and having its origins in California I would say at least 100 million. Maybe even donating a large amount of cellular iPads so the fireman could keep track of the fires in realtime.

So we don't even know what amount they'll be donating and you already deem it insufficient. Ok.

I am giving them credit for being a good citizen. They have to donate $0.

The rest of the post is really off-topic to the thread.

I find it odd that Apple never says the amount of the contribution. If they are proud of it, state the amount. Cook had no difficulty in highlighting the amount of his contribution to Trumps upcoming ceremony. However, Cook only piled in a few days after Zukerberg publicized his contribution.

Well said.

There’s a really big reason why they don’t say any amount…

Tim being the miser that he is doesn’t want to overcommit

Apple is damned if they do & damned if they don't.

Apple announces an intended donation and it's "for publicity.

Apple does nothing and it's "they make billions and they're not donating?".

Not true!

Announce a minimum commitment level

One can always go up

Tim sure didn’t mind talking about his personal donation amounts with specificity

Is it over a million dollars? Or does only the big money only go to inaugurations?

The million for the inauguration was personal money from Tim Cook.

The money donation for the wildfire recovery is from Apple.

I'm assuming that Tim Cook has no issues on reveling his donation while Apple has yet to discuss and agree on their donation amount.

This isn’t an either or. Unless you give also, imo, you have no right to criticize apple especially when they have given and you haven’t.
What do you know. What I would really find distasteful is when Apple announces a multibillion shareholder buyback in their earnings call this januari 31, when they could have done so much more with their money in helping with this disaster.

Again, it’s distasteful to tell others how to spend their money. Do as I say not as I do; is a frequent refrain around these parts.

And if you disagree with the management of apple; voicing one’s displeasure as I can tell from 14 years of membership has negligible impact. Better to start a shareholder revolt.

Apple the corporation is not the same as Tim Cook private individual.
