So they keep saying the 2017 iPhone. This is 'meant' to be the iPhone 7S. Why are they changing. My phone contract is geared towards expiring just before the new major release.

Seriously? Does anybody actually believe this ****? A couple of those changes, sure, maybe. But all of them? If you believe that, you don't know how Apple works.

This reads like a wish list of crappy Samsung design features somebody wants in an iPhone.

I think they will take on board all of these comments: larger for a bigger battery, no home button, get rid of the antenna lines, put in some buttons we can really feel, be in no doubt which way up it is, make it easy to hold on to and more robust, have no protruding camera, delight us with a quarter inch headphone jack, and make something that will really stand out from the rest. They will have to ditch Jonny to get there, but when they do, they will get something like this for their 10th Anniversary. Can't innovate anymore, my ass!

All because of the "hassle" of just snapping one of these tiny things on all of your old headphones? Seems like something we'll completely forget is there by February.

screen-shot-2016-07-28-at-11-42-36-am.png

Then putting it in your pocket, going for a walk, and snapping one of them OFF in the phone. It will happen due to the terrible design of the Lightning plug

That is so dope. I wish Apple would hurry up and release them sooner than expected.

The no home button and redesign with wireless charging with wireless features is my favorite part of the iphone upgrade. I am so sick and tired of all these damn wires fumbling around all over the place. I have iPhones, iPads, MacBook airs, MacBook pros, taking up precious wall space charging all over the place.

I am waiting five four three two one for release date.

I use 2 charging points - One for the Macbook, and one for the iPad/iPhone with a 12W charger. Thats all. We manage to charge an iPad Retna, iPad air, and 2 iPhone, plus a Macbook Pro and Macbook air quite successfully

The Touch ID behavior that you describe was introduced in iOS 7, with the iPhone 5S. That way of unlocking the phone is still there in iOS 10. Default behavior has just changed, that's all.

If you want the previous style, then go into Settings->General->Accessibility->Home Button, and toggle the "Rest Finger to Open" option on.

If you are talking about a simple slide to unlock, sans Touch ID, then you'd have to go back to using an iPhone 5 or earlier.

Ahh, I didn't know the functionality was in there all along. I guess I was more thinking of the "raise to wake" feature - such that if there's no home button on a future iPhone then how would you wake the phone (of course touching the screen perhaps) but it seems like maybe they could be streamlining this way of waking/unlocking if/when they away with the home button? Maybe the raise to wake function was already in there too lol...

So the iPhone 8 is today's Galaxy Note 7...

It's said they're giving us the crappy iPhone 6SE now and we have to wait because of this stupid hold out..
Did you read the actual article?
It'll be having a seamless glass surface to make it look like a single piece of glass. Not an edge on the display no user knows the meaning of, according to the edge users who told me. It doesn't add functionality at all.

I was really excited when I saw the mockup. Now everything that Apple's been trying to do makes sense.
Remove the headphone jack - Check
Multi-orientation speakers (currently on iPad Pro) - Check
Taptic engine - Check
No physical Home Button - Coming

Imagine an iPhone that you can pick up, not worry about the orientation, and just use it.
No more fumbling around to figure out which is the microphone end and which is the head end.
Not next year. You'll still have a single speaker and a mic and a single Facetime camera. Maybe in 5 years or so they'll double those to make it orientation independent but I'm doubtful. Without home button you'll start to fumble actually guessing where's the mic end.

More proof that Apple will have an iPhone similar to:
151026-iphone-7-concept-marek-weidlich-1200x675.jpg

Now proof that they have touch-id IN display like in the new MacBook

I think it might even be more radical and the buttons/ switches on the side are also 'virtual' (= integrated in the glass design). The only remaining physical switch will be the on/off-button.

"Bloomberg today confirmed" No they didn't. They claimed it , they reported on a claim that this will be the case. It may well happen this way but its highly unlikely that this feature has been irreversibly locked down within Apple at this point. Sloppy reporting.

I'm sick of glass. There's not a phone out there that myself or family couldn't break. Case, no case, doesn't matter, I've been having cracked screens repaired for years. What's wrong with plastic?

As we all know or should by this point, things change. As for your current phone contract, it might be your last. Even if it's not, the iPhone you would get this year will probably leave you feeling shortchanged, especially when a new design is revealed next year.

If this thing is as magical as it sounds, I just might buy two and keep one in the box alongside my original iPhone.

I've been talking about this iPhone for many years now, saying it was coming. People doubted. Apple has always wanted to distill the iPhone down to its simplest form.

I'm still not convinced they can get all the way there next year. Integrating the microphone and camera into the display will be tricky. Perhaps the phone speaker could go along the edge. Or perhaps they could have a thin bezel along the top and bottom for them, along with the light sensor (and TrueTone display sensor).

I've often wondered how they will get the home button to work. Apparently it's not too crazy difficult to integrate Touch ID into the display. But will it be all over the entire display? What will activate the home button—an even deeper 3D Touch Action? Whatever it is, it has to be simple. One of the reasons the iPhone is so easy to use is the home button.

Eye scanning would be neat, but I just don't know if that will be ready in time? I'd love to have iPhone sitting next to me, and just glancing over at it shows the lock screen and notifications, and won't even show that view if it doesn't recognize me.

Maybe Apple is saving eye scanning for the 8s in 2018?

So where do I hold this thing? Have you ever used an android device? They have no physical home button and two other buttons beside it. Whenever I touch one, it just starts opening menus and going back all the time.
Edge display? So I can't hold either the bottom or the side. Leaves the top. And Apple will take that away from me too.
Will I be needing some kind of a harness to mount it on?

I mean it would look awesome but I think the main problem will be for the digitizer to distinguish between intentional gestures and just fingers holding the device.

Sadly Steve is not there to design that phone. Let's hope Jony's creation won't look like a single piece of ****.
Jony is a good designer. Let's hope Tim won't interfere with his vision.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting it to happen in 2017 actually. Guess my enthusiasm got away from me, but I can see this being the end-goal of all the changes that are happening.

Mic and speaker are actually the same device. (You can record with a speaker and you can play music with a microphone).

Although, neither is super successful. Maybe, they can pull it off someday

I don't think it will be like that. I am not sure it is possible to implement a camera and earphone in a display.
Of course you can, its already been done.
