They should do away with the headphone jack in the 2017 iPhone, where they have many other features to make up for it.

I guess I can hold on to my iPhone 6 Plus for one more year. I reckon the 2017 iPhone will be released June 29. ;)

No. If your iPhone does not fall to the touch disease for one. Not sure if your being facetious, but highly doubt Apple will release the Tenth Anniversary iPhone in June with WWDC. They have released products in the past in June, but it's more of a rareity now.

People highly doubted they'd shift iphone releases to fall but they did

If all of this 2017 anticipation keeps up, it really could be a horrendous 12-14 months for Apple. Not only could the assumed lack of new features hurt them with the 7, but there's still another year+ for other companies to continue to leapfrog Apple in technological development, creating a dismal 7s as well. I'm still holding out hope that there will be something amazing about the 7 that they are keeping close to the vest. Some great "one more thing..." 'gotcha'.

All because of the "hassle" of just snapping one of these tiny things on all of your old headphones? Seems like something we'll completely forget is there by February.

Umm no... if they were adding a second lighting port then maybe. With just a single port please show us how you will be able to charge and listen at the same time??

But it will still be two years since the iPhone 6 got out. Regardless if this year all that happens is a minor change it's still the upgrade for 6 owners (since the two year contract and everything), not 6S owners. While the iPhone 8 might not be called the 7S, it still falls in the "S" period.

"S" is not about a period, it is the improved version; so in this case you would have to wait for the iPhone 8S;

This year with the iPhone 6 you actually have two "S" cycles, iPhone 6 - iPhone 6S - iPhone 6SS (named iPhone 7)

Oh my.. I really hope Apple does not build a Samsung copy.. If They do... Its time for Jony ive to look for a new job

In theory an all no bezel front sounds smart...in practice just plain stupid

i think this is fairly plausible. plus, i like the idea; holding out an extra 9 months seems so much more doable than a full year!

I agree they're pendulum has swung too much toward profit-pleasing, but hasn't the Galaxy looked pretty much the same since 2012? Until some pretty futuristic technologies catch up, there's just no room for major changes to smart phones. Brace for a long era of facelifts and desperate features, just like what the LCD/LED TV industry went through the past decade.
I don't advocate, just report my personal hands on experience with the phones I own. Using both Android and iPhones concurrently since they were first created, it's been fun, educational and rewarding. I carry both platforms daily, one is my personal, one for work. Each are put through equal usage scenarios.

Android lagged far behind iPhone until 2012. 2013 brought Android version 4.4.x which surpassed my iPhone experience. An important note is the fact that I've bought the latest iPhone upon release each year, along with each years best flagship Android.

Fast forward to my current favorites my Nexus 6P as primary smartphone and iPhone 6S Plus as my secondary unit. Never have Google's Nexus been so identical in build quality, size, and features to Apples always premium iPhone.

Marshmallow 6.0.1 in this premier handset has the ultra fast multitasking I truly rely on. Best notification system, gorgeous 5.7" display in a body the size of my 6S Plus, is quite the accomplishment.

Frankly I didn't expect to have an Android that suits me better than an iPhone, but here it is. My favorite smartphone by far.

Thanks Google :D

Poor investment. It will go down in value from the moment you open the box. It's true -- consumer goods are goods, not investments. There is no return on capital with goods. You use them then, if not completely consumed, dispose of them at a price less than original cost -- sell, give away, throw away. Just saying.

Now with the 2018 model offer more bang or the buck, maybe. Will it offer more value, perhaps. But it's not something one invests in. It's a pure expenditure.

They are holding it wrong.
You're taking the word "investment" a bit too literally.

Is this why they eliminated the slide-to-unlock feature in iOS 10? "Conditioning" people to turn on/unlock the phone by simply putting your finger on the touch ID sensor?
It's also why iOS is moving towards floating UI instead of edge to edge. If there's no bezel you'll have to create one in software to maintain usability.

So where does Touch ID go? How do you hard-reset your phone now?

Hard reset would just be "hold top volume button with power button for 20 seconds"

Touch ID could be embedded into the display (not likely) or part of the side power button like what Sony did on one of their phones.
Me personally I wouldn't mind seeing the Apple logo on the back double as a finger print reader. It would be covered in glass that sits flush with the rear. Or maybe an Iris scanner that works close to an arms length away.

Addition by subtraction. Things the iPhone 9 will surely do without: (1) volume up button, (2) microphone, (3) Internet connectivity. Imagine how thin -- and curvaceous -- it will be!

Yes... It'll be forgotten and lost.

Dongles are annoying, a cheezy low tech solution to a problem Apple is creating. Anything to make additional profit for a poor company that's struggling...

Funny how the iPhone 6ss hasn't been released yet and we're already hearing rumors about the iPhone after that.

Good thing I am not in a position of needing a new phone in 2016. The timing could not be worse for Apple. Hope they have a surprise or two. Will know soon.
