I CAN remember a time with no cable TV, internet, cell phones, DVRs, VCRs, DVDs... Ahh, the good old days.

Literally seems like a dystopian universe to me :p What I don't remember however is how slow 2G was, I remember borrowing my brothers original iPhone on road trips and as far as I can remember youtube and safari was extremely snappy, I could swear that they've purposely made it slow on my new phones.

There's a lot of things that are expensive that can get nicer. Look at the Mercedes S Class, extremely amazing, premium, lightning fast car, and yet you can make it -slightly- better for $40,000. "Premium" just means it's nicer than the thing below it. Look at it differently, you can have a rock seat, or a "premium" rock seat with a thin cushion attached. If somebody sees a feature or better design that they like and they have the money to pay for it, that doesn't make them a snob. A snob is somebody who would buy the phone BECAUSE of the price and then make sure everybody around them knows it.

There's a difference between high-end and overpriced.
I was willing to pay for my iPhone 6s the amount I paid because at the time it was the best possible phone and worth it (in my opinion). Charging even more for a "premium" version means you'll be able to pay less (or the same as now) and get even less.

I'm sorry, I won't pay 1000 bucks for the "third best new iPhone of 2017". And I don't understand how people can blindly do. The good thing about Apple used to be they concentrated on making one product great. If these rumors are to be believed, there'll be four new iPhone-versions. One great, the rest mediocre. Yippie!

That's going to get the colonials riled up.

The way I view it we won, you can talk however ya like :p.

But they'll ALL still be better than the last version, which is the thing that matters. Charging more for more is simply how the economy works, although I will agree it seems like Apple has gone a bit crazy lately. You can't be angry simply because they're planning to release a version that you don't want to pay for. If it's crazy people won't buy it, and the next year it'll be gone or closer in price to the other models. If people feel it's worth it, it'll sell, and continue to be "overpriced (which is another thing simply in the mind's of the consumer). And hopefully the increased price will motivate Apple to try to create even more amazing and neat features for it, which the other models will surely get in time and also benefit from. Apple increased the price for the 7+ this year, and it sold better than ever, so you can be assured that Apple will continue to put more effort into that phone, because it is more profitable for them. Doesn't mean that the 7 was suddenly the crap phone of the year. "Overpriced" is simply the price that the general market will stop buying the product, look at the Airpods- people screamed and screamed on this thread that they were overpriced, and nobody would buy them, and they've been on 6 week shipment for weeks now, the market decided that they weren't overpriced. Honestly with the way development of phones has slowed down I wouldn't mind a model that encouraged Apple to try overly really hard to make "premium" features, with the way their profits are falling the actual results could be amazing, because if they did it right they could stuff their pockets and make shareholders happy, while introducing features that the public feels like are worth paying for. Great the screen is 10.5% more saturated, it already looks great, I want something NEW not incremental. Stick the innovative stuff in the "premium" phone, the incremental but nice stuff in the normal phones (which is all we are really getting now anyways) and i'll buy the normal phone and be happy that i'll be getting the cool features in a year.

Good news for me! Thanks to my messed-up body chemistry, I always have issues with aluminium products. Both my Macbook Pros and iPhones get "corroded" (like tiny black spots) after a few months of usage.

Hopefully, that won't be the case with stainless steel!

I really don't like the idea of an additional premium model.
isn't iPhone already premium?

this should be how the new iPhone is ,not just limited to one additional model.

the idea of the nicer, better model being even more expensive and unaffordable to many is really depressing.

there should be only 2 varients : plus and standard, and both should feature OLED screen and redesign body etc.

YES! Most exciting rumour about iPhone 8. iPhone 4 was easily the nicest design, antenna-gate aside. I'm really just hoping Apple don't screw us over and charge a fortune for this thing. I hate the idea that it's probably going to be a 'premium' version rather than just letting us all have it.

glass, metal, aluminium, stardust ... no matter what it's made of , I am still putting a plastic spigen case on it :p

you knows it's going to be £999 :(

This for the 10th anniversary iphone give a smaller premium phone nodding to the first iphone which had a 3.5 inch screen.

If you want the same form factor as the iPhone 5 family the screen would need to be around 4.2 or 4.3 inches (due to much smaller bezel). IMHO this would be perfect.

I can't remember a time without the internet :p:eek:, I do remember my brother getting a brand new blue iMac and a very young me breaking it by sticking a penny in the cd slot :p
I can remember the internet arriving and 1200 baud modems.
I remember the introduction of VHS, CDs and DVDs
I can't remember the introduction of colour tvs, but can remember watching a black and white portable tv and main colour tv.
I can remember getting a microwave.
I remember the introduction of the mobile phone.
The arrival of satellite tv.
I remember computers with 1k ram.
And digital watches.
I remember life before the IBM PC
:)

haha - you definitely missed out on downloading porn-pics on a 14.4k modem, paying for the internet by the minute.

When I last did the measurements I figured you could fit 4.5" in there, or 4.7" if it's sans-home button.

When I hear "premium" iPhone, i don't know if it makes me laugh or just mad.

What kind of "snobs" are you? The iPhone is a premium phone. Period. Just because the internals don't match that, doesn't mean 1000 $/€ for a phone is adequate. I love my iPhone but I definitely won't pay 1200 or 1500 bucks for it. Are you out of your mind? For a phone that looks nice but that you have to put in a case because otherwise your precious toy goes to waste real fast?

iPhone is premium. An even higher priced iPhone that costs less than 300 $ in production is simply that, an even higher priced iPhone. Nothing premium about it. Just even more expensive.
It's Premium-er...

But yeah, I get your points. I wanted a black iPhone 5, and wound up with the white one because of supply, and the white was shockingly covered up and never seen again until I took it out of its case. But then again, others don't have a case and I suppose that's when the premiumity of the new ones shows.

That might tempt me away from the 5.5 model, I LOVE bigger screens on phones but I could navigate/text so much faster on the 5 and the phones before it (although i do navigate my 6S+ with one hand usually), I would so be tempted by an iPhone that small with a 4.7 screen.

I made sure I got the black iPhone 5, it was a beautiful phone..... until a month later when the top was literally a flakey silver :( I think you got a better deal that time around:p

iPhone 8 Edition, not Premum*

*For those of you in the UK, Premium ;)

The more Apple reserves its real innovation for "premium" models. Like the edge to edge OLED screen here. Or the touchbar in the new Macbook pros, the more they will distance themselves from normal consumers. Which they once had an iron grip on.

I remember my first modem was a 1200 baud (might have been duplex to 2400) so that would have been 150 bytes per second each way for downloading text on a screen prior to the internet

A steel iPhone eh? So the next iPhone is going to have the feature that you can hit people over the head with it without risking any damage to it?

Now that's what I call innovation!

This. Almost every update after the iPhone 4 was just "oh well that might be useful somewhere, and it looks not-hideous" I want a device that wows again. I remember seeing the lost iPhone 4 and just hoping that it was the actual thing because it was just something beautiful, kinda like a Lamborghini, even if you don't have it, it's really nice to see it in the wild. The 6 design is the most boring and "well it works" design, worse than the soft touch plastic in my opinion because at least that makes the phone easier to hold. It was an awful copy of the HTC One, it actually looked nice. It's hilarious because the glass-backed Samsung's are in my opinion the prettiest devices on the market, I just can't deal with android again.

I don't care about wow one bit. I just want a phone that works every time all the time. I want software that is not so dumbed down that it is not adaptable to my way of working or playing. I want a phone that does not miss notifications unless I reboot every other day. I want a phone where all of the software provided by the manufacturer is updated regularly and bugs fixed, not new poorly defined features added instead.
