It was a giant screen relative to everything else on the market

Not really, the 3.5" was a fairly common screen size among the PDAs. There were even great apps (Office suites, drawing apps, fully 3D accelerated games, physics simulations, companion apps to all kinds of professional hardware), GPS receivers with full blown navigation apps, bluetooth, GSM and data connections, complete web browsers, all atop a full fledged operating system. It's just that those devices weren't targeted at (and marketed to) the consumer market.

Both Android and iOS still haven't come close to the functionality of those Pocket PC devices.

iPhone 4 re re re re re re refresh!!!!!!!

I don't like the part about 'reduced costs' as we all know that benefits only one party, and it won't be the customer!

Still early days, I suspect this will be some sort of copy of the Galaxy Edge, lets hope its not as big as the Plus models.
Be nice if it's a 5" and 5:8" device no backup get then the current models those though.

If they use just a small amount it would add structural rigidity without adding weight so the glass doesn't break as the SS would flex less. SS doesn't have to be visible either if they intend on making it look like a single sheet of glass.

The iPhone 4 and 4s models owed most of their weight to the dual glass covers, not the steel frame.

I'd prefer a phone with a little more weight. The 6/6S is too darn light and slippery; my wife's 4S feels a LOT better.

What I'd selfishly love to see is a 4.7" version of the 5 with a stainless steel frame to give it a little more heft.

I'm 32 now so when I was growing up it was these new things called 'Personal Computers' that started hitting the big time. It was wonderful seeing it all just evolve over time and watching the power of these machines grow year on year.

And then out of nowhere BOOM the internet arrived. That changed everything and was totally unexpected. Then I saw that grow and evolve over time which has also been a weird experience. And again with the smartphone era, which was essentially fuelled by the ability to take the internet on the go (it was exclusively a sit at home in front of your computer experience for a long time, now you can browse Reddit on the toilet ha)

At the time all these felt like 'hyper technology' to me too, so no doubt in your lifetime you'll see new trends emerging and evolving just as I have, the smartphone era being the first. Enjoy it as much you can, and always take the time out to appreciate how far we've come in such a short space of time.

When you were growing up computers were not new....lol. I am 47 and I saw when the PC started to hit big time.

First good news of the year, return to the build quality of the iPhone 4. Aluminum is a way to soft metal for an object of utility. No more bendgate, no more scuffgate. The indestructible waterproof iPhone of my dreams.

Do you remember coding sheets? I literally "wrote" my first apps in pencil on paper coding sheets. The sheets were then mailed to the nearest computer (30 miles away) where someone punched them into a deck of cards, ran them and then mailed the green-bar printout back a week later.

Then I had to fix the syntax errors with an eraser and repeat the process.

Every time you post that mockup I'm reminded that you have no idea what an iPhone should/could/would look like, and are completely out of touch.

Then you post derogatory and inflammatory articles when Apple takes zero cues from the tech blog industry.
