LOL, yeah, Apple clearly gives a damn about creating jobs in America.
Why should it? It's a multinational company that probably sells more abroad than in the US. It has no obligation to 'create jobs in America', and all the people like me who buy their products and don't live there don't really give a **** if it creates jobs in the us or in India or in China.

Didn't they hire the guys from TomTom to design Maps for them?

They bought stripped down data from Tom Tom. If Apple hadn't been so tight assed in the first place, hired 150 - 200 Cartographers - those magical people that make maps - placed decent software engineers on the projct. THe Maps application wold have been far less problematic.

The penny pinching is slowly coming home to roost. Going to cost them more to put the pile of crapple right, than it would have done if they had spent a little more during development.

Since they want to be a part of everyone's car they have to have a good maps and navigation app like waze or something in google. Hopefully they will catch it up in 2017-2018.

What is up with maps! Seriously, I'm curious.. Apple has lost Maps game to Google even before the game was started..

I've never opened up the Apple's Maps intentionally since !? forever..

Like many others, don't think this move is any related to maps at all.. It must be some type of umm "making people happy" maybe?..

So, Google Maps sucks in China. It's absolutely useless. Bing Maps, Apple Maps, or Baidu Maps are where its at. There are some countries where Google Maps is absolute garbage. Although, to be honest, Apple sources their data from local companies. It's basically an API. Search for 'Starbucks' in China and it'll load the results from a 3rd party.

A quick search for "Apple, Hyderabad, India" on Apple maps explains it all ...

4000 Indians is also equivalent to about 3 Silicon Valley salaries.
And the combined talent of about a dozen experienced Silicon Valley software development engineers.

Tim, if you haven't re-read Fred Brooks, "The Mythical Man Month" lately, it is time to go over it.

My guess is the breakdown will go like this:

10 executive team interfacing with International Operations in Cupertino
40 development / build engineers interfacing with the designers in Cupertino
100 facilities (maintenance, security, cafeteria, etc.)
150 personnel management (reception, secretary, group activities)
200 IT
500 map QA managers
3000 map QA and refinement

In line with previous rumors and confirmations, Apple today announced the opening of a new development center in Hyderabad, India focused on Apple Maps development.

WaveRock campus in Hyderabad, India

The new center will employ up to 4,000 workers, with the announcement coming as part of Tim Cook's ongoing trip to China and India.According to previous reports, the new center at Tishman Speyer's WaveRock campus in Hyderabad is 250,000 square feet, with Apple investing $25 million in the project.

The news comes a day after Apple announced plans to open an iOS App Design and Development Accelerator in Bangalore, India. That center, intended to aid Indian app developers in adopting Apple's Swift programming language and help with development and one-on-one app reviews, is planned to open early next year.

New job opportunity for Scott Forstall? Even though he screwed up the Apple Maps, I kinda liked him. He might have been a better project leader than a programmer, if he was given enough time.

One of the last "edgy yet straight to the point" personalities, that todays Apple seems to lack.

EDIT: spelling

Traitorous RATS. What about employing Americans? What the hell is all this employment for INDIANS? I hope Trump nails Cook's ass to the floor and taxes the hell out of Apple until they remember who they are, where they are, and where they came from. Not to mention who has made them so very wealthy. America and Americans! That's who. He's traded away American Jobs. If I had my way he'd be horse whipped for this. Wake up America!

I have a Macbook pro, an iPad, an iPhone, a Mac Pro, and with this move, I'm not buying anymore. It was okay with Foxconn, companies have to do that to stay competitive, but Apple is comprised of a bunch of greedy tax dodgers who don't give a damn about our America. I'm done with the rotten Apple.

What you going to move to instead then? Microsoft have a load of staff in India so cannot be anything running Windows. Samsung are opening a 3rd manufacturing plant in India so cannot be them. HTC are also going to start manufacturing in India too.

I think this is just the beginning of outsourcing their high cost US programmers. It will start with maps and iOS will follow. Step by step so that we accept it
Amen. I hear you. All the while Cook and Obama have a good chuckle over it. Apple is traitorous! These should be AMERICAN JOBS! When will we refuse to tolerate this? When? We can stop this, but we don't. Do we all want to be unemployed?

This could save tax but it's most likely they will get a more cost effective work force. Pretty much every cost from the salaries to the cost of the building to the utility bills will be a fraction of the cost of the same in the US, and often the workforce is more productive than in the western world. Is is about saving money and doing good business, not dodging tax, every business that is publicly owned is obliged to make us much profit as possible, that can mean selling more stuff or reducing overheads.

In a few years from now Apples US sales will be a small percentage of the overal sales I would guess, they are a global company and can and will develop the company in any country that wants them and will support them.

They're traitorous RATS and this jobs give away to foreign countries must END. Enough of this. God's sake, we'll all be flipping hamburgers. So if this work is labor intensive set it up in Sonora, CA., Labor rates are less than half of Silicon Valley and 4,000 Americans desperately in need of jobs will be working. Trump has to stop this ****. It's why we're electing him. The only things left in the U.S. from Apple in 10 years will be the G.D. cash registers to ring up their sales. All their jobs will have gone overseas. The damn Traitors! And that's what the are. Good Business decision? ********!

Remember when they wanted to stir the whole 'made in america' pot?

Remember the last time the Mac Pro was updated…?

C'mon Apple. Pay your taxes and hire Americans to get the Beast up to date.

How lame is that - By that token , every Indian or Chinese should stop buying Apple or Dell because they are based out of America and give a damn about their nation?
Your country is great today because it always believed in the power of keeping markets free.. It took the Chinese and Indians a century+ to realize that ..
I hope you do realize that your statement goes against the very principle of that!

I hope you also do realize that your economy cannot work in isolation - The world consumes your services and products (which obviously you do not have a problem with) and you consume services and products from other countries too (which inexplicably is not acceptable to you and reeks of treason!)

What if the Chinese and Indians decide to stop doing business with the US altogether?
Obviously it would hit them hard but would cripple the American economy too..

On a different note, I find it disturbing how ultra right nationalism is on the rise everywhere in the last decade or so - Whether it be India or elsewhere

Google Now and Google Maps are so far ahead of Apple. I use a feature on maps.google.com where I give it a date and time I need to be at a location and it tells me when I'll need to leave the house by based on historical traffic. It's really amazing.

well, you can do that on iOS / OSX too.

Just set a calendar event and include address & locomotion type.
Travel time will be computed and you'll have (if properly set to) a time-to-leave notification. However I don't think it takes into account traffic or road conditions like google does...

so I guess that whole insourcing thing they were exploring with the 2013 Mac Pro is over. Ship the jobs overseas, scrape the margins hard until Icahn is happy.

That was just a PR stunt, that people bought into thinking Apple would bring jobs back to the US, they choose a product with the lowest sales/numbers they could ignore, which they have for 3 years, and with the move away from desktop to pro iPads can claim desktop is dead and kill the Mac Pro.

The 2013 Mac Pro could be the last machine made in the US.
