So you think they are adding pencil support to the cheap iPad's? Pencil support would indicate Pro's.

Since Apple is really trying to put iPads in the classroom, I don't think it's to far fetched to see a new iPad released with updated Airs.

Who knows, but I really am holding out for the new iPad. I've had my credit card ready for about 3 months now.

Yes, obviously, but look at the invite. Pencil support is obvious, now whether it's for Pro's or for the budget, we have no idea.

I wonder if they're taking another swing at controlling the education market. They used to have a large footprint when the eMac was around, and they've since let it slip to Google and MS.

At a lower price do you think the specs are going be better or worse than the current 9.7-inch 2017 iPad model? Do you think it'll have a laminated display? Apple Pencil compatibility? 12MP rear and 5MP front camera? I don't care much about the RAM, chip, speakers... I'm fine with the current model in that regard.

This seems similar to the education event Apple had back in January 2012 in New York. My guess is it’s a specific event and if any hardware is shown off it will be education specific.

holding it in Chicago is interesting and inviting the media, i agree that the invite is very obvious within the Apple Pencil also the tagline of "Join us to hear creative NEW ideas for teachers and students" i wonder what they have cooking.

Yup, interesting for sure. I can't see them adding Pencil support, but it's definitely possible.

All these comments about hope and hoping. Do not fear, Apple will dash your hardware hopes on the shoals of services income.

Would be very surprised if there were any hardware announcements - the last education event they did (if I remember correctly) just announced some things to do with iBooks: https://www.theverge.com/2012/1/11/2699684/apple-education-event-set-for-january-19th-in-nyc

AirPower, new iPads, cheaper laptops could easily just be announced via a press release.

this. probably just some education announcements at this event. no hardware.

iOS 11.3, airpower, ipads or whatever else will be press releases only.

Chicago? Wonder if it's because they'ye partnering with a local company?

Just googled tech firms in Chicago and didn't realize they had so many. Didn't see many related to education, though.

Chicago is one of the fastest growing tech markets in the nation (outside SV).

Some of you need to get out of your bubbles ... it's as if you think (aside from the two coasts) nothing else happens in this country from a tech and innovation perspective. Chicago gets a bad rap in the media due to gang violence, which is a little comical given 90%+ of it is isolated to a few bad hoods on the south and west sides (miles away from the city center). There's nothing "odd" or "curious" about this event being hosted in Chicago ... a global, world class city that just so happens to be one of the fastest growing tech incubators in the nation.

They have also invited media from here in the UK as well as the US according to 9to5 Mac

"We’ve seen two invitations so far, in the USA and UK, both inviting people to an event taking place at a high school in Chicago."

https://9to5mac.com/2018/03/16/appl...ducation-events-around-the-world-on-march-27/

I'm not sure we will see the iPad Pro's at this event, but it would be great to see this rumoured low cost MacBook Air with retina display that has been rumoured for a while now.

Nice! Hoping for an early release of the new iPad Pro's.

I don’t think so. This is in line with what people have been speculating all along, the launch of a new budget iPad. They’re not going to be marketing iPad Pros at the education sector.
