How about an update to iBooks Author. Maybe make an iPad Author app for it. Let me create books that sync with Canvas and Blackboard and let me track interactions with the book. I want to know what content students are reading, and what material they are skipping over.

Classkit across apps so I can prevent cheating via multitask regardless of the app I want to use. I don't need the developer deciding if their app has educational potential.

Better feedback sync. I want real time feedback to show students how they have individually progressed within a study period. A lot of students feel like they are not progressing fast enough compared to what they *think* their peers are doing. While quizzes are ok, they tests content retention and not their evolution of learning. I want to be able to show students that they are grasping new concepts within a topic faster than they did earlier in the material as a way to keep them motivated.

Automatic app switching controlled by the instructor. That way I can pull up content on all of their screens, that they can interact with, and then I can move them to a different app when the class moves on.

At a lower price do you think the specs are going be better or worse than the current 9.7-inch 2017 iPad model? Do you think it'll have a laminated display? Apple Pencil compatibility? 12MP rear and 5MP front camera? I don't care much about the RAM, chip, speakers... I'm fine with the current model in that regard.

Even if it’s cheaper, I doubt they will release something with inferior specs than what they launched a year ago, especially since it wasn’t even top of the line then.

If it's for education, then it's probably going to be a lower-end product - iPad with pen support, not iPad Pro.

Would love this but not sure how they could have two tiers of Pencil enabled iPads.
Especially if one is $259 and the other is $600.
I suppose less accuracy, but you don't want to lose the Pencil advantage.

Not the March event I was expecting, but interesting!

Hopefully that 259 iPad wasn't just education pricing?

If i was going to read into that Apple poster for the event with the flowing calligraphy like graphic, i'd say it looks like it was created with an Apple pencil. Hmm. I would therefore further speculate that Apple will announce that the rumored new low cost ipad will now be able to use the apple pencil. Think about it. Whats more synonymous with education than pencil and paper? Students taking notes on their ipads. Teachers correcting student papers on their ipads. Etc etc.

I think it's about time too. I've always felt that being able to use the apple pencil should not be exclusive to pro models. A pencil is such a universal tool. And Think of how many more Apple pencils Apple would sell if they could be used on all their ipads.

As an ipad mini user, i have always wished to be able to use the apple pencil on my ipad mini. It would be the perfect portable sketchbook and notetaking device. I've heard no rumor about an ipad mini update, but if my above guess about the apple pencil and new low cost ipad is true, i hope Apple also updates the mini as well.

Guess we'll find out if i was right in a couple weeks.

Would be very surprised if there were any hardware announcements - the last education event they did (if I remember correctly) just announced some things to do with iBooks: https://www.theverge.com/2012/1/11/2699684/apple-education-event-set-for-january-19th-in-nyc

AirPower, new iPads, cheaper laptops could easily just be announced via a press release.

Releasing via a press release makes sense when you don’t have an event scheduled, but given that signs have pointed to the release of some new hardware by the end of this month, and they now have an even planned for the end of the month, it seems pretty likely that they will announce something hardware related during their presentation.

I don’t think so. This is in line with what people have been speculating all along, the launch of a new budget iPad. They’re not going to be marketing iPad Pros at the education sector.

Correct, and that's really what I am expecting as well, but I find it odd that they are touting pencil support as I don't see it coming to the budget line. My thoughts are that it remains in line with WWDC, but I am hoping for sooner.

I am quite sure a new MacBook Air will be released. A major online reseller in Finland just advertised €300 off of the price of a 13" MacBook Air (base model). I've seen them do similar stock clearances right prior to new Apple product launches – and that's the only time they give considerable discounts on any Apple products.

If the discounted retail price (€699 vs. €999) is any indication, the new MacBook Air will indeed retail in the price range Kuo suggests – making it an ideal new MacBook for students on a budget.

I thought earlier rumors pointed to a sub-$200 iPad emerging later this year.

Whuzzathen?

They can neuter out an iPad (no camera or mic, etc) and jam in an older processor and maybe lower-end screen and make it super cheap "for the children".

I'm not holding my breath for new hardware, if anything perhaps cheaper pricing on existing hardware for the education market.

Pencil support on lower cost iPads would be huge if Apple really wants them to be the go to device in schools. Theoretically, the iPad could then be a textbook, computer, and notebook all rolled into one. It makes a lot of sense to me.

That would be great. If it’s announced on March 28th when does it start shipping in Europe? Any idea?

Is this with Chromebooks?

Chromebooks, Google Classroom, Google Drive and its integration with Google Docs/Sheets/Slides...

As a teacher, I can tell you that Google’s platform is killing the competition in education. In fact, I would say that right now there isn’t much competition. Even when students use iPads in my school, it usually involves accessing a Google app or service.
