I think the next iPad will have a faster dual core CPU... not quad core. But the smoke screen drawing attention away from it will be the retina display. :apple:

Credit card is on yellow alert standby regardless of number of cores (hoping for quad).

I wonder if I'll actually do what I said I'd do when I bought the last iPad 2 a few minutes after it went for sale on Apple.com. That is, buy two, keep one and sell the other and make a couple of hundred dollars quickly.

Cannot wait! :D Anyone else think we will see a 128GB model this time around? (Due to the 4S getting 64GB)

Only if they skip a capacity and keep just three, like : 16GB, 64GB, 128GB. A bit like the iPod touch which doesn't have a 16GB.

The demand for the 16GB is very high, lots of people just browse, stream and don't save much on their iPad. I don't see them removing the lowest (and cheapest) model yet without increasing the starting price, which I think is very unlikely.

But I still think they'll only offer up to 64GB. What do you put on your iPad to need more than 64GB anyway? A movie collection?

Good news.

I've been holding out on getting an iPad (waiting for the retina display). Hopefully the Mac Pro is next on Apple's "to-do" list.

Skipped ipad2 and will pass on my original to my daughter at college when this launches. Really glad I skipped the last one as I feel Ive got fantastic value, nearly two years use from original. Every second year to update seems far more logical to me

Completely agree. I stuck with the iPad 1 and put it up for sale at the weekend. It's held its value really well, ends on Sunday and its got 20 bidders, 62 watchers and is up to £250!

The iPad one has been great. I didnt feel I needed to upgrade to the 2 as it really only added one useful thing - the cameras. Since I would rarely have a use for it, I kept the 1. Glad I did now.

I did the same with the iPhone. Had the iPhone 1, skipped the 3G, got the 3G. I ended up skipping the 4s as I really have no need for Siri.

I hope you're right about the Pro, but sadly I think it'll soon vanish :(

Yes, home videos, pictures, documents, etc. I think it would be pretty lame to have the beautiful 10" retina screen, but have less or the same storage space that an iPhone has.

Wow, my first day back to the states after a 6 month trip overseas and there will be a new iPad announced?

Welcome home indeed. :D

Anyone wanna buy my iPad 2? ;)

Already looking up how much I can get for my pristine iPad 2 by recycling or eBay'ing...!

Bring it on! :)

Anyone that follows tech right now and has any common sense should be hoping for a dual core iPad3 - the next generation of dual core chips at 28nm is going to offer more speed (2x 1.6-2.5 ghz chips > 4x 1-1.3 ghz ones), lower power consumption, better graphics, and much better battery life on 4g with die-shrunk radios now moved on-die. Search for Qualcomm S4 MSM8960 or "Krait" and you'll start to understand.

Quad core 40nm chips like tegra 3 are honestly yesterdays news.

I would assume it is true - Jim Dalrymple at the Loop has an uncanny accuracy rating with rumors. He says one word and one word only. He says "Yep". I would believe him.

As long as he doesn't say it like Dave Hester from Storage Wars... "Yuuuuuup!"
(sorry I had to). :D

In all seriousness, though, this is perfect timing. I think I've found what my birthday present to myself will be haha

This stresses me out. I'm going to have literally sit at my computer until its either announced that the iPad 3 will go on sale immediately or that it will be on sale at some future date. My computer will literally slow to a crawl as the millions of other people who are trying to order iPad 3's overwhelm the ordering system. My order will fail multiple times, until finally the site won't load at all.

Then sometime the following week it will be back up again, but the iPad's will have delivery estimates 3 months out. lol

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.jpg

What I'm hoping for, other than 1GB of RAM and a sweet sweet 'Retina' screen, is also much improved flash speeds. The small embedded flash chips, like HDDs, need to have improved write/read speeds because then no matter how good the CPU is, app loading times will still lag a bit.

It seems like the natural progression especially since they are going to a higher res display. They've also kept the storage the same for 2 years. Normally they don't go more than 2 years without upping the storage on an iOS device.

I'm hoping to buy a 64GB LTE for $729. I think that's reasonable.

Sounds cool, waiting to see what the LTE plan rates are going to before I decide on this one. While I was hoping on a quadcore, simply because any time I make a new tech purchase I'd like them to use the new hardware available, the LTE may make it worth it. Hopefully they get the retina display too.

It's possible now that we have 64Gb 2-bit-per-cell 25nm MLC dies (you can have up to eight dies per NAND device and iPad uses two NAND devices, which works out to be up to 2x64GB). Those were not available in high volume when the iPad 2 launched.

what kind of price cut can we expect on remaining iPad 2 inventory when they make an announcement? If they cut a phone by $100 when it was only at $200 to start with, can we expect the 16GB to drop to $399?

I wouldn't be surprised to see the iPad 2 remain available in a 16 GB model and offer iPad 3 in 32, 64, and 128 GB options.

$299 or $349, I'd hope. Though $399 seems more believable. And remember, there are lots of rumors that say there won't be "remaining" iPad 2 inventory, but instead iPad 2 will still be sold new alongside the next version, similar to the way iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 are still sold new.
