as i see it, there are two equally strong reasons for LP:

LP for speed! (MBPs, MPs, video gear, external SSD raids etc)
LP for ease/interconnectivity! (iPads, MBAs, CinemaDisplays etc).
either could use USB type or MagSafe-like connector

neither rule eachother out!

side note: if magsafe could be gay (or could we say 69?), it would be perfect!

Which one is "front"?
Look inside the connector. You will see that it is asymmetrical on the inside. There is a piece of plastic with copper connectors sitting on it and a large open area inside the connector above it. That open area is near the front.

Left or Right?
I don't know what you mean by this.

How should I remember? What if there's very dim light and the logo isn't carved, but painted?
Get a better light.

Oh great.. another $50 cable I will need to buy!

Not sure you know what 'need' means.

Anyway, I'll give Intel a call for you later and see if we can cancel development so you're not tempted to waste money on technology.

6 pin Firewire has always been my favorite connector. It just has a certain charm about it.

I think they should forgo the "i" and simply call it Light Peak. It's not a complicated name and it's easily remembered. I can already see the commercials for the new Macbook Pros...
Agreed. Light Peak sounds like an Apple name.

LightPeak/Thunderbolt bit rate

Maybe I missed it, but does anyone know the data rate on LightPeak or Thunderbolt? I was only curious, because if say MiniDisplayPort were to be used for data, it could handle 17Gbits/s or just over 2GB/s, which seems pretty respectable to me. Info, Ideas?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Looks like I'm upgrading soon =D

Edit: what are the transfer speeds like with lightpeak?

10 Gbps. But there's a revision that pushes it to 20 Gbps.
