Waiting for Skylake 27" with latest and greatest AMD or nVidia grfx (hopefully 6 GB or more VRAM... X-Plane 10 you see...)
Get a PC... unbelivable what difference it makes.. i own mac for works...but for Simming went PC... so much smoother so much faster even with the same specs!

No Skylake I assume?
Well, the desktop Skylake CPUs are out, so I'd actually say yes to Skylake.

I think we'll have the following lineup:

21.5" 4K: Intel Core i5 6400/6600 or Intel Core i7 6700 (with an ultra low specced one for basic uses and schools with a mobile i5-6260HQ. Or one of the quad-core mobile i5's for that matter, either the 6300HQ or the 6440HQ (which is a first for Intel. Mobile i5s have been dual-core since their introduction).

27" 5K: Intel Core i5 6600K or Intel Core i7 6700K.

Both models with DDR3 standard, possibility to upgrade to DDR4 memory (this is to keep the base price down, most people will go DDR4 anyway).

I'm curious to see this iPad Pro in person. Seems like its just a month away.

Actually the Apple TV should be launching this month. I wonder when..

Well this was a surprise.... Not. But I am glad they brought it out, it was time.

EDIT: I'm really curious if they will keep the $1299 starting price.

Would this machine with the best available graphics chip run game graphics well? Would like to try World of Warcraft again but I'm worried that pushing over nine million pixels might tax a mobile graphics chip. Anyone with the 27 inch Retina able to reassure me?

That new Surface Book looks nice, but it's a little overhyped. 3.5lbs is hardly ultra-portable, and only 1GB on the Nvidia GPU.
13 inch rMBP doesn't even have dedicated graphics which is one of the reasons I never bought one. Currently looking for the right laptop though, and a surface could be the way to go - for me anyway.

Yep, agreed. I'm in the same boat. I'm just very skeptical right now. But don't get me wrong, the Surface Book has caught my eye. But not even revealing what GPU it is isn't exactly playing in their favor when the people who would be buying such a dGPU-equipped system will REALLY want to know what it is

There's a market out there for small laptops with discrete GPUs that can be attached as/when needed. Sony did it (albeit unsuccessfully) many years back with their Z line of laptops (I still have a 2011 Vaio Z2, and it plays Diablo 3 at 1080p without issue with the LightPeak-attached AMD GPU). I'd love to see this sort of thing happen on a more powerful scale.

We'll see if MS pulled it off in some small way.

I hear you... but I have one Mac in the living room which I use for all my "daily computing stuff" (usual internet / iLife / Work and X-Plane simming)
So, that's currently an iMac (now the maxed out 2013 27").
No ugly PC in the living room just for simming.

Very very interested in that new band. Looking for a wearable to replace my Nike Fuelband and I've only heard good things about Microsoft's offering.

Damn. I have been WAITING for the iMac 27 Retina refresh. I will purchase one the day it is out.

Hopefully before the end of the year.
I've been waiting for a base 21.5 refresh forever. If they don't get upgraded as part of this release I may have purchase anyway. Need an upgrade bad and tired of waiting.

Hopefully the Apple TV launches next week too?! :D

I was think about this myself, but in my usual crazy way.

Just imagine if Apple sold only the Displays. And then put the computer in a stick that could plug into a port on the back. Seriously, if you look at the innards of the Macbook or even th imac, we are so close to this. The benefit is that while computing technology changes every year (at least). Display/viewing technology does not. In the last 10 years we have gone to 1080p, retina and now 4k. in those same ten years the speed and power of computers has changed 20 times and grown exponentially.

Add to that - it would be cool to simply take my computer in my pocket and just plug it into a screen wherever I go.

Apple plans to introduce the rumored 21.5-inch Retina iMac next week, reports 9to5Mac. There will be several models that could show up in stores as early as October 13, but supplies may be somewhat limited until production ramps up in November.

As has been previously rumored, the 21.5-inch iMac will have a resolution of 4096 x 2304. Code discovered in OS X El Capitan has pointed towards Broadwell chips with Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 and AMD Radeon M380 - M395X discrete graphics for the new iMacs.

Rumors have also suggested the new 21.5-inch iMac will include an improved display quality with greater color saturation, but the external design of the machine will remain the same. Due to the new Retina displays, the 21.5-inch iMac models will be priced higher than existing iMac models.

The 27-inch iMac is not likely to receive an update alongside the 21.5-inch iMac and it is not clear if Apple will also debut new rumored accessories alongside the machine. According to regulatory filings, Apple is working on a second-generation Magic Mouse and a new wireless keyboard with Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity and a rechargeable battery.

As for the iPad Pro, Japanese site Mac Otakara recently suggested the larger-screened tablet would launch in early November, a rumor that 9to5Mac concurs with in today's report.

I am just hoping for the 3TB storage option offered only on the 27" currently. No rumors yet on that front.
