Has anyone ever entered their trade in information in Apples website and felt like it was anywhere near fair? Odds are, whether it's them or another entity it will be sold overseas at least twice what they paid you.
You reallly think that’s a fair comment? If you trade in a car at the dealer, won’t they refurbish it and sell it for much more than they paid you? Answer: yes

if you want the best deal, sell it retail yourself

I like that idea as long as it is a competitive value.

I should not "assume" but, I assume it would be the same as if you did the "by mail" trade in...no?

They quoted $250 for an iMac... I sold it on eBay for $625... I understand convenience, but leaving almost $400 on the table was silly.

That makes complete sense. When you sell it on eBay you are selling to the end user. Apple store , they will now refurb and sell to an end user

I like the idea of this, but would like the option of Trade-ins being accepted within the 14 day return period after purchasing a new device..Process would look like this

quote me a trade in value for old machine in store based on inspection
record that data (serial number, condition, quote value)
i purchase new machine - still have 14 day window to return
if i keep the new machine, i must turn in trade in within that window, machine must meet all previously recorded data.
if i dont, i return the new machine, and i still have my original device to fall back on.

i'd imagine apple isnt recording revenue at point of purchase anyway because of their return policy, so this causes the least amount of harm to a customer who might change their mind and now have already handed their machine over to Apple.

I feel bad for the retail employees who will be dealing with this on top of the other trade ins. I wonder if they’ll have to have some computers opened up. Seems pretty time consuming already.
They will run a diagnostic (you know, like you can do yourself at power on) they will know everything passes, or doesn’t. Probably won’t care about battery, because they will have to replace it anyway. They are trained to spot blemishes, cracks, dirt. All in probably 10 minutes max

Good luck with that

How much did you net after paying to ship the iMac along with boxing it up & taking to mail?

So now they can make a joke of an offer straight to your face?

Sell your Apple devices privately, you'll make twice what Apple offers you if not more.

EDIT: Just checked on the site, they'll give me $420 for a machine that goes for ~$700-800 used. Also, if they ask me for my serial number, why do I then have to tell them every detail of my machine right afterward. Shouldn't they know that?

Apple is planning to launch a Mac trade-in program at its retail stores in the United States and Canada next week, reports Bloomberg.

The new program, which kicks off on June 15 in the United States and June 18 in Canada, will allow customers to exchange a Mac for credit that can be put on a gift card or used to cut the cost of a new computer.

Apple has long allowed Mac trade-ins on its website, but has not accepted Mac trade-ins in its retail store locations. The new Mac trade-in option will join in-store trade-in programs for the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.

According to Bloomberg, Apple may be introducing the program as a way to boost Mac sales by providing customers with an easier way to get a credit for an old machine. With the new trade-in program, customers will no longer need to hassle with doing a trade-in by mail, and can get an immediate credit when making an in-store purchase.

Phobio offering $440 for my early 2015 upgraded MBP. Wish I knew this was going to happen. Now I just get credit for future Apple purchases.

The money Apple gives you for your computer is ridiculous low. You might sell it for twice the price online.

Rather than do a trade in program that very few people will use, how about making new computers more affordable??
And not rip-off customers with also obscene upgrade RAM and SSD prices...?

All of these conveniences to get a new Mac - in store trade-in, 0% financing - are we in for another shock like the day iPhones were announced to cost >$1000?

Apple please remember there is a pandemic and the economy has entered a recession.
