Why do people keep dreaming up an iPad mini Pro without talking about how much they're willing to pay for it? As a proud owner of the A15-based iPad mini 6 that I bought last year for $399 at BestBuy, I have no interest in a minor spec bump or anything that will raise significantly raise the price. People who clamor for an iPad mini Pro should know by now that is not a large enough market to warrant producing that specific product. It's a niche of a niche.

It is weird that you have to go to Android and a foldable to get a premium tablet in this size, Apple brands themselves as selling premium products but for this size they for some reason only have something cheap with a terrible wish.com screen that is surpassed even by the cheap iPad 10. Filling out the Pro lineup with a mini sized tablet would solve that, hell they might even sell more of it once it is on actual Apple levels.

I think Apple will give the iPad mini 7 a faster chip & fix the jelly roll issue that plagued the mini 6. Other than that i dunno. I would love a promotion display & face ID. 😀 That’d be nice but unlikely. A 500gb max storage option would be cool too as I travel a lot & like to edit photos & 4k video while on the road.
How will they fix it? All the iPads exhibit jelly scroll to various degrees. It's shows less with the Pro models due to the 120hz display masking it (I still see it), so unless Apple adds Promotion to the Mini 7 - jelly scroll will remain.

They can make the effect much less depending on where they place the display controller, they changed the location when going from the Mini 5 to the Mini 6 which meant the scanout become slower than before. And that is one reason is why the Mini 6 has much more noticable jelly scrolling than Apples other (and previous) 60 Hz screens.

Blurbusters have a nice thread about why the Mini 6 has it worse than then Mini 5. https://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?t=9171

Um… I’ve never seen any signs of jelly scroll on my iPad mini 5 or my 11” ipad pro. But i do see it on my friends ipad mini 6. So i don’t know what you’re talking about. I am sure Apple is well aware of the issue with the mini 6 and will address it in the mini 7.

Is it slower? It just favours landscape scrolling over the older portrait orientation that was on Mini 5 as they turned the controller.

I see Jelly Scroll on the 12.9 Pro when viewing this forum and the scrolling slows for example as there are a lot of straight lines on the screen at once. Jelly is here to stay!

After using the Mini 6 I now see jelly scroll on all of Apples devices 🤷‍♂️. I can see it on my iPhone 11 when in landscape viewing this thread right now. The Mini 6 is by far the worst. I will admit I never noticed before the Mini 6 but I can't unsee it as my gaze unfocuses when scrolling and it's very noticeable to me.

Yes it is slower if it happens across a shorter distance, read the link. No matter the orientation you are holding it the scanout will be slower with this hardware change which gives us more noticable jelly scrolling.

Apple could be preparing to release a seventh-generation iPad mini before the end of the year, based on a new report by DigiTimes.

In an article discussing stagnating global tablet demand in the second half of 2023, the Taiwan-based outlet forecasts an uptick in Apple's share of the market owing to orders for a "small-size" iPad in the fourth quarter. From the report (see bold): DigiTimes obtains its information from the suppliers who manufacture parts for iPhones and other Apple products. Its sources often provide reliable information, but the site has a mixed track record when it comes to interpreting that information and accurately deciphering Apple's plans. It is often best to view information from the site with some skepticism until the info is corroborated by additional sources, especially when it comes to rumors.

That said, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman earlier this year reported that an iPad mini update with a minor "spec bump" is not out of the question. Last month, the leaker known as "ShrimpApplePro" also suggested a seventh-generation iPad mini was in the works at Apple, and said that they had seen evidence that at least one new iPad model is coming this year.

However, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in January said he believes that the seventh-generation ‌iPad mini‌ is most likely to begin mass production in the first quarter of 2024, and Kuo recently said he does not expect any new iPad models this year.

If anything happens before the holidays, a chip upgrade may be the most likely feature of a new ‌iPad mini‌. The ‌sixth-generation iPad mini‌ currently contains the A15 Bionic chip, while the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro use the A16 and A17 Pro chip, respectively. A minor spec bump could also include upgrades to the front and rear cameras, potentially bringing features like Photonic Engine to the ‌iPad‌ for the first time.

The latest iPad Pro models brought connectivity upgrades like Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 to the ‌iPad‌ for the first time, so it seems highly likely that these capabilities will also make their way to the ‌iPad mini in the next update‌.

I would love for Apple to make a proper iPad mini. The dream spec list would be:

- Better screen with thinner bezels ( oled? miniLed? )
- ProMotion display
- M series chip with support for external monitor and stage manager
- Folio cover in Alpine Green

I feel like a device like this would be fantastic for productive users who are often on the move and want something small and reliable.

I would personally pair it with a magic keyboard and a bluetooth mouse for a portable setup.

I also do realize that the idea of the ProMotion display is something reserved for the iPad Pro lineup so I don't have too much hope for it to get released with the specs above.
