Face ID or no upgrade from a 6th gen.

I loath Touch ID vs. Face ID. Of course both would be good, but in this day and age, a relatively expensive iPad should just come with the best, quickest, simplest to use ID version. Period.

Not doing so for yet another version is Apple basically taking the p¡ss out of its customer base.

Truly one of the worst products Apple has released in the past decade. My work sent me one to test our software on and it's simply unusable with the jelly scroll. I hate it. I used it probably 5 times and didn't touch it again.

Wishlist for me to upgrade from Mini 5th Gen:

Better Display (6th Gen is bad)
Eliminate Jelly Scrolling
Updated Processor
128GB Base Storage

If the base storage starts at 64GB I’ll be upset but if the other 3 main issues are resolved it’ll be a Day 1 purchase for me.

I've never had an issue with the 64 GB on the mini 5 but I use it as a consumption device and just move stuff around on my Mac to the mini. I like the push model where I can just remove a few large things if I need to make space.

They’ll upgrade the processor to A16 and one other piece. Likely that piece will be a 120hz LCD display to eliminate the jelly scroll and that’s it.

They better not add the dynamic island!

Yay! Best news I’ve heard all week.

A bit out of proportion IMO. I use mine every day (it stands in for a cell phone (buds with mic))… can see the jelly but no big deal. For me, it is as essential as an iPhone for others. I’m quite pleased with it and hope to enjoy it until about iPad Mini 9 or 10. The leap to this 6 was from the 2, which was used the same way.

Expecting to see it in October. Will be good if it comes in bright colours.

The Mini 7 will be updated similar to the Air 6:

- Updated processor (A16 most likely, maybe A17 at a push)
- 6 GB RAM
- Different shade of the same colours
- Improved brightness (same LCD screen)
- Possibly 128 GB base storage
- Possibly the Pencil hover feature (although this maybe limited to the M2 chip)
- Possibly Face ID (but I doubt it)

That's probably it realistically. Definitely no Pro-motion display and no quad speakers.

Why don't you do some searches? I'm showing you a way to get what you want now, without the hefty Apple markup if they ever would build what you seek. There's probably a smaller one out there somewhere. Google can be your friend.

Else consider a MB and run iOS apps on the left and iPadOS apps on the right. Bonus: you'll have a whole Mac in there too. It can also be a buds + mic phone with a VOIP app.
I did some searches.

And the nearest I can see is something like a Samsung tablet. (E.g. Galaxy Tab A7 Lite at £119 from Samsung.) But not sure if it could work by them simply being close except when on the same network. Which would be the case at home (where I don't need it) but probably not when out and about!

Need to see what software/apps are available to let it behave as a second screen to IOS (not a mirror) - and be very quick and easy to use. Ideally, as simple as pressing the button on the Tab and the connection starts up immediately.

I have said it before and I will say it again: It would be awesome if Apple would add CarPlay support to the iPad mini.

Edited to add: Doing this would be a wonderful response to GM's announcement that they won't be adding CarPlay to their vehicles.

I think Apple will give the iPad mini 7 a faster chip & fix the jelly roll issue that plagued the mini 6. Other than that i dunno. I would love a promotion display & face ID. 😀 That’d be nice but unlikely. A 500gb max storage option would be cool too as I travel a lot & like to edit photos & 4k video while on the road.

I bought the iPad mini 6 after I'd already had a current generation iPad Pro 11". I thought it was super cute and that I would use it as an e-reader (I don't read books, whomp whomp) I don't use my Pro all that often except I keep it in my home office to use in place of my larger 15" Macbook Air doesn't really fit on my desk. I'm getting rid of the mini and not planning on replacing it.

Foldable or I'm out! I'm sure by then Apple will have ironed out the crease and other things that some have issue with and perfected the form factor. Some of the newer Chinese tablets have no crease, and folded are almost as thin and light as a regular iPhone. Change the form factor a bit to get as close to 3:2 as you can, and in Apple spirit take away any phone capability.

I have an 11” iPad Pro to create artwork on & to edit photos & videos with. I went with the 11” over the 12.9” because of hold-ability & portability. I like to travel a lot. After getting the iPad mini 5 tho, it has replaced my 11” ipad pro for when I want to travel light. It’s small size is even more portable yet i can still draw on it & edit photos & videos with it while on the road. I want to upgrade to the iPad mini 7 so I can use the apple pencil 2 and for other improvements. Then later next year I will finally upgrade my 2018 11” iPad Pro with a 12.9” M3 OLED ipad pro. I’ll use the 12.9” to create art with at home & the ipad mini 7 when traveling. Seems like a perfect combo.

Why do people keep dreaming up an iPad mini Pro without talking about how much they're willing to pay for it? As a proud owner of the A15-based iPad mini 6 that I bought last year for $399 at BestBuy, I have no interest in a minor spec bump or anything that will raise significantly raise the price. People who clamor for an iPad mini Pro should know by now that is not a large enough market to warrant producing that specific product. It's a niche of a niche.

I'm personally willing to pay the price of an iPad Air $599 which I think is fair. And with Apple's storage strategy I'll bite the bullet at $699. Which sort of mirrors the current iPad Pro pricing ($799 for the 11 and $1099 for the 12--all base prices).

That's assuming a hypothetical iPad Pro mini is just as capable as its older siblings.

But agreed it is a niche unfortunately so I don't see them doing it anytime soon. Might have to wait for the iPad mini just to improve over time.
