If the ultra brand is Apples way to justify a price increase. I will hang onto my m1 pro max untill they get a design refresh in 2028 if the rumours serve right.

This is great to hear, because I don't care about any of these features. I plan on buying a MBP in a few months and was concerned I'd have buyer's remorse in 2027. Looks like that won't be the case.

When will someone at Apple realise that laptop screens and phone screens are different and that you don't need to fight for every millimetre of bezel? Actually having some bezel on laptop is more ergonomic for eyes than not having it. Are we condemned to another ten years of awkward 'top notch' design? I hate this. It's a distraction and you can't get any decent software to work around it. I'll stick with my MacBook M1 until Apple designers stop this nonsense. They've probably lost a large chunk of the market made up of people who can't stand it.

I am yet to see a iPad as powerful and capable as a MacBook. Browsing on a MacBook is a LOT better experience over an iPad for example. Why are you so defensive of the iPad?
Any iPP or Air is significantly more powerful than the Macbook Neo. Capability is subjective.

Pezimak you have an iPP M4 right and you love it if i remember correctly from previous threads. You know its benefits.

If the keyboard folds all the way around, this could finally be the MacOS powered iPad people have been looking for.
I have a work-issued MS Surface Studio laptop with this capability (though it has a complex folding system rather than a 360° rotation).

The result is a combination of an unusably heavy tablet with a laptop whose screen occasionally articulates when opening.

The occasional usefulness of the touchscreen is outweighed by the incredibly annoying accidental touch input—like moving the insertion point—through brushing the screen with your knuckles.

It’s a classic toaster fridge. Please don’t do this, Apple.

The consensus against "thinner" on this forum shows how out of touch posters are with the real world. Also, saying that you cannot see how it could be designed to be thinner... I'm not sure how relevant that is.

The current design was a big step up in weight and volume from the prior gen. For those who travel with, carry in a backpack, etc., the current design, it's a real pain in the butt (or back).

An Air won't get the job done for me - I need the bigger, better screen & CPU for frequent local builds, testing, etc. I bet the same is true for many others.

I'd bet for a large portion of the real-world, frequent traveler, next-gen MBP thinness will be a big selling point. I'd also bet that this is a bigger segment than those who need longer battery life than it already provides.

The fact that they keep talking about thinness is a selling feature makes me think that part is a done deal. And, unlike a touch screen, it's not likely to be an optional feature.

I travel all the time and never had a problem with the 17" laptop of old or my current 16". If you can't hack it with a backpack then get a rolling case. Or go to the gym and get in shape.

All thinner is going to do is remove useful ports. We already don't have a native ethernet port (and those fold down ones on PCs suck) anymore which really is unfortunate. I wanted to punch someone at Apple when they briefly got rid of the MagSafe charging port; so I have to burn a USB-C port for charging, dumb mistake.

Did use to love my IPP, still use it however iPad OS has been grinding on me with it’s bugs and how clunky and limited it is, and so I have been using my MacBook Pro and naturally it stomps all over the iPad. So my mind is being change, may sell it and pick up this new Ultra MB if they do a 14” model. To me I am beginning to feel as though iPad OS is just a bit rubbish, not premium, the iPhone runs iOS much better, and then you have Mac OS which is so much more capable. And that does include the Neo by the way, I don’t see the iPad Pro running Cyberpunk…

But I am telling myself once the iPhone Fold is matured, has the features I want and a few iterations, I’ll pick one up refurb and it’ll be no more iPad for me.

Agreed!

I had an M4 Pro and ended up selling it for an M5 Air and since I'm in no way a power user, it's great. I didn't care for the weight of the Pro, at all, and really disliked the sharp vents on the side...The thickness didn't matter too much, but I do like how much thinner the Air is.

- No impact on the battery life (or temperature) of my iPhone.
- No need to keep my phone on the table (e.g. at a coffee shop) to get “good enough” signal.
- No need to connect and reconnect every time the connection drops, which seems to be pretty often (Wi-Fi is not the most reliable thing).

Oh and hopefully it would be faster too.

Ok, ignoring ad hominem assumptions, I appreciate your perspective, but I'd suggest that someone who:
- is willing to carry a 6.6lb laptop (the old 17" MBP weight)
- wants a physical eth port in a wifi world
represents a negligible, unrepresented market segment.

Also, this claim:
... All thinner is going to do is remove useful ports. ...
really seems to invoke my prior point that people are creating false dilemmas:
...saying that you cannot see how it could be designed to be thinner... I'm not sure how relevant that is. ...

I can live without touch, I barely used it when I briefly and regrettably switched to a Surfacebook but I would consider upgrading my Air if it gets fitted with an Oled screen in the future.

That would be an instant buy. Cellular on a Mac makes perfect sense but only since we reached 5G speeds, I guess optimized with the in house modem. I can see cellular coming to the next Neo, since it’s the perfect light mobile office machine (like for doctors).
We've had 5g since 2019. Lenovo had 5g laptops since then. That's not something that's just appeared. Mac is very very late to the party here. 6g will be out in 2-4 years depending on country.

No 'ultra' needed. Just replace the current 'pro' with a new design please. No touch screen needed either.

Remember when they were simplifying the product line? Now it’s all Max, Pro, Ultra, Supers. Yeesh. Some cool stuff
It still irritates me that Max is positioned before Ultra. Max stands for “Maximum”. Ultra should be a beefed up Pro with Max sitting at the top.
