Apple has a lot of products that are in need of refresh. I always thought Apple used to be a lil behind in updates compared to others, But this year in particular seemed even more so.

I have no clue why, but the Mac Mini and the iMac's haven't been refreshed in well over a year. In the Computer world, 1 year is already archaic tech to be selling.

I always believed Apple needed to decrease the refresh time fromn 1 year average on hardware refreshes, to 6 months, But for these particular products, Apple has extended it's length.

New iMac = Mac Mini + Cinema Display

I would frankly love it if Apple unifies iMac and Mac mini by offering 1 a-la-carte and 3 different bundled packages (and kill all-in-one design):
  1. Mac mini with entry-level iMac spec for $599, all the way to high-end iMac spec for $999.
  2. Add Keyboard and Magic Mouse/Magic Trackpad for $99 more.
  3. Add 21.5" Display, Keyboard, and Magic Mouse/Magic Trackpad for $500 more.
  4. Add 27" Display, Keyboard, and Magic Mouse/Magic Trackpad for $1000 more.

Ok, now this is beginning to sound like pre-WWDC rumors where basically we were getting a full line-up of updates (Mac Mini, iMac, Mac Pro, MacBooks). We all know how that ended up...

Ditto...just a thought tho, some of these products may not be announced until Jan as Apple had done that quite a few times.

Either way if the mini gets an update I'm hoping for an additional display port or thunderbolt port to allow it to do 3 screens (2 DP/Thunderbolt and 1 HDMI), effectively giving you an alternative to the rMBP if you only want a method of getting 3 displays up and running.

So is this integrated graphics card for the 13" rMBP going to be able to handle all those pixels when the 15" rMBP can often barely handle a few more with an excellent discreet graphics card? It's great that a 13" rMBP is going to be released but...

Along with the iPad mini I'd wait a year/generation when the iPad mini gets retina-fied and the 13" rMBP gets a better integrated graphics solution.

That would be cool...have it so you can "slot" the mini into the cinema display (iirc there were patent photos of this a few years back) turning it into a full blown iMac with more ports on the back of the display.

Who buys mac minis anymore? I dont see apple giving them much more than some spec bumps. I would think with the iPad out, Mac Mini sales have been steadily decreasing.

Ah, the Mac mini. What a nice little thing. It was one of the first Macs to get the Intel CPU's but was the last one to discontinue the "combo" drive.

If they update the minis and the Cinema Displays, I will choose the Mac mini + ACD combination over an iMac. It's just so cool-looking.

Not to throw water on the flames, but if an event was going to be held on the 23rd, shouldn't the invites have gone out today. I thought they usually go out 8 days ahead of time.

Usually 7 days out. So they should be out by tomorrow if indeed this is happening.
