I'm skeptical, but I really do want this to be true...

I'm pushing for a mini for our new conference room setup at work. It would be perfect for our needs as we want something that can sit inside one of the legs of the table and not need excessive ventilation. If this pans out, the timing would be absolutely perfect for my purchase.

*fingers crossed*

This will be my next media server. I switched to internet only services and canceled cable, satellite, telephone. What is needed is a 4 hour APU/UPS to power the modem, router, phone box, portable phone base and other low power devices. POTS phone works during power outages and that is a feature not a bug. I don't know if someone has already solved that in an elegant way, but Apple could certainly do it with a specialized device or an accessory to one of its boxes such as ATV, TM, or others.

BTW the monthly savings so far exceed $200. I just have to figure how to get untethered HBO. You know, without using someone else's code for HBOGO.

Rocketman
I'm just using a low-end APC UPS, 350 or 450vac. I dumped POTS for VOIP with an Ooma. DSL modem, router, phone, Ooma box only on the battery. Considering UPSs are rated for a PC setup, these 4 devices, esp if idle, will last quite some time on battery. Technically, our internet access still works with this setup, but I would stop the constant Netflix streaming to tablets to avoid drain in an actual outage. And, of course, we have cell phones.

How does your POTS work if you dumped phone service? Isn't that just 911 that might be available?

I basically dumped $95/month myself. I don't have an answer on HBO. Other than, you know...alternate means.

You mean the iTunes Music Store, yes? Because many, if not all, of these countries already have the iTunes Stores which are only limited to apps and such. At least, that's the case in Russia.

You are right, iTunes Store is already open but is limited to App Store, Books, Podcasts and iTunes U. Considering that Movies, Music and TV Shows are the real deal of the iTunes Store, I think we can just call it iTunes Store becoming available :)

Just give me my i7-3632qm (35W) with a GeForce GT640/650 and a 128GB SSD at any reasonable price point (below 1100, please!) and I'm a happy buyer!

Waited for this for half a year now and honestly, I need it right now as my 2009 MBP literally falls apart with my current FCP X project with currently about 12k clips in the timeline ...

Oi , send out the invitations already,
so many rumours,
no real pictures
Double Down:confused:
WE need to know and see the truth on the rumoured Date:p

if a mac mini, an ipad mini and a 13 inch retina macbook pro are launched and NOT a new iMac.... I will be very, very upset.

Im really p***ed off. Today got my first android phone ever. And also concidering just buy some cool lcd (for hell lot cheaper) instead of imac.
Is that only me, who feels not any valuable customer (apple user)? Or anyone else too?

Let's hope that the "better" model has both discrete graphics and a quad-core CPU.

+1. But also have a processor with some balls. 3 Ghz quad with hyperthreading and room for a second drive. If apple solders the memory or anything else to cripple it, I'll move on to a non apple product.

The only reason RAM is soldered into the MBPr is to save space, it's almost like an iPad with a keyboard built in.

But I agree, I hope Apple doesn't cripple the upgradeable of the rest of the computers, especially the desktop range. I'd rather go get a Mac Pro (desktop) than be forced to buy a Mac with soldered RAM and no free slots to add more later.

I had considered getting a mac-mini to make a standalone home theater PC (HTPC). But then I found that my current Macbook Pro (used for all types of home usage like photos, home movies, email and browsing) and AppleTV combo does the job just fine!

So I don't have a need for a mac mini.

The 2011 Mac mini had quite a fair bit of room left inside (install to install a 2nd drive). Methinks apple might opt to purge this extra space and introduce a thinner and lighter form factor as a selling point. We will also likely see upgraded ports, processors, internal specs, but nothing too groundbreaking otherwise.

Hopefully, apple will leave the ram upgradable, and the ssd option can still be had as an external thunderbolt connection.

I am not expecting a lot of surprise when the next mini drops. The base model is usually similar to the specs of the base model MBP 13. That will be an improvement that has waited too long. Way overdue Apple!

Finally!
I have been struggling with my current Mac "which isn't bad, but lacks great RAM & USB 3.0) for a long time!

What do you mean, lacks great RAM? The current Mac mini can take up to 16 GB (unofficially) or 8 GB of RAM (officially); that's quite sufficient for the purposes the mini is aimed at.

They have dropped the optical drive, so what will be missing this time?

My insiders tell me that they have decided to take out the CPU. Its just going to be art. $500 to look at a piece of metal.

Wait they are also going to be announcing the new Apple TV right?? I mean come on fit it in...

cue the people complaining that we're not getting a new iMac

Lately the way Apple has been acting, there's no way to know what's up, or if anything makes sense.

Perhaps at some point in the future they will reveal a more predictable side like they did years ago. But currently it's full out iDevice madness.
