No exemptions. Build your products in the US. An estimated 35% of all iPhone are sold in the US, so 35% of them should be manufactured in the US.
Enjoy not upgrading your smartphone for 17 years until manufacturing can ramp up. 😂

And then enjoy paying even more than you would for a tarriffed iphone, becuase the US can't make something that complicated for anything CLOSE to par cost as China. Even with the US's limited-option workforce it's trying hard to eliminate.

This is an ever changing situation but I’ve still advised more than one friend to upgrade now and not wait for the 17 just to be safe.

I'm not sure that's really necessary but whatever makes sense, sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't I guess.

How many Americans would be willing to pay a higher price for a US made iPhone?

We've been paying higher and higher prices for sweatshop Chinese made phones, so do we really have any choice in the matter besides don't buy them at all?

Not really, no. They--as others--are diversifying their trading alliances as we speak. We might see some near-term overtures to appease the petty Oval Office potentate, if only to buy sufficient time to boycott the capricious clown. entirely.
Good luck "boycotting" the United States economy.

You have the choice to vote out the Republicans at the next election and hope the Democrats can reverse some of these measures.

Otherwise Apple will be forced to sell at higher prices and lose market share to their competitors who are willing to accept a lower profit margin than 40%.

There are no easy solutions that I can see.

I am certain that whatever tariffs remain in place when Trump is out of office will not be touched by the next President, even if it is a Democrat. Biden didn't touch Trump's tariffs from his first term, after all.

Once Democrats move on to the "next thing" then nobody will remember the tariffs. It seems like forever ago that Selena Gomez was crying on Instagram about the border, doesn't it?

You’re probably right. This is the new reality. We are all just going to have to get used to paying more for things.

If China continues to retaliate, their economy will continue to crash all the more.

China has huge profit margins, huge stockpiles, huge reserves of pretty much every commodity. They’ve been preparing for this moment for years. It just so happens Trump made the first move (and wow, what a move it was). Anyway, Don’t expect China to come crawling, begging, or pleading to the White House any time soon.

See…..if there is a recession, prices will go down regardless. Because no one will be buying. 😂

Maybe ... during the 09 Recession, Apple didn't really cut prices. At the time Apple was poised as a luxury brand and not as affected by the recession. Today they're a discount cellphone company that occasionally sells premium computers, so they're probably not as recession proof as they were in '09.

By “diversifying their trading alliance” you mean with Russia and Iran

So... like... they are going to make them in China, and then ship them to a warehouse in India for a few hours and then ship them to the USA?
If that was the plan, presumably they'd chose a country like the UK with only a 10% tariff. Also if that were a viable workaround then this government would be even bigger idiots than they are.

They make them so cheap that tariffs don't really matter. But nobody is going to tell you that.

Everyone writing this FUD knows that tariffs are only levied on wholesale costs, not retail prices. But yet they write articles saying "iPhones will increase in price by 54% tomorrow! Buy now!"

And the most shocking thing is - even after all this time and all these proven lies, people still believe the media.

That of course would greatly increase the cost of iPhones. For most factories in the US you'd want to have them be competitive enough globally to get a decent market from outside the US. Selling only to the US market means failure for many businesses due to not having economy of scale needed. To be competitive means using every tool at your disposal which often means enlisting people from around the world to contribute to your product in some way.
