Not because the Biden economic policies flooded the economy with trillions in free money, huh?
As did Trump, in the amount of over $3 trillion (two stimulus packages). Don't forget that he wanted his signature on the stimulus checks. Both parties are guilty of getting us to where we are. By the way, I did not vote for either moron, Trump or Biden.

Are you sure? They will simply sell more stuff to other countries instead. They will take a hit but they are not a democracy so the CCP can do whatever they want.

China can just make up half a trillion in trade with the world's largest economy by selling more to who? Germany doesn't want half a trillion more Chinese trinkets. They have enough. Who are they going to sell to?

Everyone writing this FUD knows that tariffs are only levied on wholesale costs, not retail prices. But yet they write articles saying "iPhones will increase in price by 54% tomorrow! Buy now!"

And the most shocking thing is - even after all this time and all these proven lies, people still believe the media.
What are you talking about? At Costco, the price of 35 cans of Coca-Cola went up over $2 because of the aluminum tariffs paid by the company.

You have the choice to vote out the Republicans at the next election and hope the Democrats can reverse some of these measures.

Otherwise Apple will be forced to sell at higher prices and lose market share to their competitors who are willing to accept a lower profit margin than 40%.

There are no easy solutions that I can see.
Where do you think the overwhelming majority of smartphones are made in the world right now? This isn’t going to be ‘pay a higher price for an iPhone’, this will be pay a higher price for ANY phone. In the US, your smartphone (Google, Apple, OnePlus and Samsung) is likely made in China, or possibly Vietnam (upcoming 46% tariff). Even Samsung doesn’t make most of their phones in South Korea. ALL smartphone are going to be affected by changes in tariffs.

Some will insist the iPhone should be made in the US if sold in the US. That of course would permanently raise the price of iPhones even without tariffs. Some would insist that then prices should go up because it's so important to make them in the US. The only real reason for this would be more jobs but unemployment has been low and if all businesses did this then it's doubtful we'd have enough people to fill the jobs. And yet we'd be having most everything now more expensive for little real advantage. And if you say the iPhone must be assembled in the US then it follows that ALL components (camera sensors, processors, etc.) must be made in the US. This means no longer having certain companies specialize in certain things that get sold globally losing all the advantages of economy of scale. I want the US to do great but there needs to be logic and not just raw feelings guiding policy.

The tariffs are only levied on the wholesale cost of the good being imported. I didn't realize that was unclear, or secret, information.

Even a communist country needs a functioning economy.
True but they don’t have to win elections and the people are not allowed to complain if prices go up or their living standards go down.

President Xi has bankrupted companies and industries he doesn’t like so he certainly won’t pander to Trump.

China also allowed tens of millions of their own people to starve to death not even 70 years ago.

Probably the same for the US. And for the world — this tariff situation is a lose-lose for everyone. That’s what’s so dumb.
It’ll be much worse for us. China also holds some of our debt, which Trump seems to ignore. If China calls on our debt, expect pure chaos because we do not have the funds to pay it off. No amount of tariffs or service cuts will cover that. A tax increase is needed for that.

He’s doing these shenanigans just so his sweetheart tax cut for the rich will not be as revenue-negative as it would be on its own. All one has to do is look at his 2017 giveaway to the rich and see what that did to budgets.

Given how many iPhones Apple sells and their price, I'd not be surprised if Apple's imports materially affect the trade balance with India. So fast forward three months:

"Let me tell you, folks, I've been working hard —very hard— on a deal with India. We’ve been negotiating, trying to make it fair for America— but despite all that the trade deficit with India has increased and it's a real problem. I've just received the newest numbers. And we’re talking about big numbers, bigger than ever before. India’s taking advantage of us over the last three months, and it’s not right. We’ve got to stand up for America, and we’ll make sure we get a much better deal, believe me!"

👉 Slaps another double-digit percentage points of tariffs on India 🤡

That’s true but there are a lot of cheaper Android phones available that suddenly become more attractive if the iPhone price rise too much. Also we don’t if someone like Samsung would be willing to accept lower margins to keep their phones competitively priced.

Part of me has this desire of schadenfreude so the electorate suddenly gets so tired of this they throw out the incumbents during the midterms and override Trump’s veto on tariff power.
