Of course nothing has changed. You have to wait for Australian Anti-trust (or anti competition commission) to take action. Obviously, they will not have taken that action between my two posts. It is easy to obtain the same information by Googling or searching for ABC news in the YouTube. :)
Yes and like I said ACCC has been pretty logical in their decision so would be surprised if they take a stupid action like EU

Well, they have a bill. It means they are contemplating getting it in place at some point. It is just a matter of time. It also means that they acknowledge something is wrong with apple's business practices currently.

Where is the bill? Can you share when and where was it lodged

I gave you the article earlier. Giving it again. This is what is coming ahead in 2024.

1. Ex Ante Digital Platform Regulation: The Government announced its in principle support of the ACCC’s recommendations to introduce digital platform consumer measures (see 2, 4 & 5 below) and mandatory service-specific codes for designated digital platforms containing targeted competition obligations. Treasury will work on framework design, informed by further consultation and international developments.

Also, another law to regulate digital payment services. It is coming.

Is the EU market that large to even justify complying with its communistic demands.... Apple should pull out of the EU

Why is our government even allowing all this bullying?
448 million people (compared to US 331 million). So yes, it’s a huge market.

About your second question: Because you have a non functioning government that cannot agree on anything? And one of your two parties has completely lost the plot?

But, I wouldn’t call it bullying. In Europe we have different values, so it’s only normal these are enforced on all companies, even the ones from the US.

That wasnt a bill.

If its a bill it would be listed here (The official site for current bills)

I wouldnt count vague articles as bills

Regarding the Financial thing I am 100% against the banks the big 4 just want their control over it and as consumers no one I know has said its bad. I hate installing different banking apps for payments and if you look at the stats Apple pay has rocketed in terms of usage

I said it is coming in 2024, which the article supports. If you want the actual bill, you would have to open a browser, type the words "Australian Draft Bill text....." :) That is how everyone does.

So we are down from “they have a bill” to coming soon. Then again these vague articles don’t have anything concrete until something is presented to the parliament. For all I care they can say iron man is real until then.
We don’t have any big software companies anyways so again would be very surprised!

I have been saying coming soon right from my first post. Please go back and check.

Your reply and the post you are responding to both make my political compass explode. Voters and politicians of both American parties regularly support "European" values like app sideloading and the right to repair.

I've wanted to download and install random IPAs ever since Apple took down that drone strike app. The consumers who would most immediately benefit from this feature in the US are users of deplatformed apps like Gab.ai. I find it really hard to see this as either a communist or a European thing. Unlike the Chinese government, the EU is making it harder for itself(!) to censor things by pushing for app sideloading.

(Unfortunately, our social media laws are another story. :()

These are your words
These are my exact words. It says the bill is not in place yet, which means it is a draft. Looks like it will be in 2024.

Firstly a draft is not a bill. We don’t know what the details are so again vague articles and just speculations. There is nothing wrong in Apple business practice!
If Australian government is was ever concerned about those we have mining sector to start with. So in essence nothing concrete, not a bill and speculations

A draft is exactly that, a bill. Once it is approved, it becomes an Act.

I think I should stop now :)

A draft is not a bill!
If it was the bill it would be on the official bill list which clearly doesn’t have this!
Looks like you do not want to read. I literally gave you an attachment which gives the definition/difference between a bill and act and you want to go with your own definition without any source to back it up. Good job.

You said it was a bill. I gave you the official link to the Australian Government's bill page and then you flipped your narrative to oh its a draft which is again vague detail. Where is the exact change simple question!!
The only thing is that oh there is some recommendation

Well, are you saying there is no draft bill that is Australia is bringing up against Apple/Big Tech? According to you Australia will let Apple go scot-free? Let us see then, at the end of 2024, who is right.

PS: Can you give the official link again? I cannot go to your previous posts as MR is not letting me see them.

I know but the barriers to entry in the market are super high. You need to be one of the most valuable companies in the world to compete. The market doesnt allow small players to come in and innovate because they dont have the structure and the capacity to compete. Apple and Google control the whole market except for China. Not many choices if you aren't happy with one or either of those two and nobody's accountable for anything. That's why i'm glad that the EU is at least beginning to make these companies accountable wether it's about data privacy or whatever else.
How does screwing with Apple’s business
model of easy to use digital appliances (NOT A PC) allow a 3rd party to spring forth from the ashes of the EU tech sector?

if you want “open” go Android. So easy.

If you're referring to android being laggy, you're wrong. Currently on an S24Ultra and its snappier than my 13pro and about the same as my inlaws' 15pros. Importing data into Android is incredibly easy. There are a ton of apps to assist with the process for whatever type of data you want to bring in. What's nearly impossible (or would be, if you're not a tech person), is getting data OUT of iOS in a somewhat efficient way. Getting my 200gb of photos onto my Windows machines involved creating an NTFS link because iCloud for Windows is a piece of trash and doesn't allow you to change the photo storage directory.
Then it sounds like Android has you covered, champ!

There are no others in this scenario. And it's not hate nor BS here. Trillion dollar companies will always be beasts that we have to try and tame before they get too powerful for our own good. Apple has never been anyone's friend. They just want your money, it's just that, in this case, the EU is acting in the name of the customers here. We definitely need more competition. Being able to use different browser engines is cool too. This means I'll be able to easily deploy an alternative browser in my company in the rare case that a zero-day Safari vulnerability is found and Apple takes a while to patch (which can happen, and has happened before). Or even better, since Safari doesn't support the integrations we need, we'll be able to get rid of it as it doesn't fit our needs.
Enjoy the battery suck on your 3rd party browser engines. Have you seen Chrome on MacOS? 😂

It's funny how some people will defend one rule in some areas, but would not accept the same rule in others.

Apple make the iPhone, so it makes the rules, and if you don't like it, then make your own phone and leave Apple alone for those who like it that way.

Ok then.......

So, I make a White only park area, no blacks allowed, its my park, I used my money to make it, I make the rules, if the black people don't like it, then they can make their own park area, leave me and my white folks alone.

We see this as unacceptable.....

So, I make a male only park area, no women allowed, its my park, I used my money to make it, I make the rules, if the woman don't like it, then they can make their own park area, leave me and my male folks alone.

We see this as unacceptable.....

Why can't some people understand, that saying it's my park I made so I make all the rules, and if you don't like it, then make your own park "IS" seen as unacceptable.

Yet they use exactly the same logic to defend Apple constantly?
Umm…that went to a really weird place, man. 😳

Apple has put a crapload of work into iOS WebKit to make it feel seamless with touch.

Do you think the 3rd party engines are ready for it?

Should be interesting 😉
